Chapter 167: Chapter 167 Then You’re Underestimating Me!
"...Do you underestimate Batman, or do you underestimate the Joker?"
The deep voice echoed.
Everyone in the office froze, their expressions shifting instantly.
Killian face darkened as he clenched his fists, realizing he had been exposed.
"How is this possible?!"
"How could he have found us so quickly?"
"Could there be a traitor?"
Killian squinted, countless thoughts flashing through his mind.
He had believed his actions were well-concealed. Over the years, he had built his network quietly, maintaining favorable relationships with various underground groups without making enemies. Exposure wasn't impossible, but this quickly?
It had only been a matter of hours since the bombing of Wayne Enterprises!
How had they tracked him down in less than half a day?
Killian was seething.
Though the voice didn't explicitly identify itself, Killian already had a strong suspicion about who was behind it.
He scanned the office—monitoring the cameras, computers, phones, and other devices.
"Cyborg!"
The name slipped through Killian clenched teeth.
Having prepared himself for a confrontation with Batman, Killian had naturally done his homework on Batman and the Justice League.
Among the Justice League members, aside from Batman, one name stood out: Cyborg, Victor Stone.
The half-human, half-machine cybernetic hero had recently risen to become one of the most celebrated superheroes, second only to Batman.
The recent alien invasion in New York had propelled Cyborg into the spotlight, cementing his position among the top-tier heroes.
Killian was also well aware of Cyborg abilities.
A brain transformed into a quantum computer!
Although Killian doubted whether such technology actually existed on Earth, he was certain of Cyborg unparalleled hacking capabilities.
If anyone from the Justice League could have breached AIM network and taken control of their devices to deliver that ominous message, it was Cyborg.
Killian wasn't naive enough to believe this was the work of any other faction.
He had no illusions about the severity of the situation.
"Move!"
Killian barked, his voice sharp. "Evacuate! Now!"
Without wasting a moment, the three of them quickly left the office.
"Cut the power to this building. Head to the underground parking lot,"
Killian ordered, discarding his phone and instructing his men to dispose of all electronic devices. Without hesitation, they made their way to the parking lot.
Meanwhile.
Far away in a wealthy district of New York, Anton smirked coldly.
With a mere thought, Cyborg avatar materialized within a 100-meter radius of AIM location.
It soared into the sky like a shooting star, streaking straight toward Manhattan.
Whoosh!
Cyborg appearance immediately drew the attention of New York citizens.
People stopped and looked up at the figure in the sky, their faces filled with surprise and curiosity, tinged with a hint of unease.
What was happening?
Why had Cyborg appeared again?
Was something big about to happen in New York?
NYPD Headquarters.
It was just after work hours.
George, having wrapped up the day tasks, had no intention of heading home. He was still grappling with the Wayne Enterprises bombing case.
On one hand, the man behind Wayne Enterprises was likely Batman!
Given Batman good relationship with the NYPD, George felt obligated to help him resolve this problem.
On the other hand, the Jameson family was pressuring the NYPD through high-ranking officials to solve the case quickly.
Unsurprisingly, George now had another reason to work overtime.
With these two pressures combined, George figured he'd be sleeping at the precinct for the next few days.
"Ugh," he sighed.
Bang!
The office door was pushed open.
"Commissioner, the night shift just reported that Cyborg flew over New York moments ago!"
One of George officers hurriedly reported.
"What?"
George was startled. Thinking of Cyborg connection to Batman, he guessed Cyborg appearance might be related to the bombing.
"Where was he headed?"
George stood up, unable to contain his urgency. "Quick, let move! We need to get there immediately!"
"Understood!"
The officer nodded. "I'll inform the team right away."
Moments later.
A dozen vehicles drove out of AIM underground parking lot and immediately dispersed into the bustling streets.
Among the vehicles were AIM company cars, while the rest were random cars Killian had ordered his men to steal from the parking lot.
The plan was simple: scatter and confuse Cyborg tracking.
Even a small distraction could give them a crucial edge, increasing Killian chances of escaping.
Clearly, they had underestimated their opponent.
Anton, in his Cyborg avatar, had been monitoring all nearby street cameras.
Although Killian had cut power to AIM building, the street cameras outside were connected to the city infrastructure, not the building internal circuits.
By accessing external cameras, Anton quickly eliminated several vehicles as decoys.
Of course, none of them contained Killian.
"Two left," Anton muttered.
Arriving at the scene, he located one of the remaining cars. Peering inside, he saw an unfamiliar face behind the wheel. His expression turned icy.
Anton had intended to ignore the car, but the driver, seemingly brainwashed into fanatical devotion, stomped on the gas, aiming to ram into him.
There was no need for mercy.
Raising his arm, Anton fired a missile.
Boom!!
The car charging at him was flipped into the air, crashing heavily onto the sidewalk.
"One more."
In an instant, Anton propelled himself skyward, jets of pressurized air blasting from his feet. Within seconds, he reached another street and found the remaining vehicle.
But once again, Killian wasn't inside.
Anton was momentarily taken aback.
Then it clicked, and a cold smirk spread across his lips.
"Clever, but not clever enough."
He rarely gave Killian a word of praise, but the coldness in his voice was almost tangible, like ice ready to freeze the air.
Closing his eyes, Anton pushed his brain to its limits.
In an instant, he took control of every nearby surveillance camera, systematically eliminating possibilities.
Then, at an alleyway entrance from a minute earlier, he spotted Killian face—100% match!
Clearly, Killian had instructed his men to drive as decoys while he slipped away through exhaust vents, sewers, or other blind spots that avoided surveillance, emerging in a corner to blend into the crowd.
Without hesitation, Anton left the scene.
In the car behind him, Killian subordinate stared in shock as Anton once again took to the sky, propelled by a burst of powerful jets that sent shockwaves rippling through the air.
Amid the startled cries of onlookers, Anton landed on the next street over.
He quickly locked onto a figure in a hoodie, the hood drawn low to conceal most of their face.
"Killian, did you really think I wouldn't find you like this?"
Anton gaze locked onto the man as his electronic eye glowed red, his voice radiating deadly intent.
"Then you've underestimated me!"
