Chapter 199: 195. Her Responsibility
Qian Renxue raised her hand, and the pen and paper under the bed floated into her hand.
After examining them briefly, she ordered, "Make a copy for me when we get back."
As her words fell, the items in her hand flew back toward Ling Yuan.
"Yes, Miss," Ling Yuan sighed in relief.
She gently set down the bed, then reached out to collect the flying pen and paper.
"Come have a cup of water," Qian Renxue said, sitting at the table and pouring water into a cup.
"Thank you, Miss," Ling Yuan responded gratefully.
She bent down to pick up the glowing pearl, wiping it with her sleeve.
After lying under the bed for so long, she was indeed a bit thirsty.
Qian Renxue sipped her tea, seemingly savoring the presence of Qian Renjue.
Suddenly, her brow furrowed, the thrill from spying fading away.
Looking at Ling Yuan sitting nearby, she asked softly, "Ling Yuan, do you think Jue has feelings for her?"
Ling Yuan paused mid-sip, then slowly shook her head after some thought. "Miss, I don't know."
Qian Renxue seemed not to hear, or perhaps she already knew the answer.
She muttered quietly, "I know Jue. Even if he hasn't developed feelings, it's only a matter of time."
After all, this was his first close interaction with a woman.
Inevitably, it would leave a huge impression on him.
"This... feels uncomfortable. If only time could slow down," Qian Renxue leaned on her hand.
The thought of Qian Renjue being shared with another woman made her uncharacteristically melancholic. "How can a sister not meet her sister-in-law?" She mused.
"I'll have to handle this as a sister."
Ling Yuan listened quietly, not daring to speak.
She had the sense that what Qian Renxue intended to do was more in line with what a nobleman's wife or main consort would do.
---
Meanwhile, Qian Renjue had no idea that his first romantic encounter had taken place under the watchful eyes of others.
At the moment, he was walking shoulder-to-shoulder with Ye Lingling, both of them silent but occasionally stealing glances at each other.
Upon leaving the Heaven Treasure Inn, Qian Renjue helped Ye Lingling into her carriage.
"Be careful."
"Thank you," Ye Lingling said, her arm resting on Qian Renjue's hand as she stepped into the carriage.
From her higher position, she gazed down at Qian Renjue, her blue eyes clear but still shy. "Thank you for the Kirin Golden Pill."
"No need for thanks. Consider it a small token of apology," Qian Renjue replied, carefully releasing her hand.
After a moment of hesitation, he awkwardly added, "Lingling, I'll try to make time to visit you more often."
Ye Lingling bit her pink lips, her heart fluttering.
His words hinted at a desire to pursue a relationship, something she didn't reject and even secretly looked forward to.
During their brief time together, she hadn't found anything to dislike.
Her veil fluttered as her lips parted slightly.
In a shy tone, she whispered, "I'll wait for you. See you next time, Your Highness."
Her long lashes blinked as her gaze softened.
She then turned and disappeared into the carriage.
Qian Renjue opened his mouth, wanting to correct her use of "Your Highness," but swallowed the words back down.
"Alright, see you."
His voice, laced with spirit power, softly penetrated her mind, carrying a strong but gentle force.
Inside the carriage, Ye Lingling pressed her hands to her flushed cheeks.
The slight jolt of the carriage made her peek out from the window, where she saw Qian Renjue still watching her leave.
Once the carriage was out of sight, Qian Renjue turned to walk toward Dugu Xin's carriage.
Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks, sensing an almost imperceptible gaze observing him.
His eyes sharpened as he turned toward the entrance of Heaven Treasure Inn, locking eyes with the doorman.
The doorman, caught under Qian Renjue's gaze, hunched his back and quickly bowed while leading another guest inside.
Despite the gesture, he still threw occasional glances at Qian Renjue.
"Whose eyes were those?" Qian Renjue muttered.
He was well aware that he wasn't a nobody in Heaven Dou City, so being recognized was no surprise.
Considering that Dugu Bo was now serving the Heaven Dou Empire, Qian Renjue made a quick decision.
Instead of walking toward Dugu Xin, he blended into the bustling street, mingling with the crowd.
Realizing that Heaven Treasure Inn belonged to the royal family and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan, he figured out who was observing him.
---
Back at the Dugu Residence, it was just time for lunch.
Hearing that Qian Renxue had gone out, Qian Renjue didn't think much of it and sat down to eat.
"Brother, try this. It's really tasty," Hu Liena said, offering him a dish.
"Your Highness, let me cool it for you," Dugu Yan chimed in.
"Brothee, I'll open this abalone for you," Hu Liena insisted.
"The abalone she's offering isn't as good. Eat this one,"Dugu Yan retorted.
Qian Renjue propped his head up, indifferent to the two girls' eager attempts to please him.
He felt a headache coming on and secretly wished they would start fighting instead of fussing over him.
At this point, Qian Renjue had no doubt that if he opened his mouth, he would be instantly overwhelmed with food.
Opposite him, Dugu Bo and the others were quietly eating their own meals, staying out of the commotion.
Eventually, looking at the pile of food in his bowl, Qian Renjue sighed and pushed it away. "Alright, you two, I'm full. You can finish this yourselves."
Qian Renjue burped contentedly as Dugu Yan and Hu Liena gently massaged his back, obediently retrieving their own offerings from his bowl.
"Senior Brother, when are we going shopping? You promised, remember?" Hu Liena asked softly, using her sleeve to dab at the corner of his lips.
Qian Renjue smiled and patted her head. "Don't worry, I won't break my promise. We'll go later."
"Thank you, Senior Brother!" Hu Liena's eyes lit up as she leaned in closer, overjoyed.
Dugu Yan, meanwhile, was eating quietly but curiously asked, "Your Highness, how are things going with Lingling?"
"Uh, not bad," Qian Renjue's expression turned odd as he recalled his interaction with Ye Lingling.
His eyes shifted, and his voice was awkward.
"Not bad?" Dugu Yan didn't quite understand.
Hu Liena gripped Qian Renjue's sleeve, fearing that her brother would distance himself from her.
"At least I won't have to trouble you to write letters for me anymore," Qian Renjue chuckled, pinching Dugu Yan's cheek and wiping away the food crumbs from the corner of her mouth, pushing it back into her lips.
"Th-thank you, Your Highness," Dugu Yan blushed, her head lowering as she licked the corner of her lips clean.
Just as Hu Liena was about to say something, the room brightened.
"Senior Brother, Sister Ling Yuan is back," she reminded.
