Demon Legacy

Chapter 23: Fractured Bonds

Demon Girl hovered above them, her sharp gaze flickering between Kiki and the group. Her wings twitched as she descended, her voice cutting through the tense air. "Are they your family?"

Scarlett crossed her arms, glaring. "I just told you they are."

Demon Girl landed, her feet scraping against the rocky ground. "You could've made it up."

Scarlett's eyes narrowed. "I don't make things up."

Kiki stepped forward, his shoulders tense. "It's true."

For a moment, Demon Girl froze. Her wings drooped slightly as she stared at him. "I… didn't expect that."

Scarlett smirked, breaking the silence. "See? Told you."

Lyvessa's quiet voice broke through. "So Scarlett… isn't fully demon after all."

Scarlett whipped around to face Kiki, her voice urgent. "Dad, you're a demon, right? Please say you are."

Before Kiki could respond, Demon Girl's laugh rang out, sharp and bitter. "Him? A demon? Not even close." Her gaze cut to Scarlett, her tone cold. "But you? You are. A full demon."

Li moved closer to Kiki, gripping his arm. "Dad, can we leave now?"

Scarlett stepped forward, shaking her head. "No."

Lie rested a calming hand on Li's shoulder. "Li, your father has a family here too."

Demon Girl's wings flared out, her body tensing as she stepped closer. "Scarlett, Lie, Li… I have to tell you something." Her voice dropped, her tone icy. "I need to kill Kiki."

Scarlett gasped, her voice trembling. "What? Why?"

Demon Girl's eyes burned with intensity as she pointed at Kiki. "He's your father. Not mine. My father is the Demon King."

Scarlett froze, her expression shattering. "No. No way. The Demon King is a bad guy!"

Demon Girl's wings flared as her anger exploded. "He's NOT a bad guy!" Her voice cracked as she stepped closer, her breath uneven. "Who told you that?"

Scarlett hesitated, her voice breaking. "Mom… the teachers…"

Demon Girl's hands trembled, her nails biting into her palms. Blue flames flickered at her fingertips, tiny but fiercely alive. "They lied to you. Everything you think you know—it's all lies."

Scarlett's shoulders slumped as her voice shrank. "My mother wouldn't lie…"

Demon Girl's anger flared again, her wings snapping open. She clenched her fists, the blue flames growing brighter. Kiki stepped forward, raising his hand. A surge of energy formed around him, rippling outward.

Li stared wide-eyed at her father. "Dad, what are you doing?"

Demon Girl's eyes flicked to Kiki. Her breathing slowed, her anger faltering for a brief moment.

Lie stepped forward, her voice steady. "You will not kill my husband."

Kiki lowered his hand slightly, his voice calm. "She won't."

Demon Girl's expression hardened again. "Who are you to say that?"

Kiki's gaze met hers, steady and unflinching. "Because I know you. You don't like me, but you don't hate me. You won't kill me."

For a moment, the tension held like a knife's edge. Then, Demon Girl's hand shot forward, a small but intense blue flame sparking to life. She pointed it directly at Kiki, the air thick with energy.

"Do it," Kiki said quietly.

Her hand trembled, her memories rushing back like a tide—Kiki standing by her side, his quiet presence grounding her in moments of doubt. She saw his patience, his strength, and the way he bore her anger without wavering.

With a frustrated scream, she turned and flung the flame skyward. It soared, bursting into a brilliant explosion of light that left hell silent in its wake.

Scarlett, stunned, whispered, "What… just happened?"

Kiki stepped forward, his gaze soft as he watched Demon Girl. "You don't need to carry this anger anymore."

But Demon Girl's eyes were still sharp. She turned to the group, her voice low and dangerous. "I didn't kill him. But hell will."

Scarlett's breath caught. "What do you mean?"

Demon Girl's wings flared again as she turned on Scarlett. "I told the demons the truth."

Scarlett's voice broke. "What truth?"

Demon Girl's expression twisted into something between rage and sadness. "That you stole my throne. That you're not the rightful ruler."

Scarlett's hands curled into fists. "What are you talking about?"

"I'm the eldest," Demon Girl spat. "I was supposed to rule hell. But the Queen changed that. Gave it to you instead."

Scarlett stepped back, her voice rising. "So you made them hate me? My own home?"

Demon Girl stared at her, her jaw clenched. "That's why I'll time-lock you. They deserve to know what was taken from me."

Scarlett's voice cracked as she yelled, "You think locking your sister in time makes this right? Do you even know how much this hurts?"

Demon Girl's wings folded tightly against her back. She looked away, unable to meet Scarlett's eyes, the flames in her hands flickering and fading
