Descendent of the Moon

Chapter 7: Home Sweet Home

Phoenix's POV:

I pulled up in the long dirt driveway slowly. I look over at my purse sitting on the floorboard. I had completely forgotten about my phone.

I grabbed my purse and dumped its contents after I pulled up and parked. A pit in my stomach grew when the light on my screen lit up.

Nearly 80 missed calls and just as many unread messages.

"Shit," I mumbled, rushing out of the car and into the house. I froze as I saw both of my parents and Noah's panicked faces rushing into the entryway.

My parents' arms quickly squeezed me from both sides.

"We were so scared Phoe, we thought something horrible happened to you! Why weren't you picking up your phone? We were so close to calling the cops!" My mother spoke with tears in her eyes, and it nearly broke me.

"I'm sorry, mama, I didn't want to scare anyone. I got lost driving to meet... Noah... And I got turned around. I... I ... I got home as soon as I could." I rushed out before looking over at Noah's sad expression.

He could always sense when I was lying, and more so when something was wrong to any degree. Knowing this killed me.

"Noah. I'm sorry, I know you had something planned... I... " My words were shaky as I trailed off, touching his arm.

I quickly pulled back and wrapped my arms around myself nervously. My mind went straight to Raphael. His touch, smell, presence, and what it did to my body. The mere thought sent a shiver down my spine.

'You know what you're going to have to do,' Nat whimpering. 'I can't, Nat, I can't...' I responded even though I knew it was a lie.

I stepped back, looking at all of them. Now that I was in my safe space, I felt emotionally and mentally exhausted.

"I'm really tired... Noah, I will see you at school tomorrow. We can talk more then." At that, I moved towards the hallway to my bedroom.

"Wait, Phoe," Noah spoke softly, grabbing my arm and pulling me back.

I looked back at my poor parents, who were already looking at me. Worry etched on their face. My mom tugged on my dad's shirt, telling him to give Noah and me some space. I watched as they retired toward their own bedroom.

"You're different. We need to talk now, please," Noah said after softly pulling me into my room.

We stood there facing each other for several awkward moments. A raw honest communication flowed through us as our eyes remained connected.

How and why does he seem so calm? His heart is steady.

"I can't be with you anymore," I blurted out as tears instantly streamed down my face.

"I think I knew that somehow. I knew something about today was different, but I just wanted to pretend it wasn't." Noah spoke softly, cupping my face before wiping away my tears.

"It's going to be okay Phoe. I will never leave your side, regardless. I promised myself a long time ago that I would always protect you, and I sense that your protection is needed more now than ever before... I'm just not sure why. Phoe, what's going on?" he asked, searching my face for answers.

Answers that I didn't know how to begin to explain or describe. I had been lying to him about who I was ever since I was 10.

It was just like him to put my needs and feelings over his own. This man has spent my entire life making sure I was happy.

His hands had moved down to my shoulders. Holding me steady under his firm grip. I swear I could crumble into pieces without him holding my frame in place.

I leaned forward, my face crashing against his hard chest as everything I was feeling came crashing down.

"Noah..." My voice was low and muffled as I cried into his chest.

"I'm so sorry. I don't know what's happening anymore." I was a complete sobbing mess at this point, but he didn't flinch or stray from me once.

Like the foundation of my existence, he stood there, embracing me while the tornado that is my life and feelings whipped around me chaotically. He remained strong and loyal, soothing me in a way that only he could.

I didn't deserve him.

I would have to tell him everything tomorrow, but for now, I enjoyed his presence while slowly drifting off to sleep.
