Dream a Nightmare

Chapter 2: An Old Friend and a New One

Dream would know that voice anywhere. It was the voice of his best friend. Well, his only friend, really, but that had been the plan.

Dream turned around once more.

Technoblade was here. As he was there during Dream's torture in life, he was here now, when they were both dead.

Dream faced Technoblade, and Technoblade faced Dream. And behind Dream, there was another Dream, and he faced another Technoblade, and the other Technoblade faced him. Despite recalling the feelings of terror that he had felt, and that the other Dream was now feeling, he still felt comforted. Technoblade would never let him down. Technoblade Never Dies.

But, Technoblade must have died, right? Otherwise he wouldn't be here. Unless he somehow found a way in. Dream wouldn't put it past him.

"Sorry I'm late," Technoblade said. "I hope that the extra ten minutes didn't matter too much."

"How long have I been here?" Dream asked. He didn't understand what Technoblade meant, but he wanted his questions answered.

"It's only been about half an hour," Technoblade said. "It'd be much worse if Ghostbur had to come and get you."

"What are you talking about?" Dream asked. "What does Ghostbur have to do with anything?"

"A lot more than you would think," Technoblade said. "At least, a lot more than I thought at first."

"Alright," Dream said. "I'm done with questions for now. Let's get moving."

"Not yet," Technoblade said. He was standing still. Dream had thought that Technoblade was here to take him away from this. Had he not said that? Maybe Dream had just thought that. But, then again, why else would Technoblade come?

"Here, wear this," Technoblade said, and handed him a crown. "I think we're going to need a little more help."

"More..?" Dream started, but then he stopped. He had seen something on the crown. He snatched it out of Technoblade's hand.

The crown was golden, and it had a large pink gemstone on the front. It also had the words "Pink Parrots" engraved into it. The crown gave Dream a strange feeling, like he knew what it was, or should know what it was, but he couldn't remember it.

He slowly lifted the crown up, and placed it on his head. As soon as he did, he felt thoughts. They brushed past him in a group, and stopped in front of him. The strange new sensation almost brought him to his knees right there, but the thoughts weren't hostile, and they tried as much as they could to stay away from him.

After a while, the crown was removed from his head. Dream opened his eyes. He didn't know when he had closed them. No one had taken the crown off. It was just floating. And glowing. The pink gem was glowing brighter than the rest of it. Dream looked over at Technoblade, and he was floating as well, although he wasn't glowing, and it was really more of a hover. He raised his arms up, and a red light coalesced around his head. Dream had remembered catching glimpses of that same light in Techno's eyes on Doomsday. This light, or rather what it represented, could cause some problems, but Dream didn't question Technoblade's decisions.

He thought that Technoblade had told him to put on the crown to summon the red light somehow. At least until his gaze was directed forward. Immediately in front of him was someone else. They were just an outline, with light pouring out from inside the frame, but Dream could make out just enough definition to tell that it was a person.

Dream squinted into the light, but he couldn't see any color.

Then, all at once, the light was gone, in a brilliant flash, which caused Dream to instinctively shield his eyes with an arm.

And then it was done.

The crown clattered to the ground, drawing his eyes, and the eyes of the figure opposite him. Dream lowered his arm, looked up, and froze.
