Chapter 3: Recruit
Stepping into the driveway he saw Sarah already in the driver's seat of his black suburban government-issued vehicle.
Perks of being a big boss in the green zone.
She was his driver as well as his bodyguard. As for leaving Maddie alone in his house, he didn't have anything in there that he cared about. Even if his entire mansion burnt down if he asked for a new one they wouldn't dare so no.
Opening the passenger door he hopped into the car before nodding at Sarah who drove toward the green zone exit that was guarded by red hats 24/7.
Coming up on the green zone check point Sarah rolled down the window as one of the red hats came up to inspect.
"You're free to g,o sir." The redhat who was used to seeing John let him through after a quick glance.
It was always easier leaving the green zone than it was entering.
John nodded at the respectful redhat before Sarah rolled up the window and drove through the checkpoint and toward the LA bloc.
After only a small drive they arrived within the LA bloc which was vastly different from the clean and orderly green zone.
The LA bloc was full of posters and occupation propaganda while the faces of the passing pedestrians were full of anxiety and hidden anger.
Just getting a proper meal here was hard with an egg being considered a luxury food.
"Where to sir," Sarah said while scanning the entire road for any dangers and keeping an eye on all passing drones.
She hated drones.
"Bowman's house. Drive by normally, nothing suspicious." John said while looking outside the window and at the new LA.
He didn't want to alert Will to his plans until he was ready to tell him. Will was an astute man, just driving by his house slowly would probably warrant his suspicion.
"Yes sir," Sarah said while heading in the direction of the Bowman household, information that had automatically been relayed by Cortana.
"Didn't I already tell you there was no need to call me sir?" John chuckled while asking Sarah.
"Yes sir. One hundred and ten times now." Sarah said with a small smirk that she quickly hid from John who sighed.
"We're coming up on the house. It seems something happened.
John glanced at the house that was surrounded by cars along with a firetruck. Looking closely he spotted Will with his wife and a few others.
"Perfect. It seems I got the day right." John mumbled while seeing the fireman leave Will's house.
It was the day Katie had set her own house on fire for the resistance.
Not that it was much of a resistance anyway.
"We can go home now."
-----------------------------------------
He spent the rest of the day with Maddie and Sarah sorting out art pieces and artifacts. They had a nice steak dinner with wine and a few desserts that Sarah had cooked up.
"I had an amazing time John, thank you," Maddie said while Sarah took their dishes to the kitchen.
"Just rewarding you for your hard work today." John smiled
"It wasn't much... I was hoping you'd be okay with me coming tomorrow as well." Maddie said with a small smile.
It seemed she was trying to get close to someone in the green zone. Who better than a young boss with plenty of sway?
"Ah speaking of that. I already put in a word, you're officially hired to work for me full-time now. I hope you're okay with that." John said with small embarrassment at not telling her sooner.
Of course all part of his act. How could he let such a beauty fall into the hands of that dirty scum Nolan?
"Thank you so much, John!" Maddie stood up in excitement her dress clinging to her fit body.
John stood up and stepped closer to Maddie making her look down with a small blush.
John was extremely handsome and with his fit body, it was hard not to blush when he stared into your eyes.
"Having you around will certainly light the place up, but enough of that I have some important business tonight, Sarah will drive you home," John said while putting his hand on the lower back of Maddie who nodded.
"You have a good night John, see you tomorrow." Maddie smiled and waved before walking outside to where Sarah was already waiting in the car.
"Goodnight," John said while constantly having Cortana feed him live information on cameras he had placed within the green zone.
"Broussard seems to be on the move John. You have forty-five minutes." Cortana said with a light and feminine voice that made him feel comfortable.
'Should be plenty of time.' John said to Cortana without speaking aloud.
'Are the other cars ready to drop off the new recruits?'
'Already nearby and ready to deliver the new recruits to cabin number one.' Cortana confirmed.
John stepped back inside his house before activating his suits stealth mode which made him go invisible before stepping back outside and looking at a distant house on a hill a few miles away.
A second later he was moving at insane speeds of over sixty miles per hour and he wasn't even pushing his body.
Swoosh!
He flew through the air jumping hundreds of feet from one roof to the next not making a single noise as every muscle in his body was under his perfect control.
His reflexes made everything look as if everything was happening at a slow pace despite having traveled miles within a few seconds.
Stopping outside a large mansion house he spotted an older woman entering her home and heard her whispering a few words to who he assumed was her dying husband.
He knew this woman was Phyllis the current head of the task force working on catching Geronimo.
Also, the woman who would have died just now if it wasn't for Cortana intentionally slowing down Broussard who should have been waiting in her house ready to kill her and her husband.
John jumped onto her second-story balcony.
"Alarm is disarmed," Cortana said before John opened the sliding glass door and entered the house.
Walking toward the living room he took a seat on the comfortable leather white couch in the dark.
