Chapter 7: I Choose...
Arc 1(Prologue Arc)
Chapter 6: I Choose...
***×××***
'I Choose...Dante System.'
*
[System Confirmed!]
[Dante System Integrated!]
*
Now there was a reason he chose this particular system.
When he was back in his homeworld, he was too focused on vengeance that he didn't have time to enjoy himself.
It was no wonder; he was filled with hatred and he couldn't vent his rage. He was frustrated and stressed, but he didn't know better.
He didn't know that games were good stress relieves; but perhaps it was better he didn't know, because sometimes, it feels like they just try to make you even more enraged. Or perhaps, engaged.
Have you ever played a 5v5 strategic game? Yup, ranked games are shit, teammates are shit and the whole game feels like it's just trying to enraged you.
It's wild.
Perhaps it was indeed a good thing he didn't know.
There was one game he played a bit, though. It was Devil May Cry.
DMC 1 to be exact.
Now he didn't have computers, mind you; he played on his friend's.
It was an okay for him, he didn't particularly feel less stressed, nor was it boring. It was a good time pass for him, that was it.
He remembered Dante, he was a character he liked and envied.
Dante was carefree, had a dirty mouth that insulted the worst of fiends like they were old friends, and the same fondness for pizza that Douglas had, just that the latter liked it spicy.
Yeah, weird, maybe.
There were a lot of things to mention, but overall, Dante was a character that left an impression on Douglas.
So, he had no reason not to choose the Dante system among all others whom he didn't even know, except for Sparda system.
He didn't choose Sparda system because the term it used was too vast. It could be the legendary Sparda himself, or it could be Dante or perhaps Vergil, or it might be a diluted version of both Sparda himself and his sons.
It was a risky choice.
There was also a Vergil System, but he didn't choose it.
He didn't know Vergil enough to take that bet. He was more comfortable with taking just Dante, instead of the roundabout path that was the Sparda System.
Plus, in DMC 1, Vergil was Nelo Angelo, who was defeated by Dante. He remembered in his discussion with his friend about who among Dante, Mundus or Nelo Angelo was stronger; at that time, his friends mentioned Nelo Angelo's birth name, Virgil Sparda.
It looked like taking Vergil would be a hassle, he looked like he had a lotta trouble and has been through some shit. Not that Dante was any better, but he, he preferred Dante.
Plus, Dante was in SSS Rank while Vergil was S Rank.
Now hear me out, combat-wise, Dante and Vergil are equal, yes, but Dante has way too many treasures to just put him in S Rank.
Though, Douglas doesn't know about anything above DMC 1, that is the limit of his knowledge.
Nevertheless, it's useless to worry about things that are already done. What's spilled cannot be unspilled, right? Hahaha.
'Umm...status?'
*Ding!*

From the looks of it, indeed, he had become a fourth of a demon, a fourth of a Sparda. A legendary bloodline of demons that stood above all others.
Even his attribute showed something, which indicated that he could now use Magic of that attribute. It was a step towards greatness, though only a step was taken.
'Hmm...very interesting. It doesn't show much, but I'm not asking for much either, so I'm not disappointed. I'm more curious about shop, as I'm already clear about inventory.'
*
—[SHOP]—
WARNING: THIS MESSAGE WILL ONLY APPEAR ONCE;-
This shop contains the techniques and weapons that Dante had in his life, which includes and not limited to, both man-made weapons and devil arms.
[Swords]
[Firearms]
[Styles]
*
'Ohhh...that's nice. I have only ever played DMC 1, but I know that 2 and 3 were out before I died, but I haven't played them yet. There might be even more, but that's better for me. More weapons. More advantages.
For now, what I'm lacking are Red Orbs. It said I had to crystalize blood of living organisms, so it shouldn't only be crystalized demon blood. That makes things easier, even weaker demons are difficult foes with my current strength.
I don't know what styles are, but they must be useful.
Hmm...from what I know, Dante was wasn't that strong. Maybe he got stronger throughout the game, but he was a one man army even in the initial game, so he must be pretty strong.
Speaking of strength, if there is boundless at the very top, then in what order are the others categorised? System?'
*
—[Ranking System]—
—Ranks are assigned to individuals according to their value; from equipments owned and bloodlines to special powers.
—Individual Ranking also takes combat capability into consideration.
—In case of weapons, it is based purely on potential, practicality and power held.
[BOUNDLESS]
[Ex Rank] = [Outerversal]
[SSS Rank] = [Hyperversal]
[SS Rank] = [Mega Multiversal]
[S Rank] = [Multiversal]
[A Rank] = [Universal]
[B Rank] = [Galaxy]
[C Rank] = [Solar System]
[D Rank] = [Planet]
[E Rank] = [Continental]
[F Rank] = [Empire]
[G Rank] = [Kingdom]
[H Rank] = [Metropolitan]
[I Rank] = [City]
[J Rank] = [Town]
[K Rank] = [Village]
[L Rank] = [Building]
[M Rank] = [Average Human]
And below are the various levels of trash in descending order.
*
'That's...a long list. And the note says that every individual is ranked based upon their combat capability and what they have at disposal, so Dante must be at least Multiversal and all his devil arms pushed him to Hyperversal value.
In just DMC 1 he had a variety of devil arms. The Dante System sells every weapons Dante has ever held, so it's fair...I guess? I don't know, I don't even know what Multiversal is. I do know Universal, but the others are a huge mess of gibberish to me.
Honestly, I don't understand these Multiverse Outerverse bullcraps, but I guess they are levels above Universe? That means Universe is more like a big ant to the truly strong, huh?
One day...I'll get there, for sure.
System, show me my status again with updated statistics accurate to 'your' power ranking.'

'Hmm...I guess I could take care of a village on my own, but it stinks my eyes to see that I'm still way down there in ranking. I'm in K Rank right now, and counting from EX rank, there's...
...14 ranks of difference between us. That's crazy.
But I'm not too discouraged. I will eventually reach that level, or close. My system is EX Rank, so that means I'll be, at the very least, Outerversal. So no need to worry my pretty head over it.
What I wanna know is, system, how vast is my inventory? And what are it's limitations?'
[The inventory space is, frankly, infinite. You could put in any amount of things you want. It doesn't have a mass limit, meaning you could put any amount of an object with infinite mass. Size or weight does not make a difference. There also isn't anything stopping you from putting sentient beings like humans.]
'Well ain't that a sweet bonus? I think I hit the jackpot with this one, heh. Well then, I think it's time to master the flames in my right hand.'
[Host, there is one thing you missed. There is a beginner gift pack. Would you like to open?]
'Oh, uh...sure?'
[Congratulations! You have obtained Titan's Strength Skill!]
[Congratulations! You have obtained Rebellion without the need to buy it!]
[Congratulations! You have obtained Ebony and Ivory without the need to buy them!]
[Congratulations! You have obtained the iconic red-coloured long, two-tailed Coat]
[Congratulations! You have obtained Telekinesis]
[Titan's Strength: You are born with an unnatural affinity with strength, to the point people mistake you for the Titan of Strength, Atlas. Your strength far surpasses those of your Ranks and training yield better results.]
[Telekinesis: The ability to control objects, both animate and inanimate. The lifting strength of Telekinesis is based on your arm strength.]
"Jackpot~!"
*
While Douglas was busy with his newfound powers, left to his own business, there, in the slums where he had killed the magician, stood a unique and distinguishable pair.
One was tall and the other was short.
One was big and muscular, and the other was petite.
In a way, they look more like a parent and child duo than anything else.
What they wore though, definitely makes them look suspicious, with black cloaks covering them head to toe.
"Hmm...what could have possibly occured here?" Said the taller one.
"Eh, it looks like a fight to me?" The petite one answered, tilting their head. "But in a fight, there is always a winner, right? But they both died. So a third party?"
"Hm..." Thinking for a bit, the taller one replied. "The wounds on our little fire magician friend here don't look like wind magic, more like a sword? Or a sharp object? So there is definitely a third party here. How strange, we would know if it was another faction..."
"Intriguing, isn't it?" The little one said.
"What is?"
"The fire magician won. The wind magician was vaporised, and the fire magician didn't have a trace of wind magic in his body, so it was an overwhelming win, but the fire magician still died.
The cause seem to be a crude cut with something sharp. A sword, a knife, or a glass, it could be anything, but that isn't important. What's important is who did it.
Well, the cult was divided into 2 factions after the hero defeated leader. Our Faction definitely stated clearly that we wouldn't interfere with the other party outside of matters regarding the hero.
The Renaissance Faction will NOT interfere with us, since what happened here didn't interfere with their plans. Hmmm...not the knights, they don't go around here nighttime.
Yup, it's an unidentified third party. Perhaps the beggars have become too greedy, haven't they?" The petite one deduced. It was clear who the mind of the two was.
"Well, everything you say is logical, so it's hard to refute. Not that I had any intention to. But what happens here is not a small matter; although the fire magician was robbed, the only valuable thing he had was the low-level corrupted Fire Magic Crystal. To get another one means to kill another thousand Fire Mages. That would be a hassle, but it is managable." The taller one, though they looked all brawn and no brain, they proved that they were intelligent enough.
"Mmhmm. Well, let's get outta here, the knights would be here pretty soon enough."
And with that, they gradually left. And as they left, a massive crater was formed.
No, it looked more like a pit, a pit to hell.
It looked as if there was no end to the pit, but then, the strange phenomenon cleared up, and now there was a deep pit, deep enough that you would get hurt if you fell, but it didn't look bottomless anymore.
Now the corpses were gone, along with whatever traces there were of a fight.
*
"Sir...what do you think happened here?" Asked a knight clad in silver Armor.
"Looks to me like a fight broke out last night. But...this pit here...I don't think it's because of the fight. Maybe a one sided battle or...a cover up of the traces of the battle. Either that or I don't know. It's not my job to investigate anyway." Replied another knight with a helmet in hand.
These were the patrolling knights of the slums. Perhaps your idea of a knight might be very different from them. They were anything but the knight in shining Armor...
