Chapter 107: Chapter 107: The City of Slaughter
Yang Podi entered the black vortex, stepping into a strange world.
In this world, his senses dulled significantly, and everything around him was shrouded in darkness.
Yang Podi carefully assessed his surroundings, finding himself seemingly in a tunnel. Ahead, a path stretched forward, but its end remained obscured.
Without hesitation, he began walking along the road. Eventually, a light appeared before him, leading him into a unique realm.
This world was unlike any he had seen on Douluo Continent. The entire landscape was shrouded in darkness, devoid of natural light, with only a crimson moon in the sky casting its blood-red glow over the terrain. However, the faint illumination made the world appear blurry and indistinct.
The air was devoid of life, filled instead with a chilling, deathly stillness, like the breath of hell itself.
Soon, a group of knights appeared before Yang Podi—101 in total. Among them, one knight stood out, his armor and demeanor indicating he was their leader.
The knights all rode black horses, their bodies encased in pitch-black armor, and even their weapons matched in color.
The leading knight approached Yang Podi swiftly on horseback, halting in front of him.
"Outsider, welcome to the City of Slaughter. To become one of us, you must pass my test."
Yang Podi's expression was cold. "What test?"
"Defeat me."
Before the knight could react, Yang Podi summoned his Breaking Soul Spear and thrust it forward with immense power.
The knight raised his weapon to block, but the force behind the spear was overwhelming, shattering his defense. The spear's tip stopped just at the knight's throat, threatening to end his life at any moment.
"Don't waste my time. You're too weak."
Without sparing another glance, Yang Podi bypassed the knight and continued toward the distant castle.
The knight, shaken, quickly regained his senses and called out, "Wait a moment!"
"What? Do you wish to die?"
"No, you misunderstand." The knight's tone carried fear. "Congratulations on becoming a member of the City of Slaughter. Here's your identification. Present it at the city gates, and someone will guide you further."
He handed over a token, marked with a skull and the number 8868. Yang Podi accepted it and walked toward the gates without looking back.
The city gates were imposing and pitch-black, radiating an oppressive aura. Above the gates, four blood-red characters spelled out "City of Slaughter."
Yang Podi summoned his martial soul, only to find that all his spirit rings had turned gray, their power sealed by a mysterious force.
Before he could step through the gates, a woman veiled in black emerged, her voice melodious. "Welcome to the City of Slaughter," she said, gesturing for him to follow.
Yang Podi complied, stepping into the city alongside her.
Inside, he found himself in a world illuminated by eerie blue and purple lights. Streetlamps emitted these colors, creating a hellish atmosphere that seemed straight out of a nightmare.
The veiled woman spoke with practiced ease. "I am your guide. For the next twelve hours, I'll answer any questions you have. After that, you'll begin your life here as a full-fledged member of the City of Slaughter."
"Take me to the Hell Slaughter Arena."
"Are you certain?" she asked, her voice tinged with concern. "Entering there, the survival rate is less than one in ten. Participants are only required to fight in the Hell Slaughter Arena once a year. Surviving a single match grants you another year of life in this city."
She hesitated before adding, "You currently have a twelve-hour protection period. If you enter the arena now, this protection will be voided."
Yang Podi's expression remained indifferent. "Lead the way."
Understanding his resolve, the veiled woman led him toward the city's central castle.
As they walked, various figures emerged—some laughing madly, others standing silently like statues. Most appeared emaciated, as if mere skeletons.
The guide explained, "This is the Outer City. Only those who survive the Hell Slaughter Arena can enter the Inner City. In the Inner City, there are no rules—only slaughter."
"In the Outer City, killing is prohibited. Residents must contribute two cups of Bloody Mary every month to remain here. That's why most of them look like that."
Soon, they reached the Inner City. Unlike the Outer City's eerie calm, the Inner City was a chaotic land of constant bloodshed.
Everywhere Yang Podi looked, people fought savagely, their limbs severed, their bodies writhing on the ground as others feasted on their flesh.
This was a cannibalistic world—brutal, merciless, and horrifying.
The veiled woman guided Yang Podi to a massive, circular structure resembling an ancient Roman coliseum. Its base was wide, tapering upward until it reached a consistent diameter thirty meters above the ground.
"What's the procedure to enter the Hell Slaughter Arena?" Yang Podi asked.
"Participants must offer a cup of Bloody Mary—yours or someone else's. Once ten participants are gathered, the match begins."
Yang Podi glanced at a burly man nearby, his intent clear.
The guide hurriedly warned, "Sir, provoking others will nullify your protection period."
Ignoring her, Yang Podi thrust his Breaking Soul Spear at the man.
The burly man reacted swiftly, wielding a massive hammer to block the attack. Their weapons collided with a deafening clang, forcing the man back three steps while Yang Podi remained unmoved.
Impressed by the man's strength, Yang Podi pressed the attack. With a deft maneuver, he disarmed the man, piercing his shoulder with his spear.
The man, undeterred by his injury, launched another attack, but Yang Podi swiftly severed his arm and ended the fight with a fatal thrust to the throat.
Retrieving several cups of Bloody Mary from the corpse, Yang Podi handed one to the guide.
Shaken, she quickly arranged his participation in the arena.
An hour later, Yang Podi stood in the Hell Slaughter Arena, facing nine other contestants.
"This is a world of slaughter," Yang Podi muttered. "If everyone is my enemy, I'll simply kill them all."
Gripping his Breaking Soul Spear, he launched into battle.
In just ten minutes, the other nine lay dead. Seven had fallen to his spear, while the remaining two were killed by their supposed allies.
In the City of Slaughter, there were no friends—only enemies.
