Chapter 19: The Special Ingredient
EJ
I was not really sure how to sit in my seat. Did I cross my legs? Did I spread my thighs? Or should have I reclined my seat to make it look like I was ready to casually doze off?
However that would look rude and the last thing I wanted was for Connor to think I was not interested. Not that he would have cared. He was typing away on his laptop with a steady frown that made my own heart thunder. I was not sure what he was doing but he seemed to be deeply engrossed in it.
"Want a drink?" I offered finally deciding to keep myself busy.
His thick eyebrows furrowed before relaxing, "Are you going to try to poison me?"
"I'm offended," I rolled my eyes, "Do you want a drink or not?"
"Yes," he leaned back in his seat, "Anything. Just no alcohol."
I nodded then stood up. With an easy glide I headed down to the bar. I knew I could have asked a flight attendant but that wouldn't give me the opportunity to distract myself.
Being in Dads jet was normal. Damn it I had grown up in multiple versions of it. Never had I ever analyzed it so much. Was the gold too much? We're the seats too creamy? Did Connor like it or did he think it was a complete waste of money?
He was always so analytical about everything that involved my life. The last thing I wanted was to load his gun even more when we fought. When Dad offered for us to take his jet as a form of an apology to the team and to Connor for the mess I had started I had agreed.
It felt like a good idea at the time. Now I seemed to regret it.
I grabbed a beer for myself then made a lychee mango smoothie for Connor. I loved it and I hoped he would too.
As I approached him from the back I was able to quickly peek at his laptop screen before he noticed and nearly died from laughter when I saw he was playing a rugby computer game. No wonder he was so focused!
"Here you go," I placed his drink on the table in front of him before I took my seat.
He eyed it suspiciously before he picked it up and took out the straw then like a complete brute took a gulp. His eyes enlarged in surprise before he took another gulp. "What is this?"
"My signature smoothie," I grinned, "it's a mango and lychee smoothie with a special ingredient."
"What's the special ingredient?" He leaned forward, almost eager.
"I can't tell you," I beamed, "that's why it's special."
He held the glass up before groaning. My blood burned hot from that sound alone. After he chugged the whole thing down he demanded I make another one which I happily did.
"Who knew you're useful for something?" He chuckled before he closed his laptop then zipped it back in his bag.
"I'm useful at a lot of things you just never cared to pay attention," I shrugged.
He gave me a small smile before nodding. A silence enveloped us as his eyes scanned me. I did not look away since that would make me look guilty of something. People only looked away if there was something they knew and were too shy to admit it.
It felt odd. To be scrutinized by Connor. I was used to it. When we played or during practice but not in private. Not when it was just the two of us. I had tried to dress up today. To make myself a little more presentable to him.
He on the other hand made no effort. He still wore his tracksuit, his hair half plastered to his forehead whilst the other messily kissed his shoulders. To me he looked like he had just rolled out of bed but the strong scent of soap and the cool body wash he used was heavily scented in the air.
"Are you going to tell me what happened a few nights ago?" His words snapped me out of my bubble instantly making my heart plummet.
"What are you talking about?" I could feel the blood rush to my face but I hoped for once my pale skin did not betray me.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about," he rubbed the palm of his hands on his thighs lightly pulling his tracksuit pants. "It's never going to happen again. I do not know what sick game you were trying to do to throw me off during the game but it's not going to work."
My hot flush quickly changed to that of confusion and disappointment. Had Connor thought I had done all of that just for the petty rivalry him and I had?
It made the most sense. In his eyes he probably did not see anything but that, yet it still hurt.
"It was stupid," I sighed and looked out the window to see the top of the passing clouds. "I won't do it again."
"Excellent," he looked down to his lap then sighed, "maybe then we can have a good few weeks."
I nodded, not finding the energy to get into this now. Coach Bryan had found some training boot camp for us to go to in the middle of Wales. Apparently they were the number one in the area in breaking down a team then restructuring them up.
To me it looked like a military boot camp which I was not too excited about. Knowing Coach Bryan he probably picked the most harshest course for us to go through just to punish us. Maybe it would snap me out of this idol mentality I had over Connor.
I feared I had gotten the lines extremely blurred when it came to him. He was my rugby hero growing up so it made sense why I would have a little crush on him.
