Chapter 6: Chapter 6: A Small Gamble
But the seeds had only just been sown, and the vegetables were far from ripe; this way of making money clearly wouldn't extinguish the fire at hand, and Ling Zhenfei had to come up with a way to make money quickly!
As he racked his brain, he suddenly thought of his Perspective Eye, and an idea began to take shape in Ling Zhenfei's mind.
He had decided that, after breakfast, he would head to Binyang City and try his luck at a gambling den.
Since ancient times, the quickest way to come into money, and the quickest way to spend it, was gambling!
Though Ling Zhenfei wasn't interested in gambling, he firmly believed that with his eyes that could see through everything, it would be extremely easy to make a fortune in the gambling world, just like picking up something out of one's pocket!
With his plan set, a smile spread across Ling Zhenfei's lips as he took big strides toward home.
But when he had just reached his home, he saw many villagers gathered around his doorstep, all discussing something intensely, pointing towards the house, obviously indicating that something significant had happened.
Standing outside the crowd, Ling Zhenfei heard the sound of his sister-in-law arguing with someone from inside the courtyard.
The voice arguing with his sister-in-law was strangely familiar—it was none other than the village head, Wang Changhe, and Ma Ergou, the village ruffian he had driven off just yesterday.
"Village head, the things missing from my house were found in Zhou Yun's place; she still claims she didn't steal, this is clearly denial! Village head, you must stand up for me!"
Ma Ergou, normally idle in the village and known for his thieving habits, had even been jailed a few times. Now the tables had turned, and he was audaciously accusing Zhou Yun of stealing items from his house.
"Ma Ergou, you're falsely accusing me; I, Zhou Yun, live my life openly and honestly, how could I steal from others?"
His sister-in-law Zhou Yun's voice was filled with indignation as she defended herself to village head Wang Changhe, "Village head, you know what kind of person I am. Please, you must stand up for me and clear my name!"
"Heh, Sister-in-law Zhou, don't worry; I have already called the comrades from the police station, they will get to the bottom of this."
Wang Changhe's tone might have sounded indifferent, but anyone could sense the malice hidden within.
"Hmph, Widow Zhou, if you've stolen, then admit it; don't deny it."
Ma Ergou, too, sneered along, "If you didn't steal, then please tell me, did the items from my house grow legs and walk to your place on their own?"
"You..." Zhou Yun's face turned purple with rage, "Ma Ergou, don't talk nonsense; how would I know how your stuff ended up in my house? You're clearly framing me!"
"Alright, alright, whether it's a frame-up or theft, Zhou Yun, you should come with me to the station. We'll talk after I've investigated the matter!"
As Zhou Yun was arguing non-stop with Ma Ergou, a police officer stepped out, and without a word, began dragging her by the arm towards the outside.
"Exactly, let's see what the situation is; let the police investigate first!" Wang Changhe exchanged a glance with Ma Ergou, who nodded with a malicious grin and started to pull Zhou Yun along as well.
"You... don't you have any sense of reason?" Zhou Yun, unable to break free from their hold, turned to the onlooking villagers, pleading for help.
However, the villagers were still completely dumbfounded, and coupled with the village head and a police officer taking the lead, they hesitated to intervene.
"Everyone, judge for yourselves; I really didn't steal anything! They are deliberately framing me!"
Zhou Yun cried out loudly for help, never having imagined that she would be caught in such an unwarranted disaster!
She had just returned home when Ma Ergou, accompanied by the village head and this police officer, barged into her house.
Ma Ergou claimed that valuable items had been stolen from his home and adamantly accused Zhou Yun of the theft.
Without any discussion, they searched the place and indeed found items belonging to Ma Ergou's household in Zhou Yun's house.
"Stop!"
Just when the police and Ma Ergou were dragging Zhou Yun, and the villagers looked at each other, not knowing what to do, a person suddenly shouted and charged into the courtyard…
This person's speed was as fast as lightning. The moment he rushed in, he kicked Ma Ergou, who was trying to take advantage of Zhou Yun, away.
Then he quickly threw a swing punch, knocking the policeman to the ground.
This scene happened in the blink of an eye, and by the time everyone realized what had happened, Ma Ergou and the policeman were already on the ground, unable to get up.
Zhou Yun, however, was pulled aside by the newcomer and shielded behind him.
The villagers took a closer look and saw that the person was none other than Ling Zhenfei.
"Sister-in-law, don't be afraid of them!" Ling Zhenfei glared at Wang Changhe and Ma Ergou, turning back to comfort Sister-in-law.
As soon as he entered, he knew this was a scheme hatched by the village chief Wang Changhe and Ma Ergou to frame his sister-in-law. The purpose was naturally to get revenge for his injuring Wang Changhe's son Wang Quan yesterday.
As for that policeman, Ling Zhenfei saw at a glance that he was a fake.
In fact, this guy was indeed too obvious in his pretense, not even bothering to wear a complete uniform, simply donning a security guard's outfit to pose as a cop.
Although the villagers couldn't tell the difference between a security uniform and a police uniform, Ling Zhenfei, having spent two years in high school in the city, could tell at a glance.
"Ling Zhenfei, you've got some nerve, daring to hit a cop!"
As soon as Ling Zhenfei appeared, he knocked down the policeman and Ma Ergou, which infuriated Wang Changhe, who charged forward, bellowing.
Ling Zhenfei's guess was completely correct. Wang Changhe was furious that Ling Zhenfei had crippled his son's lineage, dooming the Wang Family to a future without descendants.
But he didn't dare to openly trouble Ling Zhenfei, so he concocted this framing plot overnight, planning to start with Zhou Yun.
Wang Changhe had thought everything was going according to his plan, but he didn't expect Ling Zhenfei to be so troublesome, starting a fight without asking questions!
"Damn it, you little scoundrel, daring to assault the police, I'll blow your head off with one shot!"
The fake policeman, who was a thug brought in by Wang Changhe, had been somewhat dazed by Ling Zhenfei's sudden move.
Upon hearing Wang Changhe's words, the thug immediately snapped back to reality, grew bolder, and started shouting as he got up. Pulling out a fake toy gun from his waist, he aimed it at Ling Zhenfei's head.
Ah!
Seeing the policeman was about to fire, the simple villagers around instantly changed their expression, some cried out in shock, while others wanted to intervene.
"Don't shoot! This has nothing to do with my brother-in-law, I'll go with you if it's necessary!"
Zhou Yun, deeply concerned, stood in front of Ling Zhenfei with a pale face. Now that Ling Zhenfei had become the mainstay of the family, she didn't want him to get hurt at all.
"Sister-in-law, uncles, please step back. Today, I really want to see how this fake cop with a fake gun is going to shoot me dead," said Ling Zhenfei.
While everyone else was tense with worry, Ling Zhenfei remained as composed as if he were strolling leisurely in a garden. The cold sharpness in his eyes exploded as he calmly walked through the crowd, advancing step by step towards the fake policeman.
"This... I... how did you know..."
When the fake policeman was glared at by the piercing gaze in Ling Zhenfei's eyes, he was immediately frightened to his core, his expression drastically changing as he stepped back. Out of fear, he wasn't even able to hold the gun steady without shaking.
