Chapter 101: And They All Die
Chrona couldn't comprehend what had just happened. One moment, they were all laughing together, and the next, Summer lay dead, her lifeless body crumpled on the cold ground. The shift was so abrupt, so violent, that it left her breathless.
"Summer!" Chrona gasped, her voice trembling with disbelief. She stared at her fallen friend, her mind struggling to accept the gruesome reality. The warmth of their banter had been ripped away, replaced by horror.
Without hesitation, Chrona activated her time-reversal ability, [Chrono Break]. The world shimmered, colors blurring as time rewound itself. The room spun backward, seconds ticking in reverse as Summer's death was undone, the blood and shattered bone vanishing like a nightmare that never happened.
But Chrona was trembling. The weight of the Reaper's presence shattered her concentration. Her ability could only rewind a few seconds, and she couldn't go any further without pushing her mind beyond its limits. In her current state of fear, that kind of control was impossible.
Summer's death was undone, but before Chrona could even breathe a sigh of relief, it happened again. The Reaper's unseen force snapped forward with lightning speed, and Summer's skull was once again crushed. The sound of her body hitting the floor echoed, a sickening thud that sent waves of nausea through Chrona.
"No! No, no, no!" she screamed, panic twisting her voice as she activated [Chrono Break] once more. But it was futile. Every time she rewound, the Reaper's strike came faster, more brutal. She was caught in a horrific loop, Summer dying over and over before her eyes.
Chrona collapsed to her knees, the strain on her mind too much to bear. "Why... why can't I stop this?" she muttered, the despair gripping her like a vice. Her vision blurred, her head throbbing from the exertion, but the Reaper wasn't done.
With cold, methodical precision, the Reaper turned his focus to May, the pink-haired girl already summoning her ability, [Shield Ram]. A translucent barrier shimmered into existence around her, crackling with energy. But the Reaper's sharp, gauntleted fingers tore through the shield as though it were paper.
He moved faster than anyone could react, his hand clamping around May's throat with brutal efficiency. The sickening snap of her neck echoed in the room as her body crumpled to the floor, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"May, no!" Chrona cried out, her voice breaking. She was powerless, trapped in this nightmare. And it wasn't over yet.
"You bastard!" Caden roared, fury igniting his features. He extended his arms, his telekinetic ability [Mind Force] surging to life. A visible wave of force shot toward the Reaper, aiming to throw him across the room. But the Reaper didn't flinch. An unseen gravitational field surrounded him, deflecting the attack with ease, like brushing away an insect.
The Reaper's next target was Ping. With a swift motion, he reached out and dragged the dark-haired young man toward him.
Ping's ability, [Tech Ride], allowed him to manipulate technology, but against the Reaper's sheer physical might, it was useless. The Reaper plunged his hand into Ping's chest with merciless precision.
The sound of flesh tearing was wet, grotesque. When he pulled his hand free, he held Ping's still-beating heart, the organ pulsing weakly before going still. Ping's eyes, wide with shock, faded into emptiness as his body crumpled lifelessly to the ground.
"Ping!" Caden's voice broke with anguish, the sight of his friend's heart being ripped out driving him into a frenzy. His telekinesis surged, and with a furious roar, he ripped the roof of the building clean off, the structure groaning under the force.
Caden's hands clenched, lifting chunks of nearby buildings, twisting them into rubble before hurling them at the Reaper with everything he had.
But the debris stopped mid-air, halted by an unseen force just before it reached its target.
Chris, standing beside Caden, activated his own ability, [Displace]. With a wave of his hand, the Reaper was teleported into the sky above them, vulnerable with no cover to hide behind.
For a moment, it looked like the tables had turned. But the Reaper was unphased. With a flick of his wrist, his sword, gleaming with a deadly edge, flew through the air with terrifying precision.
Chris barely had time to register what was happening before the blade cleaved through his neck, severing his head clean off. Blood sprayed in an arc, Chris's lifeless body collapsing as his head rolled to a stop in front of Caden.
He landed next to Anne's unconscious form.
"Chris!" Christina's scream tore through the air, the sound of her brother's death shattering what little hope remained. "No!"
Grief and rage overtook her as she teleported toward the Reaper, her fist colliding with the side of his hood. But the blow didn't faze him. Instead, he chuckled, a low, sinister sound that sent a chill through everyone present.
"Pathetic," he hissed, his voice dripping with contempt. "You are weak. Submit... or die."
Christina had no time to react before the Reaper's blade struck again. Her head flew from her shoulders, blood painting the ground as her body collapsed beside her brother's.
"I suppose she chose death," the Reaper muttered coldly, his voice devoid of any emotion.
The Reaper lifted Anne's unconscious form behind him as Caden, now consumed by madness, unleashed a cyclone of destruction. Entire buildings were torn from their foundations, hurled through the air with devastating force. The area was consumed by chaos, the debris raining down like a storm of stone and metal.
"Lucky, protect her!" Caden shouted, his voice thick with desperation. "The rest of you, scatter!"
Lucky moved swiftly, grabbing Chrona and shielding her with his body. His ability, [Lucky Break], activated just in time, allowing them to dodge the falling debris by mere inches. But others weren't so fortunate. The rubble crushed them, their screams silenced beneath the weight of the destruction. Only Caden, the Reaper, and Anne remained standing.
The Reaper's glowing violet eyes fixated on Anne's blood-streaked face. With a slow, deliberate motion, he hovered his hand over her wound, a silent promise of vengeance in the air. He raised his other hand, and with a flick of his wrist, a jagged piece of metal shot toward Chrona, too fast for her to react.
The metal pierced her heart with a sickening sound, pain erupting through her chest like fire. She collapsed to the ground, her vision darkening, the cold embrace of death closing in as the Reaper's fury consumed the world.
The entire battle had taken less than a minute.
'It hur... hurts... I d...don't want to die.'
That was the last thought that flickered through Chrona's mind as she felt the life drain from her body.
Chrona's eyes snapped open, her heart pounding in her chest. She blinked, trying to focus. The sight before her was almost surreal—everyone was alive, laughing as they had been before the Reaper arrived.
It was as if the nightmare had never happened. She looked around, disoriented, her breath coming in shallow gasps. Her trembling hands let go of the snack bag she had been holding, sending it tumbling to the floor with a soft thud.
"Ahhh... ahhhhh," she trembled, unable to speak, the sensation of dying still vivid in her memory.
The others turned towards her, puzzled by her sudden outburst.
"What's the problem, Chrona?" Maya asked, concern lacing her voice.
Chrona's eyes darted around the room, her breath hitching as she took in the sight of each of her friends—alive, laughing, oblivious.
"Y-you… you guys are… you're alive," she stammered, her voice breaking, tears rolling down her eyes.
The reality of it overwhelmed her, and she fell to her knees, her body shaking with the force of her sobs.
Confusion spread across the faces of her friends. The middle-aged man, John, quickly approached her, kneeling beside her with a look of deep concern.
"Hey, kid, are you okay? What happened? You can tell your Uncle John everything."
"What did you mean by 'you're alive'?" Caden asked, his brows furrowing in worry as he tried to make sense of her words.
Chrona's voice trembled, each word soaked in terror.
"No… w-we all died… I saw it… I lived it… I died… we all did. First, it… it was Summer, then… oh God, we are all going to die in a few minutes. He's coming to kill us." Tears streamed down her face as she spoke, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Christina exchanged a worried glance with Petra, who nodded in silent understanding. Petra crouched beside Chrona, her voice soft but urgent.
"Chrona, tell us what happened."
"Yeah, who kills us?" Christina added, her voice shaking slightly.
"Him… the Reaper. He comes for her," Chrona whispered, pointing a trembling finger toward Anne.
Anne's face twisted in confusion. "M-me? Why would the Reaper want me?"
Chrona's eyes were wide with fear, her voice barely above a whisper.
"He will come. He's going to break through that wall, and he will kill us all," she said, her voice trembling with desperation.
Summer, unnerved by Chrona's intensity, activated her Clairvoyance ability, [Remote Eye].
She scanned the building, her eyes glowing with a faint light as she extended her awareness.
"We're the only ones in this building, and it's daytime. The Reaper only appears at night."
"No… he will come here. I lived it, I swear! I don't know how, but my ability brought me back in time, so please believe me!" Chrona pleaded, her voice breaking as she desperately tried to convince them.
Caden, taking a deep breath, stood up from where he had been sitting. His gaze was steady as he looked at Chrona, then the others.
"We believe you," he said firmly, his voice leaving no room for doubt.
The room fell silent as the gravity of his words settled over them.
"You heard her, guys. The Reaper is coming to kill us. We need a plan, and we need to know his abilities and how we all die," Caden continued, his mind already working to strategize their next move.
He turned to Petra, determination in his eyes. "Petra, use your Psychometry to share the memories of Chrona with the rest of us. We can start a plan from there."
Petra nodded, her expression serious. She reached out, placing her hand gently on Chrona's forehead. A soft glow surrounded them as Petra activated her ability, [Mind Burst]. A wave of emotions and images flooded Petra's mind—Chrona's memories of the brutal massacre, the horror of watching her friends die, the terror of her own death.

Petra gasped, her hand trembling slightly as she processed the intensity of Chrona's experiences. She looked at the others, her eyes filled with a newfound urgency.
"It's true… everything she said is true. We die horribly, one by one. The Reaper is ruthless, and his power is terrifying."
John, his expression calm, spoke up.
"Then we need to change the outcome. We need to fight smarter, not harder. We know he's coming through that wall. We'll set up a trap, something he won't expect."
"Right," Caden agreed, his mind racing.
Petra shared the memories with them by holding hands together.
"We need to keep our distance. Ranged attacks only. We can't let him get close enough to use his sword. Chris, you and I will be the vanguard. We use my telekinesis to hurl anything we can at him—rocks, debris, whatever we can find. You just need to teleport different things to support me.
May, you focus on shielding us. Your [Shield Ram] needs to be stronger than ever."
"I'll do my best," May said, steeling herself for the battle to come.
Christina, her voice tight with focus, added, "And if he targets Anne again, we need to make sure she's protected. She's the key to all of this."
Anne, though still confused, nodded firmly. "I'll do whatever I can to help. I won't be a liability."
"We'll also need to rely on Lucky's [Lucky Break] to keep things in our favor," Caden continued.
"And Chrona, if you can reverse time again if things go south, do it. We'll need every second we can get."
Chrona, still shaken, nodded weakly. "I'll try… I'll do whatever it takes to keep us alive, but he has an aura that makes it difficult to breathe or move. It interferes with our processing power... my processing power isn't that great when I'm scared, but I'll try my best."
"Good," Caden said, his voice resolute. "We're going to survive this. We're not going to let the Reaper win."
They quickly began setting up, each of them ready to change the outcome they had seen in Chrona's memories. Weapons were readied, powers were prepared, and as the tension in the room grew, so did their resolve.
"Remember, the Reaper can manipulate gravity, so stay clear of his control radius. We'll need to keep our distance, but we can't rely on that alone," John advised, his voice calm but laced with urgency.
"I'll focus on maintaining as much distance as possible with my flames and keeping him away," Maya added, her hands already glowing with a soft luminescence.
"If we keep him at bay and avoid his range, it'll reduce his advantage," Caden added, pacing slightly as his mind ran through their options.
"We also need to use his unpredictability against him. I have a feeling that the way he attacked us before wasn't just random—he's calculated, but we need to make him overplay his hand," Christina said, her voice firm.
"If we can force him to take risks, we can exploit them."
"Right use his own arrogance against him"
The room fell silent as they all waited, bracing for the moment when the Reaper would break through the wall and unleash his fury. Time ticked by slowly, each second feeling like an eternity.
And then, with a deafening crash, the wall shattered, and the Reaper appeared, his violet eyes glowing menacingly under his hood. But this time, the Espers were ready.
