Digimon: The Child of Miracles

Chapter 43: -Chapter 43-

...

Booom!

Booom!

Booom!

"Do you think Joe and Ikkakumon will be okay?!" Izzy exclaimed behind my back as Garurumon kept running as fast as he could away quickly from the explosions generated by the collision between Ikkakumon and Nanomon, I could feel the ground shaking from the constant explosions and the lights were starting to flicker madly.

I gritted my teeth hard as I deliberately ignored the question asked by Izzy, we just needed to get to Noah and all this madness would be over. Joe can hold Nanomon for a while before things get ugly.

With that thought in mind I decided to move on.

"Come on Garurumon! We're almost there!" I grunted with effort as I put all my strength into keeping hold of the wolf's fur so I wouldn't fall, I couldn't help but wonder how the hell Izzy and Tentomon could hold on without falling.

Not long after that we finally saw the end of the hallway... and there was no elevator there.

Just a huge electric mesh that blocked the entire hallway restricting access to the other side.

"Izzy-"

"It's a hologram" Izzy interrupted me quickly looking at the map in her hand before shrugging. "Just stop through it, it won't do anything to you."

I looked down at the mesh with an unsure look on my face before looking back up at the little boy. "Are you sure about this?"

"Very sure" Izzy nodded with a roll of his eyes before looking back at Garurumon.

Said wolf gave me a dubious look, clearly not wanting to face the possibility of being severely electrocuted for anything. I simply shrugged my shoulders gesturing for him to wait a moment.

While Izzy's map hadn't failed us so far and I doubted it would now, I wasn't going to take unnecessary risks, especially if those risks included harming Garurumon.

"Fire a flare at the mesh, if it's a hologram it should go right through it" I quickly formulated my thoughts, this was the best way to check whether or not that mesh was real without having to take the risk of harming my partner.

The light blue wolf nodded before taking a deep breath, I could have sworn I saw a flash of joy and relief on his face before a large blue flare erupted from his mouth. "Foxfire!!"

The blue flare rushed towards the mesh, and shot through it as if it had never been there in the first place confirming Izzy's words. Before I could say anything, Garurumon was already giving me a slight nod before running towards the mesh piercing through it with no trouble at all.

I felt the lips on my face lift slightly into a small smile as I didn't feel my body turn into rotisserie chicken. Letting out a small sigh of relief, I signaled Garurumon to continue forward, fortunately we didn't have to go much further.

Although the difference was minimal, we could see a small gap at the end of the corridor, which only meant one thing.

We had reached the elevator.

As if sensing our presence, the platform began to descend slowly down what seemed to be several meters underground. The air seemed to grow colder and the impressive futuristic walls began to disappear to be replaced with rusted metal walls and black vine-like cables. Izzy, Tentomon and I descended from Garurumon as we waited for the elevator to finish its descent.

With a small beep the elevator stopped descending and a large door in front of us slowly opened showing us its gloomy interior.

"What the hell..." I muttered dumbfoundedly as I looked at the mess of a room ahead of me, I think dad's room is tidier than this thing.

The room was full of strange black wires everywhere, literally everywhere, from the floor to the walls to the ceiling. The wires seemed to constantly writhe as if they were some kind of giant snake coiled upon itself to an absurd extent.

However, the highlight of the room was undoubtedly the dozens of monitors displaying figures, symbols and numbers which changed with each passing second. It was a perfect spectacle for any epileptic.

My gaze wandered around the room until I saw a pair of strange chairs made of stone, which were almost completely surrounded by wires and glowed with a faint blue and yellow light.

Leaning on both chairs was a hedgehog-like Digimon, and a slightly dark-haired black-haired boy.

Before he could say anything, Izzy was next to the chair in which the dark-haired boy was resting. "Noah!"

I felt my eyebrows raise slightly before I shrugged, for some reason I was surprised that the boy in the chair was Noah despite being literally the only human I've ever seen in the pyramid.

For some reason, just looking at the kid made me feel annoyed.

'Ugh, I'm just doing this for TK, yeah, I'm just doing it for TK.'

Letting out a grunt, I signaled Garurumon to stay in the elevator as I made my way towards the Digimon trapped in the chair. It only took a couple of steps for a holographic screen to appear in front of me with information from the Digimon.

"Herissmon..." I muttered the Digimon's name as I took a closer look at the hedgehog's figure. Although I couldn't see its full body, I could see how silvery, sharp spikes were growing from its back to its head with some then glowing slightly golden in color.

Although he was almost completely surrounded by wires, I could see his long reddish claws that I instinctively knew not to touch.

I turned my head towards Izzy and Tentomon with a clear question in my head. "So shall we cut these wires?"

"I..." Izzy opened her mouth before closing it with a thoughtful look, her gaze wandering around the room for a few moments before shaking her head unsurely. "I... I wouldn't recommend it, it looks like all these wires are connected to much of the pyramid and could trigger some sort of security protocol or worst case scenario a collapse on us."

"Yeah... I can imagine how this could be a trap" I muttered to myself as I scratched my head and looked down at the teak tree completely filled with wires.

Before I could ask him anything, Izzy had already beaten me to my words as he approached the large mainframe. "I have an idea, but it might take time."

"...I just hope it's quick" I snorted before turning around and walking towards the sleeping brunette beauty. "If what BlackGarurumon and TK told us, then Etemon is not a Digimon with much patience to speak of. I don't want that monkey to face TK and the others."

"This shouldn't take too long, besides, I don't think Etemon is powerful enough to beat them all so easily" Izzy replied with his usual smartass tone, I could hear him start typing on his laptop at a speed that made me wonder if the little boy had more than two hands. "Let's see... the system's capacity is already almost at maximum capacity which limits the speed at which I can charge the power... so if I use the Digivice-"

I watched out of the corner of my eye as Izzy started talking to himself with a raised eyebrow, he reminded me of dad when he got some kind of exclusive interview with some idol. I looked to my side to see that Tentomon was also watching Izzy intently without moving an inch, it was hard to tell what the insect Digimon was feeling as his eyes and expressions were hard to read.

"...Do you understand what he's saying?" I asked curiously as I pointed my finger at Izzy.

The big red insect simply shook its head. "Not at all, but I'm glad to see Izzy doing this stuff! It's very cool! I wonder if he could teach me how to do that thing he does!"

"...Right..." I blinked twice before nodding slowly, not wanting to point out the fact that a keyboard wouldn't work with Tentomon's bug hands or that I'd have to be at least half as smart as Izzy.

I turned my gaze back to the sleeping beauty, Noah.

He all fit the description I had been told, slightly brown skin, black hair and tall, maybe even taller than Joe which was pretty impressive knowing Noah was only 10 years old. I absentmindedly noticed the Digivice flashing slightly a golden color before returning to its original color.

Just thinking that this would have happened to TK if Noah hadn't done baiting for him made my blood burn.

Although I would never admit it out loud, I wasn't just doing this for TK and the others. Dad taught me that I should never owe anyone anything, that every favor should be returned with another favor no matter what or even if the other person doesn't want your favor in the first place.

This was just me returning the favor to Noah for saving TK.

'When I get you out of here my debt will be paid off' I thought to myself inside.

Fortunately, it wasn't long before Izzy let out a little gleeful laugh which let me know that whatever I had done was done.

"Got it! Now just-"

Shudder!
