Chapter 7: Arrival at Eryndale
The cold wind brushed against Taylor's face as they entered Eryndale. The village lay nestled within an ancient forest, its silence almost enchanted. Giant tree roots wove together like eternal sentinels, guarding the settlement. Moss-covered wooden buildings stood quietly under the moonlight, and at the heart of the village, Lunaria Tower loomed tall, its peak glowing faintly with magic.
Taylor shivered—not from the cold, but from the weight pressing against her heart. Each step toward the village felt like an admission that she was a danger, a threat.
Behind her, Alex smirked, his tone as sharp as ever. "Care to guess? Will they welcome you with open arms or toss you out on sight?"
"Alex," Ethan warned, his voice cold and clipped as usual.
Liam said nothing, his brooding gaze focused on Taylor. Though she knew his silence wasn't malicious, it still cut deeper than any words.
The village of Eryndale stood under a gray sky, hidden behind the protective embrace of the forest. The air here felt different—each breeze carried whispers of ancient spells. Small wooden houses lined the cobblestone paths, surrounded by herb gardens that exuded calming aromas. Candlelight flickered in the windows, casting a warm glow, though the atmosphere was tinged with caution.
Taylor drew in a shaky breath, trying to push away her anxiety. Behind her, Ethan remained ever watchful, his eyes scanning every corner of the village. Liam kept his quiet vigilance, while Alex, with his almost mocking grin, murmured, "Feels like walking into a beehive, doesn't it?"
Before Taylor could respond, Nyssa Aelwin approached. The village leader, with her long silver hair and deep green cloak, exuded a presence that made Taylor feel small. Yet, when Nyssa spoke, her voice was gentle.
"You must be weary from your journey," she said, nodding briefly at Ethan. "I've prepared a place for you to rest."
"Thank you," Ethan replied curtly, his tone polite but distant.
Nyssa led them down the village's main path. The villagers paused their work to watch, their eyes filled with curiosity and unease. A few children peeked from behind their parents' legs before scurrying away. Taylor felt like an intruder, an anomaly disrupting their peace.

They were brought to a small wooden house at the edge of the village, surrounded by tall elder trees. Inside, the space was simple yet warm. A small fire crackled in the hearth, casting flickering shadows on the walls. A wooden table at the center of the room held plates of warm food—freshly baked bread, mushroom stew, and steaming cups of herbal tea.
Taylor hesitated, her gaze lingering on the food. "Is this... for us?" she asked softly.
Nyssa offered a faint smile, though her eyes remained sharp. "Our village may be humble, but we do not let our guests go hungry."
Alex wasted no time settling at the table, grabbing a piece of bread. "Finally, a proper welcome," he muttered, earning a sharp sigh from Ethan. Taylor shook her head but couldn't stop a small smile from tugging at her lips.
As they ate, Nyssa spoke. "Tomorrow morning, we'll begin to understand your abilities, Taylor. But tonight, you should rest. You'll need your strength."
Taylor stared down at her hands, the weight of her power heavy in her chest. "I don't know if I can... control this," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
Nyssa studied her carefully. "Your power is a double-edged sword, Taylor. It can protect, or it can destroy. But you don't have to face it alone. Here, we will help you."
Exploring Eryndale. The next morning, Nyssa guided Taylor and her companions through the village. She showed them the heart of Eryndale—the herbal gardens, where plants for potions and spells grew in abundance, and the training grounds where young witches practiced their craft. All paths seemed to converge toward Lunaria Tower, its presence both intimidating and inspiring.
Taylor paused in front of a small park where children played with orbs of glowing light, tossing them into the air like colorful stars. She smiled faintly, but the smile faded when one of the children noticed her and quickly ran away.
"They're scared of me," Taylor whispered, her voice trembling.
"Not fear," Nyssa replied softly, standing beside her. "They just don't understand yet. But time changes many things."
At one corner of the village, they encountered Selene, a young witch with jet-black hair and piercing eyes. Arms crossed, Selene regarded Taylor with open disdain.
"You've brought chaos to this village," Selene said bluntly. "Was it worth it?"
Taylor wanted to respond, but Nyssa raised a hand, silencing her. "Selene, we each have our roles to play. Do not forget that this village has survived because of others' sacrifices, too."
Selene scoffed and walked away, leaving Taylor with her words ringing in her ears.

The Tower of Lunaria
As night fell, Nyssa took Taylor to Lunaria Tower for a private conversation. The tower's interior pulsed with ancient energy, every corner alive with faint whispers of enchantments.
"Taylor," Nyssa began, her gaze unwavering. "Your potential is immense, but so is the danger you bring. This village is safe, but it won't be forever. If you don't learn to control your power, you could destroy far more than yourself."
Taylor nodded, though fear clenched her heart. "I'll try," she said softly.
Ethan, standing near the door, finally spoke, his voice steady and firm. "You won't face this alone. We're here to protect you."
Alex, leaning casually against the wall, added with a sly grin, "And we won't let you blow up the village... at least not yet."
Even Liam, ever silent, gave a small nod. "We'll start small," he said quietly. "You just have to trust us."
Taking a deep breath, Taylor felt a flicker of hope. For the first time, she believed she might not have to carry this burden alone. She wasn't ready for the challenges ahead, but with their support, she was willing to try.
