Chapter 209: Divine Banquet I

The Imperial Banquet is a magno-event that takes place in the capital of the Baharut Empire, Calissa, once every year. The duches, counts and earls had the opportunity to curry the Emperor's favour and claim and stack of subsidy for future projects within their territory.

It was a networking opportunity and obviously, it was also an opportunity for passionate young men of the highest stratum of society to meet heiresses and their secret crushes.

In all senses of the word, the Imperial Banquet was a stepping stone young nobles had to

tackle in order to inherit their respective houses and attain nobility titles and territory.

But this Imperial Banquet in particular was fated to remain in the history of the Empire in its more than five thousand years of history, as the most significant.

Because it wasn't an Imperial Banquet. It was a Divine Banquet.

The counts and countesses, dukes and duchesses, marques and marquesses from the Baharut Empire would undoubtedly arrive, however, because of the magnitude of the event and the prestige of the guests, other individuals were bound to be interested.

From the Argland Council-State. From the Dragon Kingdom and the Beastman Country. And even from the Slane Theocracy. They spent hours and even days travelling in carriages, wyverns and flying vessels from all over the continent to come to the capital.

All for one purpose: To witness God walking on Earth.

The first half an hour of the banquet was uneventful, as nobles arrived and awaited for the main hosts to show themselves. Guests from all over the world arrived, and the ambience was a lot more awkward than usual due to diplomatic tension.

Tension among the nobles of the empire from whom some still believed the Sun God was but a conqueror who had taken over the empire's will. They had fierce discussions and arguments with those who believed Osiris to be a saviour.

Delegates from the Sloane Theocracy earned the most attention, they were not allies of a pagan god, and yet still they dared come.

...

In a secluded spot, ten minutes before the appearance of the Emperor, Jicniv stood together with his Empress staring down at the hall where the masked delegates of the Sloane Theocracy walked casually, greeting acquaintances and sponsors.

"Should we erase them, Lady Tsunade? Our intel networks suggest these delegates have arrived with two parties of adventurers who are currently wandering the capital, seeking information" Jicniv frowned.

"Leave them," Azrael walked out of the darkness flapping her wings, she said even before Tsunade answered, earning the blonde's gaze.

"I wasn't planning to let them go, Azrael" Tsunade said lightly.

"That's right, they are openly addressing Lord Ray as a 'Pagan God' in front of the guests, that crime should–" The empress seemed more passionate than Jicniv himself when it came to disrespecting Osiris' name.

"The freedom of thought is the key to our Sun Church. The master doesn't need worshippers, the worshippers need a master. Besides, nobles are fickle, their faith remains with whom secure their assets and status. That is not something the Slane Theocracy is capable of... more than directly obliterating any intent influence, wouldn't it be better to show the theocracy how strong the faith for my master is?".

"Do you have a plan?" Tsunade frowned.

"None whatsoever" Azrael shrugged her shoulders and started walking out of the room as it was already their time to show up downstairs, she didn't need to worry about the final decision.

Because she knew Tsunade would never go against her input.

Tsunade sighed and walked behind her, both looking astonishing, with a wave of her hand two other ladies followed behind: Leone and Draudillon.

"By the way, Jicniv... my husband and his 'divine guests' may not show up tonight" Tsunade sighed.

"E-Eh? B-But it is his grand debut! Everyone is looking forward to seeing a genuine Midnight Elf–"

'And that midnight elf is moaning and on the verge of losing consciousness right now...' She cracked her teeth and released yet another helpless sigh accompanied by a weak smile.

"That brat doesn't care about that, all he likes is chasing skirts. Let's go, if we don't show them what they expect, this banquet will turn a bit dull".

Following behind and hearing their words, a certain blonde with lion ears couldn't help but silently scowl, "A perverted brat, what do they even see in him–"

*WHOOSH!*

Leone paled when the blade of a scythe scratched her neck and the real sight of the angel of death unleashed once again, she looked towards Tsunade as if asking for help, but she didn't receive it.

"We may have witnessed your potential and thought of giving you an opportunity, but don't think for a second that you are deserving of it, Leone. Right here, right now... if you don't wish to serve, remove yourself and your daughters from the Beastman Country's nobility, disappear and never return".

Leone flinched and moved the scythe away, she knelt with her fist touching the ground, "I do not care about the Beastman Country's nobility, if you so wish we may be removed at any time. We value strength above anything in this world, the one I wish to serve is you!"

Seeing the lioness's insistence, Azrael removed her scythe and sighed, "I feel you will end up being a disappointment in the future, but you are strong-willed".

"I won't disappoint you"

The arrival of the Emperor would have marked the greatest moment in the banquet in any other precedent. However, when the Emperor and the Empress showed themselves, they received nothing but mild greetings, something unheard of that would have made heads roll in the past.

Rias stepped forward dressed in a gorgeous tight sleeveless one-piece crimson dress, boasting her twelve wings, leading her peerage with grace and nonchalance. Following behind was her queen in a custom-made black and white priestess kimono resembling the style of Japan but also the undistinctive tailoring of the Baharut Empire.

Nullifying her group's grace, the gorgeous Anna-chan walked like a scolded puppy still wearing a spring sleeveless dress with her hair in two cute ponytails, she gave the banquet guests the impression that she wanted to get spoiled and comforted.

And lastly, nullifying Anna-chan's nullification of grace, the royal elf stepped in the hall earning the shameful glances of all high aristocrats. The small heiress of the fallen Blair Dynasty of the Elf Kingdom. There was no noble in the world that didn't at least hold wishful thoughts of having her as their slave. If sold in a market, surely climb up the price ladder until she reaches a small fortune most barons and counts wouldn't be able to afford.

The group of five princesses stood on the sidelines, all with dresses of their own, trying to not get too much attention. They saw Anna step forward and were flabbergasted, Alana looked at her sister, all free and unrestrained, unashamedly showing her true appearance, and she felt like crying.

This elf walked in freely and independently, confident and even feeling disdainful at those glances. Compared to the past, none in this room held the power to make her a slave anymore.

She inhaled and exhaled, it was the first time she showed up in such a setting without using a disguise, a hand resting on her shoulder, giving comfort.

Tsunade smiled at her, "Don't be nervous, nothing is going to happen... they can't do anything to you, even if we weren't here".

Among the invitees, the delegates of the Sloane Theocracy were the most disgusting, one of them went as far as to lick his lips when he saw the royal elf.

"Just ignore those bastards, they don't–" Tsunade began, wanting to take action too even though it was not diplomatically correct.

*RUMBLE!*

A gigantic hand made out of a red aura stretched and grasped that man in front of all the guests.

<4th Tier: Fireball!>

The companions of that delegate all activated and shot their spells towards that hand, only to witness their spells get destroyed the moment they came into contact with it.

"Rias, stop!" The elf tried to stop her king, but Rias grasped Anna Blair's wrist to keep her quiet.

The whole banquet went quiet and pale, no one expected such violent actions from the start, in fact, no one expected any violence at all!

Tsunade and Azrael who had just stepped in, saw what happened and they merely smiled and didn't do anything, contrary to Jicniv's expectations.

Four more hands shot to grasp the other delegates, they were helpless to do anything except be held like bugs.

"I could destroy you with a simple thought" Rias pressed, her voice extended in the hall and she wasn't lying as she was restraining her aura's destructiveness, all she had to do was release it and those bodies would be gone.

"Ugh!" The man who looked like the leader groaned and nodded, only then they were released. Tsunade and Azrael nodded in pride as they had expected Rias to make the most rational decision.

'It was a great display of restrained power... if she hopes to take over the Gremory Household, she should know at least this much'.

After her display, Rias followed with a polite declaration, "In due respect to his majesty Jicniv, I will release you. But there won't be a second time, I dare you to look at my elf with such a disgusting look again".

!!!

"M-My elf!?~" Anna-chan, who had been depressed a second ago after getting scolded over candies, saw her opportunity to tease the king and didn't miss it.

On the other hand, Anna Blair blushed madly, "Oh my... R-Rias, but I'm Lord Ray's~"

The King quickly tried to defuse the confusion that she caused, earning a laugh out of the guests and effectively releasing the tension, even if that was not her intention from the start.

'What sort of ridiculous power is this?!' The delegates held each other together, wondering what kind of sorcery the redhead had used that nullified their spells, regardless of what it was, the black scripture would be pleased to know that such a power existed once they reported it back in the Theocracy.

"My name is Archon, a bishop of the church of the Six Great Gods. You have my gratitude, young lady, I apologise on behalf of my subordinates' conduct. I believe that our presence in the banquet would render the rest of the guests uncomfortable and therefore, bid our farewell ahead of time" The man said, and after bowing once to the Emperor, pulled his sinful companion by the hair and out of the premises.

"How thoughtful~" Akeno giggled and elbowed her King with a nodding motion, proud of her.

Far away in a corner, out of people's gazes, the dark elves watched the display with relief. Alana in particular held her heart and tears.

'Mom, Dad... I think Anna has finally found the place where she belongs. There... there they will take care of her.

Merluna, Nocturna and Yuna saw her on the verge of tears and patted their companion, they both knew how difficult those two had it and seeing that the forest elf had finally found her place of life filled them with fulfilment.

"Glory to the Sun God, I guess~".
