Cardinal: God Spell

Chapter 10: Interstellar Elite Squads (P2)- The Sage's furious display

"So this is how you evaded Brother Long's technique, to think you would shamelessly suggest evaluating Lightning mages with such a card", Piso spat out angrily. "If you have a problem boy you're more than welcome to punish me yourself", Hei-Jin responded in complete indifference despite both of his hands still shaking from the force of Piso's spell.

"If not shut the hell up and move along, We never said you had a fair shot at beating me at any point nor should you expect something so soft or tepid as a mage... If you don't understand at least this much then you have no place learning under me", the instructor responded without a care, in his eyes his ability made him the best possible evaluator of lightning mages and soft-hearted wimps like this punk should just pack it up and get a move on.

Piso was about to respond before Sora stopped him by placing a hand on his shoulder, Piso turned to curse him out but stopped when he saw the disgusted glare on Sora's face, "I'll take you up on that offer shitty old man", Sora said with a calm smile on his face, the glare in his eyes betrayed his attempt to look like a student calmly taking up a teachers bet.

"Oh??", Hei-Jin looked at Sora with a mocking grin wondering what this kid thought he was going to do, "How does a weak little fire mage like you think he can contribute to our little scat, I'd bet you wouldn't even be able to dent the surface of my wings", Hei-Jin mocked with a bold-faced laugh. Takada watched the proceedings with a frown as he knew things would turn out this way with a guy like Hei-Jin handling the display, still, as a new member of the Elite squad leaders he could exactly start a fight with someone who's been on the board of leaders for a decade till date regardless of how much more talented he was.

"So you're saying if I can take a scale off of your armor you'll accept my challenge right??", Sora asked in a dark tone. Hei-Jin simply laughed like he had heard the world's funniest Joke, "Sure brat If manage to even singe My armor I will acce-", Before Hei-Jin even finished his agreement A loud bang was heard, and a spear-shaped purple bolt of lightning tore through the sky and obliterated Hei-Jin's entire left wing leaving nothing but the stump.

The Instructor's face froze as he looked at his now destroyed wing before a wave of spiritual pressure crushed him making him drop to both knees and puke blood while blood leaked from both eyes, both ears, both nostrils, and his mouth. He wore a pained expression as his vision hazed over and his his body trembled violently. "Are you satisfied or would you like me to take another fucking shot??", Sora asked with a cold glare on his face as he slowly walked up to the downed Hei-Jin.

Sora's spell worked for 2 reasons, the fact that he channeled his spark bolt through his finger to maximize the power and the fact that even though Hei-Jin was an advanced Mage his armor was a basic spell making it weaker than it would have been, had he been using the advanced soul element spell it may not necessarily have broken the way it did. "You fucking little shit", Hei-Jin managed to squeeze out while glaring hatefully at the slowly approaching Sora.

"I asked you a question teach, Are you satisfied with my display or do you need me to fry your head off next??", Sora asked with a provocative glare as he approached with unrushed impactful steps, Purple bolts of electricity danced at his feet with each step. By the time Sora stood before Hei-Jin, he had a complete spark bolt formed at the centre of his palm was an indifferent glare on his face. "Answer me scumbag", Sora demanded with his arm tensed and ready to fire at any given moment.

"Alright you fucking brat", Hei-Jin said as he spat a mouthful of blood and wiped the blood off of his face, "You want to prove something for these arrogant nothings in the lightning school go right ahead... but I'll have you know that whatever you thought your little display would achieve isn't going to go according to plan", He finished as he suddenly cast the final stage of the Intermediate Ice spell, Perfect Sub Zero, on the ground around him.

Instead of Ice covering the ground and spreading out to consume those in its range, the very ground itself was frozen solid for at least 10 feet. This effect then spread to Sora's feet. Before it could make it far though Sora kept his spell aimed at Hei-Jin's head and fired at point-blank range. Before anything could happen though, Takada quickly emerged from Sora's shadow with wings made of wind on his back and flew him out of Hei-Jin's spell range, simultaneously, multiple sturdy vines wrapped around Hei-Jin's form to block the regiments of Sora's lightning spell.

Firstly Takada cast the first stage of the shadow elements basic spell, lesser shadow hop; while moving towards Yuga, he then cast the 5th stage of the wind elements advanced spell, perfect wind wings to fly off with Yuga, he would have tried to blast Hei-Jin away as well but ultimately decided not to since, firstly, he didn't really like the guy all that much and ultimately he could sense Sister Ruth casting the 5th stage of the plant elements advanced spell perfect vineyard prison.

Now, usually, this spell comes in three parts, the vines wrap up the target trapping them in a prison wound tighter than most steel traps could ever grip animals, it would then stab the target with numerous poisonous thorns inside the trap, and lastly, it would tighten until the caster stopped the spell, otherwise, it would keep secreting poison and tightening until the caster ran out of mana and the spell collapsed.

What Sister Ruth had done was essentially use excess mana to forcefully keep the spell at the first part to protect Hei-Jin rather than harm him, this was especially effective since plant magic was equally immune to lightning magic, at least it was in this case. Not only was it a Basic spell up against an advanced spell, but Sora didn't focus the spell on his finger this time and made an active effort to reduce the power of his spell to a simple stun that would break Hei-Jin's control over his Ice spell and end the spell before it ever reached him, otherwise Sister Ruth's counter might not have been so effective.

"Mind explaining what that was Kiddo??", Takada demanded from Sora when they were out of earshot of everyone else, to be safe he also cast the 5th stage of the psychic elements intermediate spell, Perfect basic illusion to distort the sound around them so nothing would make sense to anybody but the two of them. "I'm pretty sure you know exactly why I did that Mr. Takada", Sora said without once removing his eyes from the Vine prison 'protecting' Hei-Jin.

"I mean revealing your double-awakened elements", Takada corrected as it was clear Sora had mistaken this for a chastising, "Here's what you're going to do now, I'm sure by now you've noticed the ring I slipped on your finger on the way up here, that is classified as booster magical equipment; they come in different types and qualities but this particular one grants a user access to an extra element... you're going to hand it to me when we get back down and I am going to pretend to scold you for misusing an Item I gave you in confidence for your protection ", Takada ordered without caring for any rebuttals or quips.

"Why are you helping me, Mr. Takada??", Sora asked he couldn't make heads or tails of it, "Call it an investment, I want you to grow out to your full potential as a mage so I have bragging rights as your teacher in the future... I won't have those bragging rights if a meaningless squabble like this limits your future or potentially harms your cultivation when it's s tender", Takada explained honestly, besides taking an interest Takada himself didn't know why he was going so far either.

Takada then dropped his illusion and flew down to the ground pretending to scold Sora mercilessly as he did making sure to seize the ring equipment only after Hei-Jin had escaped the Vine prison by his own means so the tyrannical instructor would eventually learn the truth. While the Idea crossed both of their minds that none of the instructors might buy this nonsense, they only needed a consistent story to tell the higher-ups on the odd chance this squabble became a bigger thing and needed higher-ups to settle.

Once they were done and Takada walked off Sister Ruth came in to mediate and it was decided that an official duel would be held between the Hei-Jin and Sora in 3 years to determine Sora's graduation from the Elite class and that the details would be discussed in a series of future meetings. Until then the matter was to be dropped and the display was to be concluded; Hei-Jin left and the other Instructors took note of Sora, all for different reasons, In the end, Sora left with Piso to help Longwei recover until it would eventually be his turn to partake in the fire element display later on.
