Chapter 5: ch5
After receiving the call, we immediately went to the place where the beggar was being guarded.
Something happened to the beggar, as if he had suddenly gone mad.
"You are finally here. This beggar suddenly became ill for some reason. His whole body was twitching, and he was foaming at the mouth. The illness lasted for about 20 minutes. After he calmed down, he started to shout for water. The medical staff could not figure out what the specific illness was. He did not allow anyone to get close to him, so there was nothing we could do."
"Are there any monitoring data such as heart rate and pulse?" I asked the medical staff on duty.
The staff member shook his head: "It happened suddenly. He hit whoever got close to him and scratched himself all over his body. He was yelling that something was coming out and that he had a fever and needed water."
I looked at Alex, frowned, and said, "There's no need to sleep tonight. Find someone to give him an injection of anesthetic and do a full-body check. Send the results to my department. Make sure to check it thoroughly, including every internal organ."
So, Alex and I stayed there until the early morning. Seeing that there was nothing more we could do there, we went back to the bureau to check the surveillance.
"We found a suspicious vehicle! Captain Alex! Captain Alex!" Frank called us excitedly with dark circles under his eyes, not knowing that we hadn't slept for almost two days and two nights and were sleeping soundly.
"Let's talk about it after we wake up." We both waved our hands, not wanting to be disturbed, and fell into a deep sleep again.
Suddenly a heavy voice sounded again.
"Don't sleep! A body part was found in Eastport Park. Alex, you are jointly responsible for this case!"
Alex, who was half asleep and half awake, suddenly stood up from the chair, but he just stood at attention with his eyes closed. His consciousness was still in the past three minutes. But the next moment, when he heard the word "case," his big eyes opened wide.
"Director Smith! I still have two cases to solve. Chief Carter and I haven't slept for two days and two nights!"
"If the case is not solved, I guess you two won't be able to sleep for a week!" The director's attitude was very firm. It just so happened that these murders, one after another, were happening in this city, which was under his jurisdiction.
He also wanted to solve the case as soon as possible, otherwise, the pressure would be too great.
I dragged my exhausted body and just washed my face when I saw Lucy coming to work with sandwiches and coffee for me and Alex. I had no choice but to take breakfast to the crime scene. I quickly finished last night's dinner and today's breakfast in the car. I didn't even have time to watch the surveillance video.
I was very curious why the chief forced the case on Alex even though he knew he already had a case. Logically speaking, we have almost reached our limit, and there are many vacancies in the bureau, such as John Doe, who is competing with Alex for the position of captain of the police force.
Since I couldn't figure it out, I stopped thinking about it. Instead, I took a deep breath, sat in the car, and closed my eyes to rest.
As soon as I arrived at the scene, I found that the entrance was surrounded by reporters and onlookers...
"Excuse me, is this dismemberment case related to the previous case?"
"Three murders were discovered within a week, which has caused social panic in this city..."
Alex was so angry that his teeth were itching. He cursed in a low voice: "Where are the police officers who are controlling the scene? Where is the person in charge who allowed so many people to gather and watch?"
"Oh, Captain Alex hasn't even become the captain yet, but he's already so irritable?"
"Why are you here? Director Smith asked me to be in charge of this case." Alex sneered.
"You think I wanted to come? The police call was answered by my people. I've been here for a long time."
In order to prevent the tension from getting worse, I interrupted John Doe with a cold face and asked, "Where is the deceased?"
The victim was dismembered, and body parts were found all over the park. They were scattered, which also shows that the murderer was relatively calm. If it were an ordinary person, they would just throw the body and run away, and would never choose a strategic place to dump the body.
Some parts were found by pet dogs, some by children, and some by park cleaners...
Lucy bit into a sandwich and watched Alex and me observe the body parts. John Doe stared at Lucy and said, "Is this girl mentally competent? She can still eat with relish in this situation. Don't you know that you can't eat at a crime scene?"
Lucy was very smart. She could see clearly that Alex and John Doe were sworn enemies. She said softly, "Sir, what you said is wrong. I ate breakfast without affecting my work. Is there a problem? Those two police officers over there are still vomiting. Why don't you do anything about it?"
I was secretly pleased for Alex, and he controlled his expression very naturally. I gave him a look, and Lucy stuck out her tongue and retreated behind me. She humbly apologized to John Doe, and then we started to discuss business.
Judging from the cut edges of the body parts, they are very irregular, and should have been dismembered with a saw-like tool. The body parts were also cut relatively completely, and each piece was a specific part, which shows that the person was not on the verge of going berserk when cutting the body, and understood the structure of the human body.
The plastic bag was taken away for inspection of fingerprints. Regardless of whether there are clues or not, the inspection is necessary. Moreover, we found a common point among these body parts, that is, they are very clean, with very little blood. They have also been classified, and each part of the torso, such as the calves, forearms, and buttocks, is clearly divided.
Lucy sniffed the body in the bag and immediately covered her nose: "Chief Carter, there is a smell of hydrogen peroxide."
Seeing that Lucy didn't act pretentious at all, and was able to join in immediately after eating the sandwich without changing her expression or heart beating, I really admired her a little more.
"What does the murderer want to cover up?" Alex asked me puzzledly.
John Doe stopped talking nonsense and got back to the point: "What's strange right now is that, within a week, except for the last victim who received a call to the police, no one noticed that the person was missing."
I looked carefully at the palm of the corpse. There were no fingerprints or lines.
"Based on the degree of rigor mortis, the time of death is no more than 24 hours. It was not discovered for such a long time, so it is unlikely that someone reported it. Based on the degree of bone development and the size of the palm, it is estimated that it is an adult male, about 30 to 50 years old, who often does rough work and has calluses on his palms. The body parts should have been soaked in industrial hydrogen peroxide solution."
This is where the suspicious point lies. Hydrogen peroxide solution is also known as hydrogen peroxide. Too high a concentration can burn the skin. According to the size of the body parts, the volume of the container used to soak the body parts is roughly equivalent to that of half a leg. It is unlikely that a normal person would want to get a tank of hydrogen peroxide, and no one usually buys it for industrial use.
After the inspection, they asked Frank to take the body parts back to the bureau, and the rest of the personnel blocked off the entire park to search for any remaining body parts.
Alex also went back. When he was leaving, his face looked a little heavy. Now three murders were squeezed together, and he was also overwhelmed.
The forensic department left a record of the on-site investigation, and I took Lucy with me to carefully investigate the situation on the scene.
As it turned out, the murderer was very cunning, and the location chosen was actually planned. Eastport Park is a place that 80% of the residents in this district visit, especially in the summer when the atmosphere is lively from four in the morning to ten in the evening.
Since the body parts were dumped in a place with such a large flow of people, the murderer had already prepared for them to be discovered. However, once the body parts were discovered, the crime scene would be destroyed by the crowd, so this place was both risky and safe.
Because the crime scene was destroyed, it was the best cover-up and protection for the murderer.
I frowned, thinking of something, but I couldn't grasp it.
"Lucy, go and check if there is soil at these places where body parts were found?" After a pause, I looked around and said slowly.
Lucy obediently went to various locations to collect evidence and investigate.
I have a feeling that the murderer doesn't seem to want them to die, and I'm sure the murderer has mysophobia and obsessive-compulsive disorder. If my guess is correct, every place he dumped the bodies was on the ground...
Sure enough, when Lucy came back to report, there were three other places where body parts were found - on the lawn, in the woods, under the rockery tree, and under the stone bridge.
Around noon, the bureau called again: "Chief Carter, the test results of the eyewitness are out..."
The test results are out? Witnesses?
