Doomsday: My Football System In The Apocalypse

Chapter 7: The Football System

"At first, when I saw it on the altar, I didn't understand what it was. I just saw some text in my line of sight, shining brightly. I didn't get to read the content because I was distracted by the man on the platform. And since then, the text never showed up again, until..."

Emmy paused, making his brother lean forward in curiosity. His gaze was sharp and unwavering, clearly urging him to continue.

Emmy shrugged and continued.

"Until I got into that room with the others and that man. You know, I told you everyone around me started falling down as soon as we got into that room with him. I was the one who fell last. But before that, the shimmering text appeared again."

"It said something like I was being affected by a toxic sleeping smoke and I didn't have enough resistance against it—that I would pass out if I inhaled any further. That's when I eventually fell and passed out."

Sunny suddenly stood up, staring at him.

"Wait... you saw some shimmering text in your sight, like a screen of some sort?"

Emmy nodded, which made his brother's lips curl up. His eyes widened as he exclaimed,

"A system... it's a system! You've awakened a system!"

Sunny began jumping up happily, like someone who had just won the jackpot. Meanwhile, Emmy had a troubled look on his face.

"A system? That only exists in fantasy novels,"

He said.

"Idiot, what about our abilities? Isn't that something that exists in the same fantasy novels as well?"

His brother replied, still smiling happily.

"But have you seen or heard of anyone who awakened a system before?"

Emmy asked, still confused.

"What about my own ability? Have you ever seen or heard of anyone in possession of it before? The Tower has clearly chosen us by giving us something different,"

His brother said, beaming with excitement.

Emmy slightly shook his head.

"But still, why did the organizers not know that I've awakened something?"

This time, Sunny yelled at him in frustration.

"How does that matter?" Sunny shouted, clearly annoyed. "Just summon the damn system and let's see what it has to offer!"

Emmy lowered his head and said,

"I don't know how to."

Sunny groaned.

"Ah, this dumb brother of mine. Don't you read those system novels the most? Try something out, for f*ck's sake!"

"Okay, calm down, will you? I'll try something."

Trying to calm himself, Emmy took a deep breath and thought,

'System interface.'

And then, a light blue system screen appeared in his line of sight, with different characters shimmering on it.

"Oh wow, it appeared on my first try,"

He said happily. He had thought he'd have to try countless times before it appeared, but surprisingly, it worked on the first try.

"Yeah, go through it, quickly,"

Sunny said, his anticipation growing.

Emmy slowly scanned the system with his eyes. There were different characters shimmering on it that looked like notifications, so he decided to check the first one.

[Congratulations, you have been granted the Football System.]

"Huh? A football system? Peak,"

Emmy said with a smirk, making his brother's curiosity grow further.

[Host analysis beginning.]

[Analysis complete.]

[Host data has been updated.]

[Host's career is compatible with the system.]

[Host talent is compatible with the system]

[Host can now explore the system.]

[Go to the main menu for the system's other functions.]

The notifications ended there, and Emmy wasted no time giving a command. The main menu popped up immediately. There were five different characters on the main menu, each with a tab below it, indicating more options.

[Personal Data] [Attributes] [Skills and Abilities] [Store] [Quest Panel]

Each of these characters had more to them, and all Emmy needed to do was think about the one he wanted to check for it to pop up. He opened Personal Data first.

[Name: Emmy Krane]

[Age: 15]

[Race: Human]

[Level: 1]

[Exp: 0/100]

[HP: 100]

[EP: 0]

'Zero Energy Points? Does that mean I won't be able to use the system?'

He thought.

Energy Points (EP) are the fuel that powers one's ability. Without EP, the ability would be useless. There's a certain amount granted when a person first awakens, and it increases as they level up.

If someone runs out of EP, their ability stops working—just like how a person becomes useless when they run out of physical energy. Emmy, seeing that he had zero EP, thought he wouldn't be able to use the system for now. Nevertheless, he continued his exploration.

The next in line was Attributes.

<>

[Strength: 10]

[Stamina: 10]

[Agility: 5]

[Speed: 15]

[Perception: 5]

[Endurance: 0]

[Resistance: 0]

[Attribute Points: 0]

Emmy had always been great with his speed, so he expected this. As a footballer who always played on the front line, speed was his greatest weapon.

<>

[Skills: None]

[Innate Abilities: Ability to speak, hear, see, smell, walk, and breathe.]

[Awakened Ability: None]

'Huh? How do those count as abilities? Speaking, hearing, and everything else is what anybody could do. What the f*ck?'

It seemed the system was teasing him. Why did it count all those as abilities? And what's with the Awakened Ability line?

'Wait, does that mean I can still awaken an ability?'

His lips curled into a smirk as he thought about attending the awakening ceremony again next year. Sunny, seeing the smile on his brother's lips, couldn't help but smile as well.

Emmy continued.

<> Locked

[Unlock at Level 10.]

'That's a lot. Does that mean I won't be able to get any items from the system until I get to Level 10? How many years would that take?'

Now, there was only one character tab left on the menu—the one he was reluctant to open but had no choice. As it's often said, nothing in life comes without a cost. He knew that before gaining the system's power, there would be a price to pay. He just hoped it wouldn't be too tough.

<>

He took a deep breath before opening it.

{Daily Quest: Speed and Agility.}

{Daily Quests will be updated every week.}

[Quest: Run a couple hundred meters sprint.]

[Reward: +2 Speed Points.]

[Quest: Jog 200 kilometers.]

[Reward: +1 Stamina Point, +1 Speed Point.]

[Quest: Run back and forth between 10-20 yards, changing direction quickly for 10 minutes.]

[Reward: +2 Speed Points, +2 Agility Points.]

[Reward at the end of the week: 10 Attribute Points.]

Emmy had no problem with the daily quests, since they were all related to football. He would do anything for football. And luckily, this week's quests focused on agility and speed. By the end of the week, his speed would have increased incredibly.

"Now I won't have to worry about someone finding out that I don't have an ability,"

He said.

"I can see that you're happy. Now tell me—what is it?"

Sunny asked, finally sitting next to him.

Emmy started explaining what he had seen in the system to his brother, not leaving out any details. Sunny listened with his mouth wide open in awe.

"I'm sure there'll be more rewards in the future that'll take my skills to a godly level. I just can't wait," Emmy said excitedly.

"Now you should really think about learning martial arts. You could become the strongest, just like those MCs from novels,"

Sunny suggested.

Emmy shook his head immediately.

"No, let's not talk about that right now. When is grandfather coming?"

"I thought you didn't want to see him before. Don't tell me you're eager now,"

Sunny teased.

"You know he's my only ticket into the school team,"

Emmy replied.

Just then, the door slid open. A middle-aged man in his late forties walked in. He wore an ancient red robe with a yellow scarf hanging across his shoulder. His long black hair flowed freely, and a single twisted beard could be seen on his jaw. His sharp, gentle eyes and parallel nose gave him a regal appearance.

"Were you guys talking about me?"

The man asked as he entered with a warm smile.

"Huh... grandfather?"

"Old man."

Both Emmy and Sunny said at the same time, hiding their displeasure and hatred under a facade of excitement.

On a normal basis, he's always met with cold faces, anger and displeasure, they don't always welcome him anytime he came to visit, even sometimes with gifts. But really, the man didn't really do anything to offend them, they are just being childish. The grudge and hatred they have towards him is all but childish.

Sunny dislike him from the start because of the harsh training he had put him through while he was on the mountain with him, the man didn't even treat him like his grandchild back then, he treats him no different from other disciples, not even a single special treatment was given to him, so Sunny had always hated him.

While Emmy on other hand, well, let's just say because of the different stories he had heard from his brother, and because the man wanted to take them under his wings. So he also dislike him to some extent.

But it was all but childish.

The man himself seemed taken aback from the way he was welcome today, it's strange.

He look at Sunny, seeing the large grin on his face, he look at Emmy, the same thing could be seen on his face. His heart thump and his face has gone a slight shade of red.

'What's wrong with this children, they're making me feel shy.'

He cleared his throat and said.

"What's with you guys today? I can see that you failed to awaken an ability but you look happy instead of being sad. Are you perhaps ready to be my disciple? Did you finally let go of football?"
