Enigma of Sin

Chapter 160: Egyptian Gods

Kayn flew at a leisurely pace. He ended up spending the better part of an entire day just traveling and exploring the various historical attractions of the deserts. He was quite happy at being able to relax his mind for a little bit. The pyramids had seen some major restoration efforts the last two decades, so it was quite the marvel to witness from the sky.

After he was fully satisfied with his act of tourism, he made his first stop at the temple of Ra. One of the interesting things that Kayn noticed, and made a point of for his temple visits was that he was only going to go to the temples belonging to the more powerful of gods and goddesses.

Rather than a temple though, it was a statue of the bird headed god himself, with a massive ball of fire overhead. How this wasn't found way before now was a mystery to Kayn. However, surrounding the feet of the statue were the ruins of a massive pyramid.

He could only assume that the entire statue was once hidden within the pyramid which was in turn covered by rock, and that the massive ball of fire that was acting like a small sun only activated after it was revealed to the sky.

Kayn smiled ruefully as he understood what he had to do, the only question was, could he?

It was quite hot, even from several kilometers away. Knowing that even his body wouldn't be able to withstand the heat, Kayn coated himself with a layer of water mana as he began his approach towards the small sun above the statue.

Unfortunately, the water began evaporating at a rapid pace the closer he got to it. Even with his new and improved control over liquids, he was struggling to keep the water barrier active over his body.

Then it occurred to him that maybe he should try a new approach. Kayn dropped the barrier that was enclosing his body with water and instead covered it in fire.

The difference was immediate. The fire felt soothing rather than scorching as it had only a few minutes prior. A smile appeared on Kayn's face as he was becoming more excited by the second knowing that he was going to really benefit from this place.

With a smile and excitement written on his face, he flew into the ball of flame, covered in his own flames. Once he reached the core of the miniature sun, he floated in a lotus pose with his wings flapping to maintain his height and closed his eyes, activating his Void Star.

39 days later, the onlookers from a distance watched as the giant ball of fire that had been floating in the air for the last few months vanished without a trace.

Kayn himself was smiling brightly as he felt everything that had changed within his body, but rather than dwindling in the area, he flew off towards his second destination.

At the temple of Amun, Kayn marveled as it was similar to Abu Simbel, only far grander. Amun was on par with Ra in terms of power, only he commanded the wind element.

Once Kayn entered inside of the temple, he was immediately hit with winds that were trying to flatten him into the ground, but following along the same principle as before, he covered his body in the wind element and walked in as if taking a stroll in the park.

33 days later, a familiar face was in the same room as Kayn. Dr Elaine was once again pointing her device around, trying to track any of the strange energy she had detected previously.

Kayn had half the mind to destroy the technology in her hand, but she would probably be waving around another in less than half a day. Knowing this, he quietly slipped out without her detecting his trace this time as he was quite careful to avoid her front.

Soaring his way through the sky, now without having to use his wings, Kayn made his way towards the temple of Geb. Geb was a god of earth, and Kayn couldn't help but wonder what kind an affinity to earth he would gain after absorbing the mana from his temple.

Unfortunately for Kayn, Geb's temple wasn't very kind to him. Upon entering, he fell flat onto the ground as he wasn't able to maintain standing. Kayn didn't figure it out right away, but after a few minutes of struggling and trying to stand up, he realized that it was actually the gravity in the area that was extreme.

He tried to coat himself with earth mana as he had with the other two elements, but it didn't help one bit. Kayn's figure was quite pathetic as he crawled forward on the ground, trying to stand up.

He tried everything he could from fusing earth mana with his tissues to creating a sphere of earth mana around himself. In the end, Kayn ended up crawling on the ground until he found the area he assumed he was looking for.

Once he arrived at the center of the formation, the gravity around him reversed and threw him into the air, at least halfway to the ceiling before he met with another wall of gravity that pushed him down.

He felt as if he was caught between two massive vice jaws, trying to crush him into meat paste. However, he focused in order to fortify his body and sat in a lotus position while being crushed from both the bottom and top.

The second he began absorbing the mana using Void Star, his resistances gave out and his mind went black.

By all means Kayn assumed that the millisecond his resistances gave out, he was about to be crushed. But, as Kayn once again opened his mind as his consciousness came back, he noticed that he was now on the ground, with his arms and legs sprawled out to the sides.

Instead of feeling refreshed as he had the last few times, all he felt was pain and exhaustion. The pain mainly stemmed from his bones and he didn't have the ability to focus on examining himself at the moment. He could only hope that some food and sleep would help relieve his body of the discomfort he was currently feeling.

He hadn't felt this stiff in a long time, not even when he arrived on Earth in a pitiful state. Even his mana core was back to being practically empty rather than refilled like usual.

Honestly, his entire experience at the Geb's temple was starting to feel like it wasn't worth it and it was making him feel quite grumpy. He just wanted to go somewhere quiet, bring out the Wanderer's Villa, take a nice bath, and then sleep.

Kayn dragged his feet as he made his way back to the entrance of the temple. He had his head down as he walked and thankfully didn't really have to worry about concealing himself since no one had entered, not to mention the Shadow Phoenix set did it for him naturally.

It was only when Kayn made it to the entrance of the temple that he noticed the odd silence in his surroundings. Even if the researchers couldn't enter, they had been standing around and talking at the entrance when he arrived.

Kayn finally looked up from the ground and could only sigh as he knew what was coming next.

"Fire!"

Multiple gunshots rang out from several people dressed in military uniforms holding all types of automatic rifles. There was even a large turret type machine gun that Kayn could only guess was a .50 caliber.

Standing in the middle back of these people, Kayn saw the familiar face he was beginning to become accustomed to running across. Of course, in her hands was the device that could somehow track him or at least the mana he gave off.

Kayn's body was strong enough to negate the bullets, but he didn't even have to worry about that as the bullets all bounced Garments of the Shadow Phoenix set pieces he was wearing.

Kayn laughed to himself as he knew that none of these people could even see him, their bullets were just hitting something midair and falling to the ground. His mood actually improved a little bit due to the excitement of what their reactions would be once they stopped firing.

Only when all the gun clips ran empty and the string of bullets for the turret stopped, did all of them stand there like they were looking at a ghost, even Dr Elaine had a constipated look on her face.

Kayn thought about it for a moment before activating the voice changer around his neck to be something dark and mysterious.

"That wasn't very nice." Kayn spoke aloud in English before using some of the remaining mana he had to launch into the air and fly off towards Horus's temple.

The military personnel and Dr Elaine stood there in silence. These men and women were some of the best trained professionals in the world, yet they couldn't help but be a bit fearful at what they just witnessed.

Thousands of bullets had just hit a single small area, but they all shattered and fell to the ground upon impacting something invisible. No technology on Earth was capable of that, or they would have it. Who or what did they just shoot at who was so nonchalant about the situation he spoke to them in a chastising manner?
