Chapter 131: Filling up the Spare Time
When the food was delivered and the butler, Jack, exited the room once again after being told by Kayn that he wouldn't need anything else until morning, Kayn lifted the curtain of darkness he had created.
The three women were looking at him with trepidation as they didn't know why he had done that or what his intentions with them were now. The sisters were still hugging each other and Colleen just sat on the bed, hugging her legs.
Kayn sighed at this as he truly didn't know what to do to convince them that things would get better. Instead, he just waved at all of the various food items that had been delivered. "Eat up, you all look like you need some food."
After that, Kayn went to the chair he decided he liked the most and sat in a lotus position. He wasn't going to sleep for these few days, but he probably had 12 or more hours until the next day of auctions started up.
Taking a deep breath, he pushed his Mana Sense out trying to get a good understanding of the layout of the auction house and the people inside. The whole building was built underground, so penetrating his senses through some of the thicker constructed areas was quite challenging.
What was worse though was the fact that there were several large areas which contained formations that were blocking his probing, including all of the VIP rooms. Fortunately for Kayn, he would be able to bypass these formations with enough patience and focus as they weren't meant to block his particular ability.
Mana was everywhere, nothing they did could stop that. And if there was mana, Kayn could use his Mana Sense, it's just how it worked.
He slowed his breathing and began to circulate his Void Star technique as well as now focusing purely on one room at a time. He already had an idea of the basic layout of the place as well as getting a good peek at the non-VIPs, so now it was time to focus in on each VIP room.
A while later, he finally figured out the trick to being able to see inside the VIP rooms. He scanned each and every one of them in order to see if any of the people had their faces revealed. He wasn't happy with what he observed occurring inside of these rooms currently, but he also knew he couldn't do anything about either.
Luckily, Kayn was able to maintain his distanced emotions and continue keeping himself cool and collected. If this was a few years ago, perhaps his anger would have taken over already, but he noticed that ever since he obtained the Wanderer's Villa, he was steadily gaining more and more control over his anger. He no longer felt that he was losing his mind at the times when he got extremely angry, but when he was angry, he wasn't losing control of himself.
Kayn couldn't help but think this was a good thing, as he still felt that he would be able to tap into the power that Wrath provided him, without any of the downsides. He remembered the mysterious entity being surprised about something in his soul, so maybe it had to do with Wrath? He truly didn't know, but could only hope that as time went by, his control of the Sin would increase.
Kayn only had 10 more rooms to examine now as he was taking a small break in between each room to refocus. He took a quick glance around his own room, only to notice that all of the food plates had been emptied and all three of the women were now asleep in the massive bed. The two sisters had claimed one side and were cuddling together while Colleen was passed out on the other edge, shivering in a ball as she didn't cover herself with blankets.
Kayn felt bad for Colleen as she was now the odd one out in this little group of theirs. He stood up and walked over to her side of the bed. He then used some tier 0 magic to heat up the blanket and placed it over her before placing a single finger onto her forehead.
She was still fast asleep, so Kayn did what he could to ease her mind. He swept her body with a soothing light magic spell as well, healing any of her wounds and scar tissue in the meantime. Colleen's scrunched up face quickly eased after he started, and when he removed his finger, she appeared to be sleeping quite peacefully.
Kayn thought about checking on the other two as well, but since Repha was a mage, she was probably subconsciously trying to keep track of her surroundings and his approach would most likely wake her up.
Shaking his head, he went back to examining the last 10 VIPs. After that he planned to try and examine the large area that was set below everything else, most likely the storage area and vault for the auction goods.
There were no surprises in the first nine rooms that he examined. Just more of the same as the previous rooms. On the tenth room though, the VIP didn't have a mask on or any disguise. Kayn examined this person in detail and couldn't help but get the feeling that he recognized them from somewhere, he just couldn't put his finger on where.
Putting that aside for now, Kayn heard a knock on the door and when he opened it, the young butler was standing there with an empty tray. Kayn promptly allowed him inside and he cleaned up all of the dirty dishes before getting Kayn's breakfast order and departing once more.
Time had flown by as he was focused on examining the different rooms and the people they contained, but he had at least one more night here to gather information before the raid. His job was to gather information, buy as many slaves as he could, and get out.
The information would be given just after he gave the signal that he was clear of the area so they knew what they were walking into before the raid commenced.
The group's goal was to capture or kill every auction house official while saving as many people as they could. Any items or monetary gains would be split evenly between the group members minus the money Kayn spent during the auction.
They weren't as concerned with the people who attended the auction, but would try to document them all so that they could later turn them into the authorities. They planned to only interfere with the patrons if they had slaves following along with them.
To Kayn's knowledge, none of the VIPs had arrived with any slaves. Some had a few guards inside their rooms, but other than that the people inside their rooms were the provided "entertainment" or the personal butler.
The breakfast was delicious, so Kayn ordered extra for himself and the girls. After the second tray of breakfast items was delivered, Kayn asked to be left alone until the auction started, which was scheduled for mid-afternoon.
Once Jack left the room, the three women were waved over to come eat some food. They were still a little nervous around Kayn, but his passive tactics to warm them up to him were working. He always kept his face hidden though, even while eating.
Not being able to view their host's face kept their suspicions up against him, but he was leaving them alone and feeding them. The three women kept their guards up, but were a lot more relaxed than when they were initially selected.
Repha and her sister, whose name was still unknown to Kayn, were particularly smiling more as they were just glad to be together again. Kayn would always give the three the space they needed when eating, most of his time was spent sitting in the chair facing the auction window.
Kayn once again returned to examining everything about the underground auction house while also strengthening his core. Unfortunately, while probing the area where the merchandise and slaves were being held, he felt that something or someone had figured out something was happening and they were trying to trace it.
Kayn was able to avoid being traced as he was just using the ambient mana in the air to probe while using Mana Sense, but it was still dangerous to continue at this point. If somehow whatever it was did discover that it was him probing the area, he was sure that he wouldn't be forgiven no matter how much money he spent.
Thus, he simply pulled out the one book he brought with him just in case, an array symbols book. It wasn't very entertaining, but Kayn needed to get them learned eventually, so what better time than now?
