Twenty minutes earlier, in the principal's office on the eighth floor of the main tower, Dumbledore casually asked, "Severus, do you truly believe that Professor Dracula had any hand in urging Quirrell to steal the Philosopher's Stone?"

"Yes," Snape replied firmly. "Dracula is new here, and among all the professors at Hogwarts, he is the one we don't know much about. Quirrell was once a Muggle Studies teacher, but no one knows much about Dracula. On top of that, I had a brief encounter with him before school started, and I sensed his power. I'm certain he has the ability to take the Stone."

"You've been observant, Severus," Dumbledore said with a smile, passing a candy to Snape.

Snape shook his head. "No, you keep them for yourself," he said, indifferent.

Dumbledore shrugged it off, popping another candy in his mouth. "Severus, there's something I can tell you about Dracula: he has no reason to steal the Philosopher's Stone. He's someone we can trust completely. You don't need to worry."

"But I've seen Quirrell enter the restricted area on the fourth floor," Snape said with frustration. "If Dracula didn't instigate it, then how could Quirrell, that coward who can't even form a sentence properly, steal the Philosopher's Stone right under the nose of the most powerful wizard?"

Dumbledore stood, walking around his desk and coming to Snape's side. "Sometimes, Severus, we can't just look at things as they seem. What if Quirrell's true purpose in coming to Hogwarts was to obtain the Stone? His cowardly act made everyone lower their guard around him."

Snape frowned deeply. He turned to face Dumbledore. "Have you confirmed that Quirrell is after the Philosopher's Stone? If so, why not expel him from the school?"

Dumbledore shook his head, sighing. "You can't just remove a thief forever, Severus. The best way is to never expel him but to eliminate the hidden threat completely."

Snape's face turned pale, his pupils widening. "What do you mean...?"

Dumbledore's eyes hardened. "Yes, Quirrell is under the control of the Dark Lord. He came to Hogwarts only to help his master steal the Philosopher's Stone."

"Shouldn't we expel Quirrell then? The Dark Lord will bring immense danger to this school!" Snape pressed, his eyes widening with realization. "So, you plan to use the Philosopher's Stone as bait for the Dark Lord? You purposely made the challenges so simple... so only Potter would be able to stop him??!"

Snape took a step closer, his gaze unwavering as he stared at Dumbledore's sharp, calculating eyes behind his glasses.

"Are you worried about the boy?" Dumbledore asked, his tone almost casual.

"I'm not!" Snape snapped, fury rising. "He's just like his father—arrogant, undisciplined, always craving attention, and rude beyond belief! Why would I concern myself with such a vile child?"

Dumbledore chuckled softly, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "You only see what you choose to, Severus. And you certainly did well before, didn't you? Reciting the counter-curse during the Quidditch match?"

For a moment, Snape's face betrayed a flash of emotion, but he quickly regained his composure, his expression now stone-cold.

"Then tell me, what do you expect me to do?"

Dumbledore's voice dropped, yet carried weight. "Confront Professor Dracula. Use your suspicions as the excuse."

He paused before adding, his tone filled with subtle command. "Dracula's recent actions have only fueled the Dark Lord's hatred. The more you distance yourself from him, the easier it will be to gain his trust when you eventually return to the Dark Lord's fold as his trusted ally."

Snape walked toward the door of the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, his mind replaying the events that had unfolded in the principal's office.

The door creaked open before him, and a tall, wiry older witch appeared, followed by a procession of professors from various departments.

"Well, well! I never expected to find two professors fighting in our classroom!" Professor McGonagall's voice was sharp, her lips pressed tightly together, and her chest rose and fell with quick breaths. Her anger was evident. "Do you have any idea how loud your fight was? It was heard all over the castle! What kind of example are you setting for the students? Are you encouraging them to duel in private?"

With a sharp flick of her wand, she illuminated the room, oil lamps and candles flickering to life, casting a bright light across the classroom.

Her eyes then landed on the wreckage of desks and chairs, and her fury intensified. She was about to explode.

"Both of you will be placed on probation!" she snapped at Dracula and Snape, her fists clenched. "If you don't improve within a year, I will see to it that you're expelled—no matter your position!"

Snape merely shrugged, an air of indifference about him. It seemed he didn't care much for the consequences.

His gaze flicked briefly to Quirrell, who was huddled among the professors. When their eyes met, Snape deliberately shot a glare at Dracula, a look that made it seem as though the two were locked in some deep rivalry.

Dracula felt the animosity from Snape and, though confused, was never one to back down. He glared right back.

Seeing the exchange, Quirrell discreetly pulled out a blank diary and quickly scribbled a note:

"The relationship between Professors Dracula and Snape is highly hostile."

After returning Dracula's glare, the latter spoke calmly to Professor McGonagall, "Apologies, Professor McGonagall. I respectfully disagree with the terms of this probation and will be filing a formal complaint with the principal."

McGonagall, with Dracula in tow, headed to the principal's office.

Dumbledore was seated at his desk, reading Transfiguration Today, when McGonagall entered, reporting on Dracula's "misdeed" without even looking up.

"Well... Minerva," Dumbledore said, lifting his head with a sigh, "Given that this is Professor Dracula's first offense, perhaps it would be best to withhold punishment for now?"

He didn't seem to disregard Professor McGonagall's opinion, but his reasoning was simple: Dracula still held the deed to Hogwarts.
