Chapter 6: Fall of Bogo Fortress (2)
The Iron Fortress of Bogo, located on the most remote and only floating island in all of the Eastern Dolly Waters, houses some of the Clan's greatest traitors, criminals and pirates. It is known for its gruelling conditions and harsh treatment of prisoners, who often die of heatstroke, sunburn and dehydration from the sun, as the Fortress is made of iron fortified with dragonscale ash, which makes objects, weapons and metals almost indestructible, and also absorbs and reflects large amounts of light and heat, killing over a hundred prisoners on a weekly basis.
The fortress is said to hold over fifty thousand prisoners in total, and is built in layers, with the most dangerous being located deepest underground.
It was recently infiltrated by the Rebellion and placed under their full control shortly after 'his' capture and imprisonment. This was probably done to keep an eye on him and prevent him from being transferred to the main fortress on Doppio Island, and was only successful because Baby Island is so isolated and the Clan didn't care enough to react faster or take extra precautions.
The Clan is too arrogant and contemptuous of the Rebellion's movements.
---
The fortress has over a hundred underground levels filled with tights and compact cells. At the top are only about fifty levels, which reek of rotting flesh and body odour to the point that the guards have to wear special gas masks.
The deeper you go into the fortress, the fewer people there are in each cell, and on the deepest level, where the strongest lay, there are only four cells, each exactly fifty feet apart. And in one of these cells, a man was held by large hands, like those of a giant, which held his legs and arms, preventing him from moving. Smaller hands reached out from the shadows and held his head in place, covering his eyes with their cold, stony fingers.
His body was bare and covered in scars and tattoos, the largest scar being an 'X' across his chest and a tattoo of a large pair of wings on his upper back near his neck with the number '12' in the middle. He had smaller scars, all with similar shapes, just different sizes. He exhaled and a small cloud of steam appeared, warming his cold and chapped lips for a painful second.
Cold, hungry and alone, unable to speak, move or feel, he was truly a caged man.
---
Outside, now standing on the mountain, on a tree at the edge, Dolffie looked down at the fortress. It was truly a scene to behold. One side mothered by the mountain's shadows, the other by the bright sun's light absorbed by the forged iron. Walls of steel and iron, over two hundred metres high, met at all four corners and each storey was four metres high. Tiny barred windows were placed every two metres and the whole fortress looked like a square metal box with a few pocked holes.
Truly the inescapable Iron Fortress of Bogo.
Dolffie grinned as the dark flames enveloped his body once again, his smile turning into a bloody, cold smile from all the darkness surrounding him.
He noticed all the Rebel guards at the foot of the fortress, in every corner. They surrounded the fortress from every angle, armed and ready, but from the looks of it, Carrot was right about their strength being primarily in numbers and weapons. They were dressed to the nines in dark green ballistic vests and helmets, utility belts packed to the brim with equipment and communication devices, sidearms, enhanced firearms and everything else. But that was something Dolffie could easily get past, all he had to do was find his target, and the rest was up to Carrot.
The dark flames gathered beneath his feet once more, darkening the tree's boughs. The ball of flame gathered beneath his feet before exploding, shooting him into the sky. Gathering more flames, he exploded it again, directing himself towards the top of the fortress.
Guards with telescopes and binoculars quickly spotted him, while the others heard the powerful explosions.
"Intruders!" they shouted as the alarms went off.
Dolffie came in so fast they didn't realise it was a person and not a missile, and they signalled frantically to each other.
"Get the barriers up!!"
They avoided firing for fear of what they thought was a special type of missile exploding prematurely and instead ran to the ends of each corner of the fortress as large machines began to emerge from the ground. The machines stood tall and large as their circular discs began to unfold and one, two, three, three barrier beams were shot into the sky, all converging at one point above the fortress: the centre.
As the last barrier caster unfolded its disc, Dolffie increased his flames and powerful shockwaves hit the mountain, causing several large boulders to roll down.
Boom!!!!
There was a loud explosion that shook the mountain as he crashed into the fortress, engulfed in the dark flames of Alabasta. His fists collided with the dragonscale ashes, meeting with great resistance as the fortified iron deflected his attack.
The fortress shook, frightening all who witnessed it and those within it, as he landed a devastating blow that caused the dragonscale ash to shatter in a single point, causing the entire iron roof to crack inwards.
The guards watched in shock and horror as the ash scales failed to absorb Dolffie's fire, which meant one thing: it wasn't hot and instead began to rust and crumble the iron.
"It's not a rocket! F-fire at it!!!"
All the guards raised their weapons with shaking hands and fired at the unknown, they didn't know what they were up against, but they knew one thing: it wasn't human, it couldn't be.
"Call for backup!"
Some shouted, even though they knew it was pointless, Baby Island was too far from their base and they were not prepared for such an attack by an unknown creature, and none of their firearms were working; the enhanced bullets were rusting and eventually turning to nothing the moment they came into contact with the mysterious, terrifying dark flames.
To make matters worse, they were trapped within their own barrier. The outer barrier that was supposed to prevent Dolffie from getting in was now preventing them from getting out. Although it was barely holding, it was reflecting most of the force and shockwaves of Dolffie's attacks back inside, causing them to drop like flies.
At the top of the fortress, Dolffie didn't even notice the guards firing as they didn't even get close. He concentrated and gathered most of the flames into his left fist, his eyes blood red and narrowed to one point, and...boom...!!!!
The iron roof crumbled as it rusted. The force and shockwaves completely shattered the outer barrier, sending all the guards flying and killing most of them, leaving the others badly wounded.
The mountain shook and cracked as boulders and rocks began to roll down. Some plants and trees were uprooted, and animals were sent flying. The shock was felt in the nearby settlements that surrounded the mountain. Some small campsites and viewpoints were crushed by the falling rocks, killing some civilians and destroying many shelters and homes.
Carrot, all the way in Ora Village, felt the attack as well, sweat dripping down his face. He knew from their journey that Dolffie's power, Alabasta, was powerful and fast, but not to this extent.
He shook himself quickly and returned to spying on a large warehouse surrounded by numerous guards and cameras. This attack was a sign that Dolffie had successfully breached the fortress barrier, which meant that the first step, which was all up to Dolffie, was complete, and now he had to get on with preparing his.
"Let's do this..."
He pumped himself up before he attacked, surprisingly Dolffie-style, all risk, force and violence. Unfortunately, it was the only way he had of breaking in, as the entire warehouse had armed security at every single point around it.
The guards quickly spotted him, pointed their guns and warned "Stop or we'll shoot".
But Carrot didn't stop and pulled out his weapon hidden in his sleeve.
