Chapter 16.1
Thousands of years, but in fact, what the scholar thought of was only twenty years at most.
There was a saying in the book that beauty fades, but love lags behind. In at least twenty years, a person’s appearance would grow old, and by then, all those alliances and oaths of never leaving would be in vain.
So, what the scholar imagined was that the snake demon would spend twenty years with him, which was considered a long-term relationship for him. He had never thought that the snake demon would do more things because of him.
A few days later, the scholar looked at the shed skin on his legs and fell into deep thought.
He looked at Xuan Si, who was slapping the ground with his snake tail, and the latter looked back in a good mood, as if he hadn’t noticed anything strange about his behaviour at all.
Ever since they had sex a few days ago, the scholar’s skin had begun to peel off here and there. At first, the scholar thought it was because the weather was too dry after spring, causing some chapped skin, but later he realized something was wrong.
An ordinary person would definitely have been injured if they were entangled like that for five or six hours. However, now he only needed to sleep for a while and was able to get up and walked around.
When he first woke up after their first time, he almost had no strength in his body. He fell to the ground after taking a few steps and could not stand up. He only felt that something was on his body, and it was uncomfortable and tight.
Back then, Xuan Si carefully lifted him up, he carried him to the edge of the pond. As if treating his cherished collection, he scooped up the pond water and helped him clean the place where his tail tip had swum.
After he was washed clean, Xuan Si wiped his body with a long towel, but the uncomfortable feeling was still there. After that, his skin had begun to peel off, falling in pieces here and there, and he picked at it again and again. It wasn’t done at all; it just made people uncomfortable to watch.
“You… explain?” The scholar sat beside the bed and looked up at Xuan Si.
Xuan Si patted the ground with his snake tail and hissed.
The thick and long snake tail was covered with hard black scales. When it slapped the ground, people couldn’t help but fear and wonder how the skin would be torn apart if the tail slapped the body. But every time Xuan Si came to slap him, he was very gentle. Despite being a cunning and cold snake demon, after getting to know him closely, he wasn’t scary at all.
The scholar was no longer afraid of Xuan Si’s tricks.
“Are you lying to me again?” The scholar tightened his clothes. “You think I’m easy to bully, and you’re just bullying me.”
“Wife…” Xuan Si was about to swim over.
“Don’t come over,” the scholar said, trying to maintain a strong momentum. “Unless you tell me the reason, otherwise, you will stay in the corner from now on and not bother me again.”
“No,” Xuan Si quickly objected.
“You know you can’t say no to this. Why don’t you explain to me what is going on?” The scholar looked angry, even the ends of his eyes were a little red, but he didn’t know whether he was angry or anxious. He waited for a while, and seeing that Xuan Si still didn’t answer, he simply picked up the barrel next to him and smashed it over.
But he didn’t dare to hit Xuan Si, so he just threw it against the rock wall next to him.
“It’s all your fault, you… you beast!”
“Wife, don’t be angry.” Xuan Si wrapped his snake’s tail around the barrel, put it on the ground, and then hugged him with his hands. “I am a beast.”
“…”
“My wife sheds his skin and gets irritable, I know.” Xuan Si hugged him and patted his back soothingly with his palms. “My wife is angry, so tell me, and I will comfort her.”
The scholar slapped Xuan Si’s hand away angrily and hit Xuan Si’s chest hard with his head.
“I have grown nine snake scales on my body, nine! Now I can even shed my skin.” The scholar tried hard to look fierce. “I didn’t want to go back to the village, but I didn’t say… I didn’t say I wanted to change… to be like this.”
“My wife doesn’t want to grow snake scales?”
“No way!”
“Snakes all have scales,” Xuan Si said slowly, then moved closer to him. “Shuye also has scales.”
“I don’t want to be a snake.”
The scholar was inexplicably shaken by him.
He was a human, and he didn’t want to turn into a snake. Just like although he found Xuan Si’s half-monster appearance a bit scary, he had never said that he wanted Xuan Si to completely turn into a human.
One of them was a human and the other was a monster. There was no need to force the other person to accommodate him just because the other person’s appearance was different from his own race. If that was the case, he would rather have everything go back to the way it was at the beginning than have one of them be bound by change.
He looked up at Xuan Si, wondering if Xuan Si could understand.
