Chapter 72: Fate of the Obsidian Void Clan
"What did you just say?" Yvaris Earthborn asked once again with a little more force behind his voice as Kayn was too nervous to answer him the first time he asked.
Swallowing down his fear, Kayn opened his mouth, "The Obsidian Void Dragon Clan, that is from whom we originate."
"Hmmm, they were never known to have crossbred in the past. Even in the last million years, there has not been any knowledge of them breeding with another race. Though, I am friends with Emperor Feyan, so I could always just take you two and go see him."
When Kayn heard the name Feyan, his eyes widened as far as they could. He knew this name as it belonged to his grandfather and he learned about it in the Tether's manual.
However, he wasn't sure if or how he should drop the bomb to this seemingly millions of years old dragon. Instead of hesitating, he just decided to be as honest as possible.
"I'm sorry Elder Earthborn, but that wouldn't be possible."
"Haha, what, you think I don't know how to travel to the Void Realm? Or are you scared that I'll discover you're lying to me?" The old man seemed to smirk as he thought Kayn was just getting cold feet from lying to him.
"No Elder, it's not possible because they're all dead. My sister and I are all that is left of the race now."
"There's no way that's possible. No one that lives below the Celestial World would be able to kill the entire Obsidian Void clan, especially Emperor Feyan. That man was a monster in and of himself, especially with those pesky bracelets.
"If you don't stop lying to me, I will see your disrespect as an insult and kill you on the spot. Especially joking about one of my age-old friends." Anger seemed to be seething from the old dragon's eyes now and Kayn was becoming increasingly worried that he would actually die here.
Though, Kayn was momentarily distracted by the old dragon's knowledge of the Tethers. He hoped that he could get more information about them, if he could survive the next few minutes that is.
"I swear I'm not lying to you Elder Earthborn. My mother, Zerana, was the youngest daughter of Emperor Feyan. She was also the only Obsidian Void Dragon to live through the extermination because of my father's intervention as well as her father's sacrifice.
"The clan was hunted to extinction by Celestials that descended to our world, but my mother didn't know the reason why. She mentioned that they were restricted somewhat, but their power was still overwhelming."
Yvaris Earthborn's anger seemed to diminish a bit, and his face showed a bit of intrigue. "If that's the case, take me to your mother and I'll ask her myself."
Kayn's expression instantly turned to one of sorrow, "She was also murdered not long ago, though it wasn't by the people who have been hunting our clan. My mother, father, and older sister were all killed and I was only barely able to escape with my sister's and I's lives after my mother sacrificed herself.
"My mother and father both sacrificed a lot during their escape from the Void Realm, so they weren't nearly as strong as they should have been." Kayn's hands formed into fists and Yvaris could see the rage building in Kayn's eyes.
Yvaris Earthborn waited a few moments before continuing as he held back his questions in order for Kayn to settle down a little. He could tell that the last bit of information was definitely true and it seemed to be a recent trauma for the young man in front of him.
"I believe you, at least that last bit of your story. I can see the loss and anger in your eyes. However, this only proves to make things more difficult if you cannot prove to me that you're actually from the Obsidian Void Dragon clan. Seeing as you're only at the 3rd stage, you probably can't use the void element to prove it to me either."
Kayn's emotions settled a little finally as he didn't feel that he was about to be killed for no reason. "I can't use the void element yet, but I do have another way to prove it to you. You said you were aware of the Legacy Bracelets. If you're aware of the Mana Threads that are created from them and can see them. I can prove it to you that I hail from the Obsidian Void clan."
"Oh? Indeed, I can see most things with my Dragon Eyes, but I don't sense or see the bracelets on your body nor did I ever hear the name of the powers they bestowed on their user as Feyan never told me. But I have seen the effect before, so if you can prove to me that you can make them appear, I'll be more inclined to believe you."
Without thinking further, Kayn started to weave Mana Threads into existence, mostly just letting them dangle down towards the ground. Seeing this, Yvaris Earthborn could barely believe his eyes. He couldn't see the bracelets, nor should a mere 3rd stage be able to use them.
"I can only believe you at this point as no one but Obsidian Void Dragons can use that technique or treasure as they require the void element. I'm honestly more impressed that you can use them at the 3rd stage, you must have practiced for many years. How old are you?"
Kayn gave an awkward smile at that point as revealing his true age with his power level was just as much of a taboo as revealing his clan according to Zerana. "I turned 17 this year Elder."
"17…? That's no possible" Yvaris said in disbelief.
"I have nothing to gain from lying to you Elder. Honestly, I'm hoping to ask you a few questions, so I'm being as honest as possible."
"Truly, you Obsidian Void Dragons are monsters. I've never heard of anyone, no matter the race or background, reaching close to the 4th stage at 17. In fact, I've never even heard of anyone reaching the 3rd stage before 22.
"With you being so close to the 4th stage already, you must have been in the 3rd stage for a few years already. Incredible, truly. You're probably the most talented individual I've met in my entire one and a half million years if you truly are 17."
Suddenly, Elder Earthborn was holding a brown orb that appeared from nowhere. "Put your hand on this."
Being too distracted and overwhelmed by the situation already, Kayn forgot to Analyze the orb and just obediently placed his hand on top of it. He could feel mana invade into his body as it ran through his system before exiting back into the orb.
On the side of the orb that was facing Yvaris Earthborn, a few words started to appear.
[Bone Age: 17; Core Stage: 3]
Yvaris was speechless seeing the results and he was having troubles finding the right words at the moment.
"Um, Elder Earthborn, what did you just do to me?" Kayn asked as he wanted to ensure that nothing too much was revealed, but also that it wouldn't have any negative effects on his body.
Snapping out of his daze, Yvaris quickly answered, "Ah, this is just an identifying artifact. It's similar to an Aptitude Orb, but instead reveals the stage of one's core and their age by examining their bones. To think you were actually 17 though…"
The orb vanished before Kayn could use Analyze on it and they both just stood there in silence for a little while. Crying suddenly echoed out as Lara woke up after being knocked unconscious by the pressure from earlier.
Yvaris Earthborn felt bad after knocking out an infant in a fit of anger, but luckily he didn't kill her outright. Dragons were inherently stronger than other races fortunately, even as infants.
"Come with me, I'll provide you two with safety and food while we talk more." Without another word, Yvaris started to float into the air without wings and even Kayn was being picked up by an unseen force and carried along with the old dragon.
Kayn remained quiet while being carried through the air, trying his best to both calm down his sister and not resist any of the force that was carrying him along. Yvaris Earthborn also seemed deep in thought as he didn't speak any words either.
