"Escanor Reborn: The Might of the Sun in the Marvel Universe"

Chapter 14: Chapter 9: Shadows of the Moon

The flickering light of the secret prison cast eerie shadows across the walls as Alex paced the length of the chamber. Deep below the surface, in a place only he knew, Sebastian Shaw sat bound in restraints designed to nullify his powers. His once-commanding presence was now reduced to bitter silence.

"You're a liability," Alex said, his voice low and firm. "Killing you would've been easier, but I believe in redemption—even for someone like you."

Shaw sneered, though the defiance in his eyes had dimmed. "You think locking me away here changes anything? You can't stop what's coming."

Alex ignored the taunt, turning toward the exit. As the heavy door sealed shut behind him, the room plunged into an oppressive stillness. Shaw's voice echoed faintly, but Alex was already gone, his focus shifting to the next challenge.

News of strange disturbances in Egypt had reached Alex through the X-Men's network. People whispered of a creature stalking the desert under the moonlight, a jackal with eyes of fire and a thirst for blood.

Following the trail of rumors, Alex found himself in Cairo. The city's bustling streets were a stark contrast to the quiet tension that hung in the air. By nightfall, he donned his battle gear and ventured into the desert, guided by an unseen pull toward the heart of the mystery.

The moon hung heavy and full in the night sky as Alex's sharp eyes caught movement in the dunes. A lone figure emerged, cloaked in white and adorned with crescent-shaped armor.

"You're far from home," the man said, his voice steady yet wary. "Who are you?"

"Alex," he replied, stepping forward. The aura of heat and light around him flickered subtly. "You must be Moon Knight."

Marc Spector nodded, his gaze scanning Alex with a mix of curiosity and caution. "The jackal you're hunting isn't an ordinary creature. It's tied to the gods—Set's doing."

Before they could exchange more, a guttural growl pierced the air. From the shadows, the jackal emerged, its hulking form illuminated by the moonlight. Its fiery eyes locked onto them, and without warning, it lunged.

Alex reacted instantly, raising Rhitta to block the creature's strike. Sparks flew as the axe clashed with the jackal's claws. Beside him, Moon Knight leaped into action, his crescent darts slicing through the air with precision.

The battle was fierce, each blow shaking the desert sands. The jackal's supernatural strength was formidable, but Alex's solar energy surged with every strike, the power of the sun channelled into each swing of his axe.

Moon Knight fought with the grace of a seasoned warrior, his movements fluid and deadly. Together, they pushed the creature back, their combined might overwhelming even the jackal's divine fury.

As the beast faltered, Alex seized the opportunity. His body ignited with solar flames, and with a mighty roar, he brought Rhitta down, cleaving the jackal in two. Its body disintegrated into a burst of light, leaving only silence in its wake.

Marc stood beside Alex, his breathing heavy. "You're not just a mutant," he said, his tone edged with intrigue. "There's something... divine about you."

Alex smirked, wiping sweat from his brow. "Let's just say I have a complicated history."

Over the next few days, the two men grew closer. Marc shared his struggles with Khonshu, the Egyptian god who had both cursed and blessed him. Alex, in turn, revealed glimpses of his own journey—his powers, his battles, and the burden of his growing responsibilities.

One night, under the pale glow of the moon, Marc spoke with uncharacteristic vulnerability. "You fight like someone who carries the weight of the world on their shoulders. Why do you do it?"

Alex stared at the horizon, his voice quiet yet firm. "Because I can. Because someone has to. And because if I don't, who will?"

Their bond deepened as they worked together to uncover the source of the jackal's emergence. They discovered a hidden temple devoted to Set, filled with artifacts radiating dark energy.

"This isn't just about the jackal," Marc said, examining a blood-stained altar. "Set's followers are preparing for something bigger."

Alex's expression hardened. "Then we stop it before it starts."

The two warriors dismantled the temple, their combined strength shattering the ancient relics and neutralizing the dark energy. Yet, Alex couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the beginning.

As they stood amidst the ruins, Marc placed a hand on Alex's shoulder. "You're not alone in this fight. If you ever need an ally, you know where to find me."

Alex nodded, a rare smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Same goes for you. Just don't let Khonshu drag you too deep into his madness."

Before parting ways, Alex forged a small charm from a fragment of the temple's remains, imbuing it with solar energy. "Keep this," he said, handing it to Marc. "It'll light your path when the darkness gets too thick."

Marc accepted the charm with a quiet nod, his gratitude unspoken but evident in his eyes.

As Alex watched Moon Knight disappear into the shadows, he felt a sense of purpose reignite within him. The world was vast and filled with countless battles yet to come, but for the first time in a while, he felt like he wasn't fighting alone.

He turned his gaze to the horizon, the first rays of dawn breaking over the desert. With renewed resolve, he spread his dragon-like wings and took to the skies, ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
