Enigma of Sin

Chapter 151: Breaking Through

Kayn arrived in front of one of the only remaining 5th stage combatants, funnily enough it was the healer they had tried to extract information from when he was drunk. Before the man could even react, Kayn's fist had already entered in his front and exited through his spine.

There was no blood, just a hole with whatever the black elements were surrounding Kayn's arm. Those same elements were beginning to disintegrate the man's body.

As Kayn took a moment, reveling in his newfound power and ability to instantly kill a 5th stage mage, even if they were exhausted, Charlotte finally caught up to him again.

She marveled at Kayn's ability, but knew that now was not the time. "Kayn, you focus on disabling or destroying the rune, I'll keep the rest of them distracted, got it?"

Kayn glanced over at Charlotte's state, becoming a little worried about her, but he nodded regardless. But just as he moved away and she was approaching her next opponent, she coughed up a mouthful of blood and collapsed onto the ground, clutching at her stomach.

"Finally! The poison finally got through to that bitch! Now just to deal with you before I can sit back and watch the show!" The Head Healer spat out with a crazed smile on his face.

Seeing this, Kayn backed off and returned to Charlotte's side. Knowing he couldn't do anything about her now and it looked like she was unconscious, he summoned the invisible tent that was the Wanderer's Villa.

Knowing where the entrance was as he could actually see it, Kayn threw Charlotte's body into the entry way and focused back on the group he would need to fight. Charlotte gave her all to protect him, now it was his turn. He didn't know how long he would be able to last in this state as he was already starting to hurt everywhere, but he had to continue.

"What was that!? Where did she go!?" The Head Healer pointed at Kayn and shouted as all he saw was Charlotte's body being thrown in a certain direction before it vanished into thin air. He was close to being a peak existence himself, but nonetheless he couldn't figure out what had just happened.

"That's none of your concern." Kayn angrily growled between his still clenched teeth.

Meanwhile, the avatar inside of the Villa had moved Charlotte to a bed and collected a sample of her blood. It quickly rushed down to the master control room, inputting the unlocking codes as quickly as possible before adding her to the registered list of residents. Kayn only had one spot left now unless he removed someone from it in the future, if he even could.

Once Kayn got the signal that the deed was done, he absorbed the Wanderer's Villa back into his soul where the cooling presence helped to soothe his mind and body. This was the best way he could think to keep Charlotte safe and potentially escape with her if all else failed.

On the other hand, the Head Healer was growing increasingly red in the face as he was becoming angrier at his plans being disrupted.

"Mitas will be here any moment now, then we will kill you and find what you did with Charlotte." He sneered, trying to remove any hope Kayn had about his situation.

And just like he said, Kayn felt the ground rumble from multiple points around the tent, indicating that he was probably now surrounded by a few of the bone dragons. Knowing that his time was up, he shot directly forward, intending to destroy the rune with his next move.

The guards all sneered as even if the lowly 4th stage received a temporary power up, they were all in the 6th stage, so what could he do against them?

"SCRAM!" Kayn yelled as he shot off a massive black tornado that was swirling with black fire and black lightning shooting out as bolts as it spun around in a black cyclone of wind.

The tent they were in was quickly absorbed into the swirling mass of wind, exposing the scene that was occurring outside. Bodies, bones, and blood were strewn about and there was a massive golden dome that two of the bone dragons were relentlessly attacking.

The few guards standing between Kayn and the Head Healer sneered as they each cast some form of defense, even if they didn't think a spell from a 4th stage could hurt them. They ignored the fact that the tent which had just been defending against 6th stage attacks was completely gone because of the whirlwind.

However, as the tornado reached the line of four standing in front of the Head Healer and rune, they all began screaming as they were sucked into the tornado, slowly beginning to deteriorate into nothingness and there was not a single thing they could do to get out.

The tornado was suffocating and seemed to remove any form of mana movement in their bodies. Even if they were stronger physically than normal humans, they couldn't fly or move their bodies in the air without mana.

As the tornado hovered in place, eating away at the guards, Kayn approached the Head Healer with a dark red flame covering his hand. The Head Healer didn't know what the black elemental spells were and they certainly felt ominous, but he was confident that his barrier could hold up against them.

He watched at Kayn shot the dark red fire at him, but laughed as it turned out to be just a regular ball of fire. The fire hit against his barrier and was unceremoniously blocked. "Hahaha you think you can bre-"

However, his words caught in his mouth as a massive black lightning bolt that was at least the width of a large tree from the Great Forest barreled down on the rune from the sky. One of the bone dragons launched a wave of fire in that split second, trying to get rid of the lightning, but it was only able to diminish the bolt to a smaller size.

By the time the Extinction Lightning that Kayn had been powering up in the sky for a while now hit the barrier, it was only about the width of an arm, but that was enough. The Extinction Lightning was halted by the barrier at first, but it dug its way through moments later before exploding when it hit the rune.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" A voice that was seething in anger roared out from the head of one of the bone dragons approaching him.

Without thinking any further, Kayn pulled the teleportation scroll from his sash and quickly activated it. Just as he was about to be engulfed in multiple spells he was surrounded by a bluish-white light, blinding his vision.

On the other side of the convention area underneath the massive dome of light, several figures stood with their hands in the air, constantly chanting the combination barrier spell again and again.

From the thousands that had attended this convention, only a few hundred were left, all under the protection of around 20 individuals that were able to work together to create this dome and resist the relentless onslaught of the undead.

The remainder of the group could only try their best to assist with whatever the main group needed. However, many were crouched or sitting while clutching the teleportation scroll, constantly trying to activate it while crying at their inevitable end.

Clara Whiteclaw was one of the individuals helping to keep the barrier active, but holding the barrier active against the bone dragons was taking a tremendous amount of her mana, not to mention the other undead. She was quite positive she would run out of mana soon, and when that happened it would most likely to start a domino effect and everyone inside of the dome would die.

She couldn't find Charlotte or Kayn no matter how much she looked around, but she also found it doubtful that they would have perished already unless they tried to fight a few of the bone dragons by themselves.

Around the time that she was about to give up on casting the barrier spell due to her mana running dry, a loud and anger filled voice filled the air.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"

While she didn't know who had shouted, it certainly didn't bode well considering that the even inside of the barrier a terrifying aura tried to pressure them further.

As she stood there, holding strong until the very end, she watched as not far from her one of the people clutching onto their teleportation scroll was suddenly enveloped in a soft white glow before disappearing completely.

Her eyes opened wide when she saw this, so she yelled out as loud as she could. "The sealing formation is down! Everyone, use your teleportation scrolls now!!"

Within seconds, every single person currently under the protection of the barrier began to be surrounded in a white light. Just as the barrier finally broke down, the last of the group underneath vanished into thin air, teleporting away from the scene filled with death.

Mitas jumped down from the head of the bone dragon he was currently on and landed right in front of the Head Healer, the only one remaining from the group from Carnet.

Mitas lifted him up by his neck with his hand made of bone and decayed flesh, "How could you fail and be defeated by a child?! You had one job, protect the rune! Now, since I lost most of the valuable pets, you will replace them. I'll be sure to send a message to your Emperor about what happened. And don't worry, I'll also send him what he requested as my part of the agreement."

Without further ado, he clenched his hand so tight that it crushed the neck of the Head Healer, snapping his spine in the process. He wasn't dead just yet though, so Mitas stabbed his finger through the eye socket of the healer, directly into his brain.

He dropped the body to the ground and moved to where the rune was destroyed, however, before he investigated it, he needed to raise all of his new pets from their slumber before their mana cores went bad or they lost their capacity to think.

Chanting in an unknown language, massive amounts of dark elemental mana started to leave from his mana core, forming a dark hazy dome over the entire area. As he finished chanting, he slammed his staff down onto the ground.

A few moments later, the Head Healer that was just lying dead on the ground, rose up to his feet. As his eyes regained focus, he looked around only to watch as all of the other people who were slain today began rising to their feet.

He looked at his hands in a daze, they looked about the same, but he felt…different. His entire being felt wrong, corrupted. Then his eyes shot open as he realized what had occurred.

He couldn't help but look at the King of Liches in front of him and mumble, "No, no, no!"

Just as he was about to cast a light attributed attack at the lich, he felt severe pain radiating from his mana core and head all throughout his body.

"You can't attack your Master, sorry new pet. Now give me your own personal storage device and go scour this place with everyone else looking for anything valuable." Mitas spoke as he reached his hand out.

"As you wish, Master." The once glorious Head Healer, now reduced to a mere undead pet, handed over his dimensional ring and went off in search of valuables.
