Chapter 133: Chapter 133 The Avengers No Comparison to Their Peers
Iron Man Defeated!
At the critical moment, Cyborg arrived to save Iron Man from his perilous fall.
Even more significant, Batman followed close behind!
The sight of Batman arrival caused a collective sigh of relief across New York, as if the entire city had found its savior. Cheers erupted from every corner of the city.
Even the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents near the TCRI building could faintly hear the uproar, marveling at Batman standing in the hearts of the people.
On one hand, they were astonished by his reputation.
On the other, they felt a small measure of reassurance.
Batman superhero team was effectively an ally of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Their presence drastically reduced the potential devastation of the alien invasion.
Thanks to them, aside from the injured agents, there were no civilian casualties.
If they could neutralize the War Fortress hovering overhead, the alien invasion would come to a definitive conclusion.
"Batman, what your plan?"
Nick Fury watched closely, though his trust in Batman wasn't absolute.
The enemy was too formidable.
Tony Stark, with all his technology and experience, had spent a significant amount of time battling in the sky and still couldn't even breach the War Fortress defenses.
As capable as Batman was, Fury couldn't believe that his known arsenal would be enough to bring down the War Fortress.
Not to mention the alien standing on the extended platform of the War Fortress—a wildcard Fury couldn't predict.
This skepticism was why Fury hadn't counted on Batman from the start.
Unnoticed by others, Fury slipped a pager from his pocket.
If the situation took a turn for the worse, he was ready to use his ultimate trump card.
Meanwhile.
"Cyborg? Batman?"
Tony glanced at the two newcomers, a mix of relief and humiliation crossing his face.
Embarrassing!
Tony Stark, ever the proud man, silently vowed that he would never let this kind of situation happen again.
BOOM!
Still encased in the transparent ice block, Tony saw Cyborg fire an energy cannon directly at him.
Crack! Crack!
Before he could react, the blast shattered the icy prison encasing his suit, restoring his mobility.
"Thanks!"
Tony nodded toward Cyborg.
From the Doctor Octopus incident to Iron Monger, and now to the alien invasion—this wasn't the first or even the second time Cyborg had saved him.
What was the deal?
Were they destined to be linked this way? Was Cyborg his guardian angel?
Tony expression grew complicated.
"Save your thanks for after this is over," Cyborg replied, cutting him off.
Cyborg responded with a simple, "Let finish this," as he propelled himself into the air, joining Batman atop the Batmobile.
Click!
The Batmobile cockpit opened, and Batman gracefully vaulted onto the hood, standing shoulder to shoulder with Cyborg.
Under the watchful gaze of countless onlookers, the two moved steadily closer to the War Fortress.
"So, two more foolish humans?"
Rang low, disdainful voice echoed from within his robotic vessel. His words carried an air of superiority as they reached the ears of Cyborg and Batman.
Neither was surprised to hear Rang speaking English. It likely stemmed from the alien prior observation of Earth and his understanding of human culture.
Rang hadn't entered Earth directly because of his dependence on the War Fortress. He needed to ensure that upon arriving, he could not only defend against humanity counterattacks but crush them outright.
The War Fortress was his ultimate insurance.
"Foolish?"
Batman and Cyborg exchanged glances, their identical smirks betraying their confidence.
Below them, Iron Man hovered, visibly fatigued.
Tony arc reactor was down to 39%, and his armor showed clear signs of wear.
At this point, all he could do was act as backup for Cyborg and Batman.
"Be careful. That ship defenses are formidable. Without breaching the external defense system, it impossible to get inside," Tony warned.
"Tony," Batman turned his head slightly, fixing him with a calm yet piercing gaze. "For now, just stay back, watch, and cheer for us like the citizens of New York."
Whoosh!
Before Tony could respond, Cyborg launched forward, ignoring his warning. Jets of energy blasted from his back as he made a beeline for the War Fortress.
Hot on his heels, the Batmobile surged forward, propelled by its powerful thrusters. Batman, perched atop the car, aimed straight for the extended platform where Rang stood—a red, jellyfish-like alien housed within a humanoid robotic shell.
Boom!
The shockwave from their combined momentum rippled outward, rocking even Tony armor and causing him to momentarily lose balance.
"You two…"
Tony voice trailed off in exasperation.
Clearly, neither of them had any intention of heeding his warning.
"Hmph!"
Tony snorted and stayed put, mentally preparing to watch them fail.
He had experienced firsthand how advanced the War Fortress external defenses were—it had made every attempt he'd made to penetrate them utterly futile.
Even J.A.R.V.I.S., who had managed to infiltrate the War Fortress network and extract some data, couldn't bypass its defenses. Learning about the War Fortress and its commander, Rang, was the extent of what J.A.R.V.I.S. could achieve.
Taking control of the War Fortress was simply out of the question.
The fortress was a product of an alien civilization far beyond Earth comprehension.
That J.A.R.V.I.S. had even managed to access the network was a testament to Tony brilliance as humanity leading inventor.
He couldn't fathom how Cyborg and Batman could hope to succeed where he had failed.
Next moment.
The War Fortress external cannons swiveled, locking onto Cyborg and Batman.
It was the same situation Tony had faced earlier when he tried to force his way inside.
Tony could already picture Cyborg and Batman being blown back by the endless barrage of energy blasts.
The people of New York, along with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents near the TCRI building, collectively held their breath, their eyes glued to the sky.
Whoosh!
Energy blasts streaked toward Cyborg and Batman like lightning.
Cyborg raised his hand slightly.
The incoming projectiles suddenly veered off course, as if they were being controlled by him. With a mere wave of his hand, Cyborg redirected them away from their path.
Boom! Boom!
The blasts detonated far off in the distance, shredding through the dark clouds above and scattering them into oblivion.
Cyborg and Batman pressed forward without pause.
Their movements seemed calculated, as if they had foreseen every attack. The two effortlessly maneuvered through the War Fortress relentless barrage, bypassing its external defenses entirely and reaching the extended platform where Rang, the alien commander, resided.
Watching this unfold, Tony eyes widened in disbelief.
"Shit!"
Under the gaze of hundreds of thousands—perhaps even millions—of onlookers, Cyborg and Batman had achieved in mere moments what Tony Stark had struggled to do for what felt like an eternity.
"This can't be real!"
Tony was stunned.
Was he the only one getting beaten down while everyone else showed off their skills?
Frustration bubbled inside him as he watched Cyborg and Batman effortlessly succeed.
He even started to wonder if the two had been nearby all along, deliberately waiting for him to flounder just for their amusement.
TCRI Building, Nearby.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents stationed there breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Batman, it seemed, was far more dependable than Iron Man.
Even Nick Fury found himself sharing this sentiment.
After some deliberation, he put away the specially modified pager in his hand, deciding to place some trust in Batman.
War Fortress Platform.
On the platform extended from the War Fortress, the alien commander Rang, encased within his humanoid robotic suit, showed visible confusion on his grotesque, tentacled face.
"How is this possible?"
The red jellyfish-like alien couldn't comprehend how these two humans had bypassed the fortress defenses.
In theory, the energy blasts should have sealed off every possible route forward.
There was no conceivable way they could have passed through unscathed!
The only one who truly understood the situation was Anton—currently playing the roles of Batman, Cyborg, and Green Arrow.
Cyborg abilities included a unique proficiency in hacking alien technology.
His quantum computer-based brain had begun infiltrating the War Fortress systems the moment it appeared.
What J.A.R.V.I.S. couldn't achieve, Cyborg could.
While Cyborg hadn't fully wrested control of the War Fortress from Rang, he had successfully manipulated its defenses, subtly altering the trajectories of its energy blasts to create a clear path forward.
Rang hadn't even considered the possibility of a cyber-intruder within his fortress, poised to challenge his control.
Even Tony Stark, who had attempted something similar with no success, couldn't wrap his head around what was happening.
Tony pride simply wouldn't allow him to believe that anyone could achieve what he couldn't—especially in a field he prided himself on mastering.
BOOM!
Cyborg and Batman stood face-to-face with Rang, now exposed and vulnerable.
The grotesque red jellyfish flailed its tendrils menacingly, clearly agitated by their intrusion.
"I'll warn you only once!"
Rang emerged from the abdomen of his humanoid robotic suit, revealing his true form—a brain-like mass with writhing appendages beneath.
"Get off my ship!"
His voice was low and menacing.
Click! Click!
As soon as the words left Rang mouth, the humanoid mech he was controlling clasped its hands together, transforming them into a massive, elongated cannon aimed directly at Cyborg and Batman.
Anton couldn't help but chuckle internally.
In the original storyline, Michelangelo had described Rang as looking like chewed bubblegum—a surprisingly fitting description.
From what Anton remembered, Rang was an original character from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series.
Originally a warlord from another planet, Rang had lost his body, leaving only his brain. He traveled in a mobile fortress—the War Fortress—and upon arriving on Earth, formed an alliance with Shredder. Shredder even built him the humanoid mech he was currently piloting.
In an alternate comic version, Rang was depicted as the last survivor of an alien race. His ultimate goal shifted from dominating Earth to terraforming the planet into a replica of his homeworld, allowing his species to potentially rise again.
In either case, Rang was an infamous alien criminal with a laundry list of heinous deeds.
As Anton reflected on these details, the cannon on Rang mech began to charge, a glowing blue orb of energy forming at its muzzle.
Whoosh!
The external platform of the War Fortress—visible to everyone on Earth—became the center of attention.
Millions of eyes were glued to the unfolding scene, with countless people holding their breath, afraid to blink.
This battle wasn't just about New York. It was about the survival of Earth. No one wanted to miss even the slightest development.
At that moment, New Yorkers were gripped with overwhelming anxiety.
Would Cyborg and Batman meet the same fate as Iron Man, blasted back the way they came?
Would they fail just as spectacularly?
No one dared to imagine the consequences if they did.
TCRI Building.
Daredevil and Spider-Man burst into the building interior.
They quickly took down the remaining Foot Clan members, leaving them face-to-face with Shredder and Karai.
Neither Shredder nor Karai was surprised by their arrival.
Instead, they were fully prepared for battle.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The moment Daredevil and Spider-Man appeared, the two opponents leapt into action simultaneously.
Daredevil engaged Karai in a fast-paced duel.
Spider-Man, meanwhile, found himself squaring off against Shredder, clad in his samurai armor. Shredder eyes burned with a terrifying intensity as he assumed a battle stance.
Shredder, the legendary ninja master.
Spider-Man had heard countless stories about him from Master Splinter during his training.
"If I can beat you, does that mean I graduate?"
Spider-Man muttered to himself.
He couldn't help but think of his four turtle brothers.
Hadn't the Turtles earned Splinter approval by capturing Shredder?
"Looks like it time for you to relive a tragedy, Shredder!"
Spider-Man voice was steady, his masked face showing no fear, only eager anticipation.
"Hmph!"
Shredder had no intention of wasting time with words.
He was eager to eliminate the threats before him and reach the alien War Fortress overhead, where he could align with Rang to conquer Earth.
Boom!
The two clashed, their fierce battle beginning immediately.
Outside the TCRI Building.
On the street, Rhino and Boar were being utterly humiliated by Green Arrow and the Ninja Turtles.
These two brutes, who had relied on sheer physical power to overwhelm S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, were quickly reduced to their true forms when faced with opponents on equal—or superior—ground.
Under the watchful eyes of the remaining S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, the Ninja Turtles battered Rhino and Boar, leaving them bruised and bloodied.
Green Arrow occasional precise shots targeted their weakest spots, even blinding one of Boar eyes—a feat Hawkeye had failed to achieve in the earlier skirmish.
Meanwhile, Hawkeye and Natasha, both severely weakened, were being helped to their feet by other agents.
Instead of relief, they felt a deep sense of humiliation as they watched the battle unfold.
The truth was undeniable: they had been outclassed.
For two of S.H.I.E.L.D. most valued agents, this realization struck hard, even shaking their confidence in their abilities.
Nick Fury had hinted at including them in a new superteam S.H.I.E.L.D. was assembling—the Avengers.
But when compared to Batman Justice League, could the Avengers even compete?
This thought gnawed at both Hawkeye and Black Widow, and they weren't alone in their doubts.
Even Iron Man, observing the events unfolding inside the War Fortress and listening to J.A.R.V.I.S. updates, couldn't help but question S.H.I.E.L.D. capabilities.
At the moment, the Avengers had only three confirmed members: himself, Hawkeye, and Black Widow.
Meanwhile, their rival team—the Justice League—was already comprised of Batman, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Venom, Green Arrow, Cyborg, and the Ninja Turtles. Each member brought unique abilities and skills to the table.
What could the Avengers bring to the fight?
Sheer stubbornness?
