Chapter 1 The Strong Is Respected 1
In the chilly month of February, an inconspicuous carriage made its way down the official road.
The exterior of the carriage appeared ordinary, but its interior exuded exquisite luxury. On a soft couch lay a seven-year-old girl, sleeping with her eyes lightly closed.
She possessed beautiful and delicate eyebrows, long and curled eyelashes that cast graceful shadows, and beneath her straight little nose, her bright red lips were pressed firmly. Her skin was as fair and tender as snow, so delicate it seemed like water could be squeezed from it. She was wrapped in a fox fur coat that covered her petite frame.
Seated on the opposite side were two young girls who bore a striking resemblance to each other.
After a couple of gentle eyelid twitches, the girl who had been sleeping with her eyes closed finally stirred awake. She extended her hand to draw back the carriage’s curtain and gazed at the driver as she inquired, “How much longer until we reach the imperial capital of the Qilan Empire?” The driver turned towards her and replied, “Half an hour.”
Another woman in the carriage heard the conversation, looked at the girl reclining on the soft couch, and suggested, “Miss, there is still half an hour; you can rest.” Yemo heard these words and smiled, saying, “Yilin, Yiluo, the road ahead may not be peaceful. Rather than have people disturb my sleep, it’s better not to rest now.” Upon hearing this, Yilin and Yiluo exchanged glances but remained silent.
Yemo smiled softly and said, “Although I don’t know why the General’s Mansion suddenly summoned me back after four years of exile, they hold no genuine feelings for me. They’ve brought me back only because they have something to use me for. They consider me nothing more than trash.”
Yilin frowned in response to Yemo’s self-deprecating words, stating, “Miss, you are not trash; those people are simply blind.” Yemo leaned back on the soft couch, closed her eyes, and began to recount the events that had led to her current situation.
She was once known as the planetary mercenary queen, taking on only one mission per month. In a particular month, she accepted a mission to retrieve the Phoenix Ring.
The Phoenix Ring had suddenly appeared on a planet, accompanied by a mysterious and formidable force that laid waste to an entire city. The planet’s military forces had laid siege to the city for two years before successfully obtaining the Phoenix Ring.
The devastation of the city was no secret to anyone on the planet, including Yemo herself.
In the month she accepted the mission, the military was preparing to transport the Phoenix Ring to the Central Underground Research Institute.
The Central Underground Research Institute was a troublesome location. Prior to that, a spaceship would be used to transport the Phoenix Ring to the institute.
Yemo had infiltrated the spaceship and secured the Phoenix Ring. Just as she was about to make her escape, the spaceship encountered spatial turbulence, an event unseen for hundreds of years.
(Spatial turbulence: Space-time turbulence is the chaos of time and space. During a certain period, small black holes appear in space, sucking in people or objects and causing them to traverse time and space, arriving at different times and places.)
Despite her best efforts, the spaceship lost control due to the chaotic nature of the spatial turbulence and ultimately exploded, claiming the lives of everyone on board, including Yemo’s own.
However, upon awakening, she found herself reborn as the five-year-old daughter of the Qilan Empire’s general, cast aside to a lesser branch. Her exile was the result of a single judgment passed when she was only three years old: she was deemed unable to practice magic, possessing no innate talent for martial skills. This judgment had branded her as “trash,” a reputation that had spread far and wide, making her infamous throughout the Qilan Empire. Even her own father had disowned her, relegating her to the collateral branch.
