Chapter 56
Chapter 56 Who Exactly is this ‘Boss Lu’? Do You Know Him?
“See this?”
Amy proudly showed off her phone to Lu Qin. “Here’s my photo with Li Xue, her ID card, her WeChat — with voice messages, videos, and even demos of her new songs…”
“If I weren’t really Li Xue’s manager, would I have all this information?” She asked, a bit defensively.
“Still not convinced? Want to see some of Li Xue’s private photos?”
Lu Qin quickly shook his head, embarrassed. “No need. I believe you. You’re definitely her manager.”
He hadn’t meant to doubt her, it was just a reflex. After all, if someone randomly approached them on the street claiming to be a celebrity’s manager, who wouldn’t be skeptical?
Seeing Lu Qin finally convinced, Amy nodded in satisfaction.
“So, you’re in luck today. Getting an autograph or even a photo is no big deal.”
“Oh, thank you so much!” Lu Qin quickly expressed his gratitude.
“But there’s one condition.”
“Uh… what condition?” He asked cautiously.
“I want to try your fried noodles and ice jelly. And I’ve heard about your famous chicken tofu pudding — both Li Xue and I want to taste it.”
“No problem, that’s an easy request. But unfortunately, I’ve sold out of everything. I’d have to go back and restock.”
Amy sighed, “Yeah, I know. I stood in line for 20 minutes, and right when I got close, you packed up and left.”
Lu Qin’s food was clearly in high demand.
Amy grabbed his arm and said, “No rush. Let’s wait until after Li Xue’s performance. We can go together.”
“That might not work… I need to pick up my daughter by 5:30.”
“5:30? Don’t worry, you’ve got plenty of time,” Amy insisted and ushered Lu Qin to the VIP front row, where the immersive sound system filled the air.
On stage, Li Xue was dressed in a fresh, blue-and-white printed dress, her face beaming with a sweet smile. Her charming presence captivated everyone.
Lu Qin, who had never attended a concert or music festival before, was genuinely impressed. The atmosphere was electric, with countless young fans screaming.
“Li Xue, I love you!”
Even in the back, there was a middle-aged man in his 40s with a large round face covered in Li Xue stickers, shouting hoarsely, “Li Xue, my wife, I love you!”
This left Lu Qin speechless.
“Birds flying across the blue sky~”
“Gazing down at joyful faces~”
“Bright plants reaching for the sun~”
“Embracing tomorrow’s light~”
Li Xue’s pure, melodic voice echoed around him, and the upbeat song lifted everyone’s spirits. She truly had an amazing voice. Lu Qin took out his phone and snapped several photos, recording a few short videos. He couldn’t help but feel a bit regretful that his daughter wasn’t here to see this up close. She would have been overjoyed.
On stage, Li Xue sang and danced with energy. Her sharp eyes noticed Lu Qin in the crowd — his handsome face stood out and was hard to miss. After performing three songs, Li Xue took a break.
The host seized the opportunity to promote.
“Dive into the world of great stories at Feilu Novels! Recharge now and enjoy a 20% discount. Go, go, go!”
The crowd’s excitement waned during the break. Some people turned to their phones, others ate snacks. The young man sitting next to Lu Qin started scrolling through Douyin and came across a video in the local feed. It showed a group of kids at Starlight Kindergarten bawling their eyes out because they didn’t get any meat during lunch.
The video’s title read—“Handsome young dad’s culinary skills drive all the kids to tears with jealousy!”
The video included clips of the kids devouring meat, and even through the screen, one could tell that the twice-cooked pork was incredibly aromatic. The video had over 10k likes and 3,000 comments.
Intrigued, the young man gave it a like and opened the comment section.
[Damn! That’s Boss Lu, right? He went to the kindergarten to cook lunch for his daughter and ended up making all the other kids cry!] [Isn’t that the twice-cooked pork? I waited in line for three days and still didn’t get any! Damn it!] [Boss Lu is such a doting father — definitely a 10/10 dad!] [Wait, that’s my husband~!] [Nope, that’s my fiancé~!] [I got my hands on the chicken tofu pudding at Tianhong Plaza today, hehehe!] [image.jpg] [Wow! Boss Lu looks so handsome when he cooks!] [I only eat Boss Lu’s food now. Everything else just makes me cough!] [Is Boss Lu a five-star chef? Even his fried noodles taste out of this world!] [I’ve tried five-star restaurant versions of twice-cooked pork, but nothing beats Boss Lu’s!]
Curious, the young man elbowed the person next to him and asked, “Hey, bro, who exactly is this ‘Boss Lu’? Do you know him?”
Lu Qin turned his head, looking puzzled.
“?”
“Do you know him or not?”
The young man, noticing the person beside him wasn’t responding, asked again. He looked up and glanced at Lu Qin. Something about him seemed familiar…
Wait a minute.
The young man’s eyes widened as he silently raised his phone, comparing the man in the video with the person sitting next to him…
It was him.
The realization left the young man stunned. What are the odds?
“Is it really you?”
“It’s me.”
“Holy crap!”
“…”
“Fried noodles? Twice-cooked pork? Chicken tofu pudding? I want to buy some!”
“Sorry, it’s all sold out,” Lu Qin replied.
“…”
“Well, would you like to join our Penguin chat group? I’ll notify everyone about my next food stall location.”
“Absolutely!” The young man quickly pulled out his phone, eager to join.
Before he could finish, Li Xue returned to the stage.
“It’s truly a pleasure to be here in Jiangcheng. The river view is stunning, the people are so lovely, and I absolutely adore the local cuisine!” She said with a charming smile.
“For my final performance, I’d like to invite an audience member to sing a duet with me. How about it?”
“Yeah–!!!” The crowd erupted in cheers.
“Alright! I’ll randomly choose someone from the audience!”
Li Xue’s sparkling eyes scanned the crowd, then landed on Lu Qin in the front row.
“You, handsome guy in the front row! Come up on stage!” She said with a playful wink.
Suddenly, all eyes turned to Lu Qin. Eight cameras were now pointed directly at him. Lu Qin was caught completely off guard. Before he could process what was happening, Li Xue had already made her way to the edge of the stage, locking eyes with him. A staff member quickly shoved a microphone into his hand.
Lu Qin awkwardly waved his hands in protest. “Uh, sorry… I can’t sing. Could you maybe pick someone else?”
The surrounding audience, especially the guys, started shouting:
“Dude, are you crazy? Why would you say no? Get up there!”
“Even if you can’t sing, just go up and scream a few lines! How often do you get the chance to perform with Li Xue on stage? And on TV, no less!”
“Yeah, seriously!”
“If you don’t want to, let me take your place! Give me the mic!”
“Let me up there! I’m the Karaoke King of Jiangcheng!”
…
Li Xue held her microphone, smiling sweetly at Lu Qin.
“Come on, handsome. Your voice sounds great, so I bet you sing well too. Don’t be shy, come on up!”
Before he knew it, the young man beside him gave him a push, forcing Lu Qin to his feet. He was sweating nervously, feeling like he had no choice but to go along with it.
Reluctantly, Lu Qin walked up to the stage, with the crowd cheering and clapping enthusiastically. There were even jealous shouts and whistles from the audience.
As he and Li Xue reached the center of the stage, the noise gradually quieted down.
With a smile, Li Xue asked, “Handsome, what’s your name?”
“Lu Qin.”
“Mr. Lu, what songs do you know how to sing?”
After thinking for a moment, Lu Qin slowly answered.
“Children’s songs.”
The crowd burst into laughter.
