During the Dark Ages

Chapter 16: Chapter 16 K&K's(1)

I slept really well that night and wished I could say the same for the rest. When I woke up they sitting in the corner leaning against the wall facing the glass door. They clutched their guns tightly with bags under their eyes as a sign of their exhaustion. Poor bastards.

"Goodmorning, did you guys sleep well?" I said. It's not my fault they didn't sleep so why should I care. They glared at me but didn't seem to have the energy to respond.

"You guys should take a nap, I'll wake you up in an hour." I told them and they almost immediately went to sleep showing the extent of their exhaustion. In the meantime I checked my guns and sword to make sure that everything was in order. Next I activated my aura vision skill to get a rough understanding of what's going on inside the mall.

I noticed that the amount of blue auras in the building has decreased and the red ones have increased meaning that more people has been turned into thralls. I need to hurry before everyone in this place is turned into a thrall. An hour later, I woke up the rest of the group and proceeded to the first group of blue aura which was actually on the first floor. The problem, well not really a problem for me, is that there were numerous red auras between the two of us. As we proceeded towards the group of humans, I made the others take note of the different stores we passed on the way. And soon. And soon we ran into the first group of thralls.

"Ok, guys they are all yours." I said as we peered around the corner at the group of thralls wondering the corridor.

"What do you mean 'they are all yours'. Aren't you gonna fight them?" One of the girls asked as her skin paled while looking at the wondering thralls.

"No I'm not. You guys will have to learn to fight for yourselves are you won't survive this world." I said. I had decided to let these spineless bastards atleast learn to fight and although it pained me to lose all that exp, it was something I chose to do so that they could atleast be useful in a fight. Fat chance of that thou.

"But...but..." The girl stuttered but I decided to answer her question.

"What did you guys think I was going to spend my entire life protecting you lot. Get your head out of your ass. So I wonder, when I leave, and believe me I will, will you guys hide and eventually die or will you fight for your life until your very last breath?" I said with a smile plastered on my face and my eyes gleaming.

They stared at the ground their arms trembling but one of them walked out from the corner gun in hand. That person was Tim.

"Good now remember, aim for th...." Before I could finish my sentence gunshots sounded in the corridor biting into undead flesh. The thralls ran at Tim but he seemed to not have forgotten my advice and he managed to kill two of the thralls but the other five were getting closer and he was out of bullets. Before I could step in to help him, Claire and Roxy stepped in and rained bullets onto them killing four of them and leaving one incapacitated which was quickly killed by one of the other guys in the group. I secretly threw a look of disgust at the guy but quickly turned my gaze away.

"Nice job but we should probably hurry I'm pretty sure that the gunfire attracted more than a few zombies." And soon my theory was proven correct as we saw tens of undead thralls around ten minutes later. And surprisingly I didn't have to do anything as the others wiped them out with there pistols albeit missing more than a few shots. Walking over the dead thralls we made our way towards where the humans were hiding. They were surprisingly hiding at the back of a toy store. Entering we found them curled up together trembling evidently scared.

"Please you can take me but spare the children please." A middle aged woman cried. She was curled up on the ground holding three children, two boys and a girl, whom looked no older than ten.

"Relax lady we are not here to take your kids." I said.

"Wh-who are you?" She asked while tears streamed down her face.

"Just some guy, but trust that I'm here to help." I said holding out my hand
