Chapter 5: Shut Your Mouth!
On the lawn, there were about twenty or thirty people standing in several rows.
"We'll begin now. The first test," the training officer announced loudly.
Everyone nodded and started lying down to do push-ups, supervised by several assistants. The training officer looked at Ye Chen and the others, and his indifferent expression instantly disappeared, replaced with shock.
Ye Chen and the other five moved their arms at incredible speed, while others could only do one push-up, they had already done three.
58 seconds later
"Finished!" Ye Chen pressed his fingers against the ground, pushed himself up, and stood up.
Bai Long and the others also finished.
A three-minute task was completed in just one minute.
Everyone around stared in astonishment at Ye Chen and the other five. In one minute, they had only done 40 push-ups, and their arms were sore, slowing down. For those with weaker physiques, just completing the task in three minutes was already a challenge.
As the people around them stared in disbelief, Ye Chen and the others remained calm. Even Bai Long, who usually liked to show off, had a hint of helplessness on his face. If they hadn't used only one percent of their strength, their speed could have been even faster!
"Next, the second test!" the training officer said, looking at Ye Chen and the others. "You can proceed."
Ye Chen lay on the ground, the soft grass cushioning his back, and the others followed suit, beginning sit-ups.
One minute later
"Done!"
Everyone now knew that they weren't ordinary people and didn't express much surprise. The three tests were quickly completed. The training officer handed five cards to Ye Chen and said, "These are your certificates. They cannot be duplicated. Each of you gets one. When you reach the military base, you'll exchange it for your uniforms."
Ye Chen nodded, took the cards, and distributed them to Bai Long and the others.
At this point, a young man, seemingly an assistant to the training officer, approached Ye Chen and his group and smiled. "Please follow me; I'll take you to the military base."
Ye Chen didn't ask any questions and followed.
They walked out of the sports field and onto the street, where an off-road Hummer was parked. The license plate was different from the usual—on the front, it read "HX," and on the back, it had the character "军," followed by the rest of the license number.
"HX" was the abbreviation for the national base city, derived from the first two letters of "Hua Xia," while "军" indicated a military vehicle!
The group got in, with two people in the front and four squeezed into the back.
The engine roared to life, and the Hummer sped away. Despite the apocalypse, cars and gas stations were still common—just take some from the abandoned ones, and you were good to go.
The scenery flew by on both sides, and not long after, the car arrived at the entrance of a residential area. The sign above the gate read, "No. 108 Military Camp." Two men in camouflage stood outside the gate, their muscular bodies and holstered pistols evident. When they saw the car, they walked over, stopping it.
"Hello, please show your documents!" one of the young men said with a gentle tone.
The driver reached into his pocket, pulled out an ID badge, showed it briefly, and then tucked it away. The young man stepped aside and allowed the car to proceed.
The vehicle stopped just a short distance from the gate.
The group got out of the car and followed the young man into a building. They arrived in front of an office, knocked on the door, and entered. Inside, about seven or eight people were seated at desks, working. Upon seeing the young man, a woman with black hair, fair skin, and a cold expression looked up.
"Please come in," she said flatly.
The young man walked in and pointed to Ye Chen and the others. "These are the new soldiers. Please take care of them. I'll be going now."
The woman nodded slightly.
The young man turned to Ye Chen and his group, smiled, and left.
"Hand over your interview cards," the woman said coldly after the young man left.
Ye Chen casually tossed his interview card, which landed accurately beside her. The woman frowned but didn't say anything. She picked up the card, glanced at it, and her expression froze.
"You're Ye Chen?" the woman asked, her gaze focused on Ye Chen.
Ye Chen replied indifferently, "It's written clearly on the card."
The woman gave a cold laugh. "So it's you." She then pressed a button on the phone. After the call connected, she said quickly, "Captain Zhang, there's something here. Please bring a squad over."
"Alright, no problem."
"Thank you." The woman hung up and looked back at Ye Chen and his group with a sneer. "I suggest you surrender. You're nothing but trash!"
"Trash?" Ye Chen was confused, and Bai Long and the others also wore puzzled expressions. But after hearing the woman's phone call, they immediately realized trouble was brewing.
"What do you mean?" Ye Chen stared at her coldly.
The woman glanced at him disdainfully and sneered, "Don't you know the disgusting things you've done? Hmph, do you want me to spell it out for you? You heartless bastard, you even targeted children. People like you should have been wiped out long ago! You thought you could get away with it, but Commander Li saw everything you did. You're done for."
Zhuge Fan immediately spoke up, "We didn't do any of those things. You're wrongfully accusing us!"
The woman glanced at him with a trace of disgust. "Lying at such a young age. You know your death is near, so of course, you try to plead innocence. If you had known this would happen, why did you act in the first place?"
"You piece of shit!" Yue Heng shouted angrily, clenching his fists. If not for the fact that the other party was a woman, he might have slapped her across the face by now.
"How dare you be disrespectful?" The woman noticed Yue Heng's expression and her eyes turned cold. She shouted.
"Shut up!" Ye Chen shot her a glance, his icy gaze more like he was looking at a corpse, void of emotion. The woman momentarily froze, feeling a surge of humiliation from being threatened. She fumed, "Who do you think you are to—"
Slap!
A sharp slap echoed through the room. The woman's exquisite face swelled immediately, a bright red handprint appearing. Ye Chen stood in front of her, his cold gaze unwavering.
"Keep talking, and I'll tear your mouth apart!" Ye Chen said calmly.
The woman stared at him, her cheek burning with pain. For a moment, she was stunned.
A man dared to hit her, especially such a handsome man. No one had ever been this ruthless with her before!
"You dare hit me?" The woman bit her lip, her eyes filled with venom. "You will regret this."
"Regret?" Ye Chen raised an eyebrow, a cold light flashing in his eyes. "I do regret it—regret that I didn't punish you harder!"
Thud!
With a sickening crunch, the woman's head flew off her neck. Blood erupted from the stump, and her severed head landed on the floor, still wearing an expression of shock and disbelief.
She hadn't expected that this man would actually kill her!
This was a military camp!
He had killed someone, not only inside the city base but also within the military camp!!
The remaining people in the office were stunned, then quickly backed away in fear, afraid to get close to Ye Chen, this devil.
"Such a lack of humanity. Just for speaking a few words, you kill someone!!"
"He's a demon!"
"Someone like him should be arrested and dealt with properly!!"
The others murmured among themselves.
Bai Long and the others were equally stunned. They hadn't expected Ye Chen to act so decisively, killing someone the moment things didn't go his way.
"Isn't this a bit too much? After all, this is a military base..." Zhuge Fan whispered.
Ye Chen waved his hand nonchalantly. "No worries. If they don't want me here, there are plenty of other places that will take me in."
Since someone was secretly plotting against him here, staying longer would only bring more trouble. Might as well end things cleanly.
The slap he had given her earlier was a warning!
But her gaze, filled with hatred, had awakened Ye Chen's desire to kill. Anyone who harbored malice toward him wouldn't be spared.
Whether they were old, young, or women—anyone who posed a threat would be eliminated without hesitation.
Killing people?
Cold-blooded?
Ye Chen never considered himself a kind person. He simply wanted to protect himself and the important people around him, even if he had to be called a demon for it.
"Clack-clack..."
At this moment, the sound of rapid footsteps echoed down the hall, and from the sounds, about twenty people were approaching. He could also hear the distinct sound of handguns being cocked.
"They're coming?" Ye Chen's eyes narrowed slightly.
