Chapter 9: A Robot And A Priest
They walked down the road which followed a massive swamp that emitted a horrific aura from it.
Entering the swamp they immediately see something overgrown in moss and covered in mud. It stood over at a kneeling position but as Theo measured it, it had a height of over 10-15 meters.
"Hey Volhcard care to clean this thing?" asked Theo. He was excited to say the least on seeing what this massive thing covered in mud was.
Volhcard shook his staff around as he created gusts of strong air clearing all the moss, than after that Aralia dug out all of the mud with her bare hands.
Soon it was revealed to be a deactivated robot made of cogs, clocks, and bronze. It had a massive crystal stuck to its chest, and it reacted to Volhcard.
"Hey can you use your lightning bolt for this thing?" Theo asked, amazed at the work of this being.
Volhcard nodded and shook the staff once more as a singular bolt of lightning came out of the staff. The robot shook rapidly as the core reawakened and slowly moved up to all its systems as it stood up.
Yuni immediately aimed her bow at the robot as Jae transformed her hands into tiger claws as Aralia prepared her waraxe.
It turned its head towards Volhcard, and in spoke in a deep robotic voice, "Are you my master?"
Volhcard put his hands up shaking his head as he disregarded him being the robot's master, "No, no I'm not your master."
The robot got closer, and spoke once more, "You're the one who woke me up."
Volhcard conflicted decided to agree to being the master to this robot as Theo chuckled.
Theo walkes over to Volhcard leaned down to his level and pat his shoulder.
"Fuck off, asshole." Volhcard looked over to as he cursed at him the moment he saw Theo holding back a laugh.
Yuni walked over to them as she pointed to the sky, "A storm's approaching, we better leave this shithole."
Everyoned booked it, but they were still in the swamp so they took refuge in an abandoned cabin situated beneath dense thick trees covered in mud and stone.
The robot was currently inspecting his surroundings like a baby finding out new things as Theo made food for everyone.
Jae scooted over to Volhcard and whispered to him, "Did you give it a name yet?"
Confused, Volhcard tilted his head before speaking, "What do you mean?"
Jae pointed over the robot behind her who was focused on inspecting the surroundings.
"Idol, that's his name."
Jae looked at Volhcard with a deadpan stare at the name as Aralia overheard the conversation she added, "I like it."
Yuni patted the top of Sticky's head to wake them up from their nap. The slime made a rough gurgling noise, "What?"
Looking up the the sky, it was the most beautiful thing everyone had seen. All around the world everyone stopped doing they're duties as they stared at the starry night, the stars aligned perfectly together as the sky whales moved throughout the realm, their sounds reverberated through every continent.
Truly a magnificent sight to behold, a sight so beautiful it managed to make Yuni of all people tear up, and Sticky noticed this.
The slime chuckled to themselves seeing their best friend be affected by the beautiful sight. The Realm of Relisquae truly was a beautiful world to live in, whether it be the many creatures, culture, food, or myths the one thing everyone agreed on was the beauty of what the Gods made.
The annual alignment of stars and the hordes of sky whales moving throughout he sky was something everyone will always stop to see and meditate on.
But somewhere in the heart of Sticky they felt a pained stabbing feeling. Visions of people they had never met struck the slime's mind and they tried hard not show any discomfort as to not worry Yumi.
Whatever visions he had knew they were important as he saw a sorcerer grinning as he talked to a blonde haired man clad in shining white armor.
Breaking his silent thinking was the loud voice of Theo, "Dinner's ready!"
A few hours later after dinner, Volhcard was awake while everyone except for Idol and Yuni were the only ones awake.
Yuni was practicing her archery as Idol walked over to Volhcard who was staring at the night sky.
"Master you should sleep." Idol took Volhcard on his shoulder.
Volhcard allowed Idol to bring him back to the camp as he started reminiscing of his past.
Volhcard before being trained by an undead mage, and before becoming a priest of the Glorious Life was a boy from a middle class family in Vyolmir.
His father Vholk was a blacksmith while his mother Terra was a librarian, while he himself liked magic specifically healing magic.
Every night when his parents were asleep he'd sneak into his mother's private library, and started reading the many books on healing there as well as history of the many Gods and Goddesses.
Until he was caught red handed by his father, but he allowed it and so each day he would get better and better in healing and protection spells.
After a few years when he reached 16, a sorcerer arrived and said he needed a weapon commissioned.
When he left for training he arrived back later to see his home burned down as the sorcerer walked towards him at the time he couldn't see his face due to it being covered by a pale mask.
"You'll do great things boy." his voice muffled as he pat a young Volhcard's head.
The sorcerer left as his house fully burned down and his parents dead a few minutes later a family friend arrived and took him in, and that was the undead mage.
Slowly he would teach him about combat spells, and he would slowly make the boy into a priest of Glorious Life.
Everything was going well until he met a certain woman.
At the age of 28 he was going on his daily teachings at the church when suddenly a woman barged in asking for a confession.
After that mass he walked towards the woman, and listened in to her confession. Only a few days after that was when a group of mercenaries started destroying his church and one by one his followers left.
Apparently that woman was a daughter of a elven noble and had some power in Vyolmir. Many were stunned to hear that the priest of Glorious Life would force himself upon a young girl... Of course that was false, but it was too late everyone had turned against him except his master.
To this day he still didn't understand why a young girl would lie so much as to make his life suffer. But right now he was in a good position, he had friends who he was traveling with, and certainly a servant made of metal and magic.
"What a storm my life has been." he chuckled to himself before laying down on his sleeping bed.
With one final stare towards he sky a faint smile grew on his face before he slept.
