Chapter 156: Traveling Across the World
Five days and almost $125,000 later, Kayn was able to purchase a false identity for himself. Apparently, it was quite a bit more difficult during this day and age as they had to hack a worldwide database to put his name in and only the best of the best could do that. Not to mention creating an entire life's worth of background and backlog activity.
For his picture, he kept the points of his ears tucked behind his hair so that they weren't visible as he knew that his hood had to be down for an official passport picture.
As for what he would say while traveling? He was planning on either showing them off and playing it off as a body modification or just wrapping them in bandages and stating that he recently had ear surgery.
He booked the first flight available to go to Greece, where the temple of Zeus was discovered. It was ridiculously difficult to get a travel allowance to Europe, but he eventually managed to obtain one. He had to wait a week for the flight, so during these seven days he studied up on other gods throughout the world and any hidden temples that were already uncovered and publicized.
If he did indeed gain something from this hidden temple dedicated to Zeus, there was a good chance he would be able to gain from the others as well. So, he needed to know which temples belonged to what god and what they specialized in or were known for.
This was so he could prioritize temples to visit first and which to not visit at all. For example, he had no interest in one of the uncovered hidden temples belonging to Eros who represented love and sex.
Kayn made a list of potential candidates and an order he would visit them in, as long as he could travel there that was. However, Zeus's temple would be his first stop as he knew a little more of what to expect, and gaining something relating to lightning or wind would be great.
Governments at every other temple that was uncovered had completely blocked off entry due to numerous mysterious deaths in these last few days, and researchers were constantly trying to come up with ways to enter into them. Kayn could only wait until his flight arrived to figure things out himself.
His flight wasn't even exactly to Greece and he would need to travel by foot to get to his destination. He was hoping to find someone there that was willing to drive into the war zone, but if not, he would figure it out.
Every day that passed by helped his body to heal due to the mana from the one core stone he ate. Once his muscles and body were fully recovered, he would be able to run and fly without any issues, but he wouldn't be able to boost his speed with mana at all like he normally did.
The minuscule amount of mana that his core was somehow able to generate on its own was all being used to rejuvenate his tissues, so he was still constantly empty. He had no hope of being able to cast spells any time soon, even cantrips would be detrimental to his core currently.
The good thing though, was that he wasn't worried about any weapons Earth was currently using. Something drastic like a nuclear strike would definitely kill him, but bullets would just shatter upon touching his skin, even if the muscles underneath were still injured.
He was a 4th stage half Obsidian Void dragon that boasted top three in durability among all dragons on Talgonoth. Even if he was shot at, he would be just fine, regardless of the gun or ammo type.
Kayn couldn't wait to have his mana use back though as he would just be able to conceal himself and travel wherever he wanted without the worry of being discovered. In fact, once he landed, he intended to equip the full Garments of the Shadow Phoenix as well as his Deceiver's Mask in order to keep himself hidden in the darkness passively without having to rely on his own mana.
No one in this world would be able to detect him with the passives the gear supplied him. As long as he stuck to the darkness, he could walk right in front of these normal humans and they would never know.
The entity told him to not do anything stupid, so Kayn could only take that as being told not to kill anyone or completely destroy the planet. As at full power, he probably could get close to doing just that since the Earth wasn't protected by ambient mana within everything as Talgonoth was.
Kayn purchased a small backpack in order to carry the small amount of equipment and clothing he bought as he didn't want to seem like he was traveling with nothing.
He was honestly glad that he could buy shoes from Earth, as aside from the self-fitting enchanted boots he owned, the other shoes on Talgonoth were quite uncomfortable. Compared to the shoes on Talgonoth, the new tennis shoes Kayn bought felt like he was walking on clouds.
Kayn made a mental note to purchase Kinzie some self-fitting boots like his own as they were even more comfortable than his new shoes, and she would definitely appreciate it with all of the running around she did.
However, he wore nothing that originated from Talgonoth for his travels, everything was stored inside of the Villa. He didn't want to risk setting off any alarms. Even though they shouldn't have anything that could detect mana, he still wanted to be careful before he had his use of mana back.
However, maybe mana infused gear would falsely trigger an alarm for letting off radiation? He didn't know and he wasn't going to risk it.
The only way to currently travel internationally was on the planes of billion and trillionaires. Hopping on a money making opportunity, anytime they traveled they would offer seats on their private jets to anyone who could pay. The cost for a single ticket? $100,000.
Kayn had already spent over half of the money he made by selling the gold already. He couldn't help but lament being a spendthrift the last week, trying to decide if he should sell more gold at the next location.
However, when he thought about it, by the next time he traveled to the temple he should be able to fly by himself. Granted it would be much slower than a plane, he would still be able to get around the world.
If the temple didn't net him any gains, he was going to completely ignore the rest of them and immediately go into seclusion to figure out a way back home.
After a thorough pat down and search through all of Kayn's things and giving his uncovered ears a funny look, he was allowed onto the plane and shown to his seat. There were five people in total besides the workers and guards, and all of them were wearing some kind of business attire or fancy dress.
Yet, here he was, wearing a hoodie and jeans with tennis shoes on. He took his seat while ignoring the judgmental stares on his back and closed his eyes. He was soon listening to music in his head while the plane took off for its several hour-long flight to Italy, it was a good time for a nap.
…
Kayn woke up feeling a bit of his exhaustion and worries gone, but he didn't feel completely refreshed since he still was devoid of any mana he could utilize in his core. It was a very unsettling feeling, but he was slowly becoming accustomed to it.
After seeing the other passengers on the flight tip the staff several thousand dollars, he copied them before getting off the plane and walked to the customs office that he was required to report to. It was war time so all travel was heavily monitored, even the rich couldn't bypass things as they usually could.
He was asked about his destination and reason for travel, which he answered with the lies he came up with during his couple weeks of waiting and preparation.
His identity? Dr. Kayn Yvaris, a multi-PHD scholar who specialized in archeology, anthropology, theology, and mythology. The hacker was quite good at making a fake person as he wasn't questioned about it at all.
He stated that he was here in order to travel to Greece and join the team trying to uncover the mysteries of Zeus's temple.
The customs officer and guards all thought that he was a bit young looking, but plastic surgery had come a long way these days. Without giving him any trouble he was able to pass through and was even met by a man that offered to take him to Greece via a boat as his job was to help researchers get to the island it was located on.
Kayn was surprised that it was going to be this easy to travel there, so he gladly took the man up on his offer and was on a boat not even an hour later.
As the boat neared the island, Kayn couldn't see anything, but his enhanced hearing told stories of guns being fired and explosives being detonated on the land mass that was just across from his destination.
He was honestly a bit surprised that the governments were allowing researchers here, or why the researchers even wanted to be this close to the battles currently happening and the danger that brought.
Before the boat could actually reach the island though, Kayn struck the man driving the boat on the back of his neck, knocking him out cold. He then jumped into the water and began to swim to shore.
The waters were calm, so the man would be safe and would only wake up with a headache a few hours later wondering what happened.
Once he reached the shore, Kayn pulled out the Wanderer's Villa on the underside of a cliff and entered. He first used a towel to dry off and then changed into the Garments and Deceiver's Mask.
Not even five minutes after he entered, he exited and placed the Villa back into his soul. Kayn then made his way towards the temple site. As it was currently dusk and the sun was falling behind the horizon, his job to stay hidden was quite easy.
The island was quite small, only being a couple of miles or a few kilometers wide. Even before the war it was supposedly uninhabited due to most of the island being a series of steep cliffs that led to a peak about a kilometer above sea level.
However, a stray bombing had blown the peak completely off the mountain and revealed the temple hidden underneath.
Kayn was quickly able to travel up to the now visible temple and weave his way through the numerous tents and people walking around like busy bees. No one noticed the dark clothed figure standing in front of the entrance to the temple.
Kayn stood there in awe and exhilaration as he felt it before even stepping inside. The place was full of mana! He could even tell that it was mostly lightning attributed mana based off of the wind element.
As his excitement reached its peak, he took a step inside.
