Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Woman Dressed as Man
A crowd had gathered around the table, and Ling Zhenfei squeezed in to see that a few gamblers were playing the Card Game, and they were playing for high stakes.
The table was covered with unabashedly red banknotes, and the gamblers' eyes were even redder than the money!
The dealer was a young man with Little Beard, dressed in a white suit and wearing a flat cap.
He was about twenty years old, not very tall, but rather handsome, with a calm and composed expression. He sat there like a Buddha, shuffling and dealing cards.
Little Beard looked serene but was incredibly lucky, always managing to draw a strong hand, either a bomb or a Straight Flush, and at the very least, a Mixed Flush.
Within just a few rounds, the money from all the gamblers in the room had piled up in front of him.
The onlooking gamblers were visibly stunned by Little Beard's luck, and the crowd of spectators grew larger and larger.
Little Beard seemed to deliberately cultivate an air of mystery; every time he looked at his cards, he would assume an odd expression, as if afraid of being seen, pressing his cards tightly to the table.
Then, he would peel back a corner of his cards with one hand while shielding the faces with the other, and when he revealed his cards, it would invariably elicit a gasp from the spectators.
The crowd was bewildered by Little Beard's confusing handling of the cards, but Ling Zhenfei, endowed with the Perspective Divine Eye, could clearly see that the guy was Cheating in Gambling all along.
It was just that his technique was so refined, he deceived everyone's eyes.
What made Ling Zhenfei feel both amused and frustrated was that through the Perspective Divine Eye, he clearly saw that this Little Beard was not a man at all but a woman in disguise.
But how could such external disguises escape Ling Zhenfei's Perspective Divine Eye?
Knowing this person was a woman in disguise made Ling Zhenfei even more interested, and he couldn't help but focus his attention more on Little Beard.
Ling Zhenfei had previously worked as a waiter in various gambling dens and had encountered many masters of Cheating Techniques, so he had some understanding of various cheating methods.
In fact, gambling, frankly, the skill involved is all an illusion; it's all about luck.
Unfortunately, luck is intangible and hard to control.
Therefore, cheating became the best method for gamblers to win money.
The main reason why Little Beard, disguised as a man, always drew such good cards was her technique in shuffling.
Little Beard was clearly a proficient cheater, her fingers nimble and delicate, seemingly more sensitive than her eyes.
By shuffling the cards on the table twice, she could remember the biggest cards in her hand using a card-finding technique and deal these cards to herself.
For instance, if she had two spades in her hand from previous rounds, she would first cut the deck to remember those two cards, then quickly locate the other spades in the deck, remembering the biggest one among them.
Even if she shuffled the cards randomly, when it came to dealing, the cards in her hand would definitely be the biggest Straight Flush.
Little Beard was enjoying the game immensely, while Ling Zhenfei stood by, watching indifferently, feeling utterly disdainful inside.
Although he knew that gambling was mostly deceptive, he was not a gambler himself and, naturally, he disdained Cheating Techniques even more.
In gambling houses, everyone fears cheats; while gamblers are on guard against other gamblers cheating, the establishments are wary of their patrons cheating.
Even in this makeshift gambling stall, the situation was no different.
Little Beard was winning big and didn't notice that the gambling stall owner was silently frowning.
Watching Little Beard win over a million in just the first half of the morning, with every gambler at her table losing money, if they let her continue, who would dare come to their gambling stall?
The gambling den owner knew this guy couldn't possibly be that lucky and knew he was cheating but couldn't catch him, which annoyed him greatly. He secretly signaled to his men.
It was clear, they couldn't allow such a troublemaker to stick around. They were getting ready to make a move on Little Beard!
Ling Zhenfei didn't miss the reaction of Little Beard and the gambling den owner.
He let out a cold laugh and walked towards the currently winning Little Beard.
Ling Zhenfei's purpose in entering the gambling den was to win some money. He didn't even want to win much—just about two hundred thousand would suffice.
Given the current situation, most of the money in the gambling den had ended up in Little Beard's pocket. If he wanted to make some profit, he needed to start with this guy!
"Hold on!"
As a few bouncers were about to deploy a plan to throw Little Beard out after getting the hint from the gambling den owner, the boss suddenly saw Ling Zhenfei step up to the table and was briefly stunned, promptly stopping his men.
"Boss, what's going on?" the bouncers asked, baffled.
"Don't rush into action. Let's see how it plays out first!" Watching Ling Zhenfei, who sat across from Little Beard with a calm expression, the gambling den owner's face grew complex.
Everyone knew that Little Beard was incredibly lucky in gambling. Anyone who gambled with him ended up losing everything.
And yet this young man dared to step forward. If this young man wasn't a fool, he must be exceptionally skilled!
Thinking this, the gambling den owner's eyes blazed with intensity...
Little Beard had cheated in several hands and was winning a fortune, extremely pleased with himself.
Seeing that no one dared to gamble with him anymore, Little Beard was just about to collect his money and leave when he suddenly saw Ling Zhenfei sitting in front of him. The smile on his face instantly froze.
"Kid, you want to gamble with me?" his eyes intensely fixed on Ling Zhenfei, Little Beard's eyes filled with disbelief.
"Exactly!"
Ling Zhenfei confrontationally met his gaze, his tone steady and even slightly contemptuous: "Heh, I have a bad habit. Though my gambling skills aren't great, I just love to play a few rounds with someone as lucky as you!"
After speaking, Ling Zhenfei provocatively swept his gaze over the stack of bills in front of Little Beard and wiped his nose with his hand.
"Kid, are your hairs long enough to think about winning my money?"
Clearly irritated by Ling Zhenfei's provocation, Little Beard deliberately picked up a stack of bills in front of him and weighed it in front of Ling Zhenfei, showing his disdain.
"Heh, people come to a gambling den naturally hoping to win a few games."
Ling Zhenfei seemed not to notice the scorn, his eyes quickly moving from Little Beard to the stack of money, he laughed: "I don't want much, just two hundred thousand from you, and I'll leave right away!"
"Hmph, arrogant! Do you know who I am, kid? You think you can win money from me?"
Little Beard rolled his eyes at Ling Zhenfei, showing great dissatisfaction with this sudden challenger.
"I don't care who you are. I only know that some of this money in front of you will be mine. Uh, or rather, all of it…" Ling Zhenfei once again wiped his nose.
"You…" Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Little Beard was infuriated to be looked down upon by this unknown young man.
But he quickly suppressed his anger, staring intently at Ling Zhenfei, and in a fit of pique laughed: "Hahaha, good! Very good! As long as you have the capability, if you win it from me, I'll hand over the money gladly!"
