Fairy Tail: Strongest Creature

Chapter 106: Crossing the Line

"The rules are simple.

The last one standing wins—our Fairy Tail free-for-all!

If you want these girls restored to normal, try your best to knock us down. We're only four against nearly a hundred of you—quite an uphill battle for us, ahahaha!

If you fail to defeat us within three hours, these girls will crumble to dust."

Many members of Fairy Tail were stunned.

"What?! That's insane!"

"Don't do it…"

"The battlefield is the entire city of Magnolia. Come find us and fight."

Makarov was furious. The thing he despised most was guildmates fighting each other.

"Laxus!! Stop playing around!!" Makarov's body swelled as he assumed a giant form.

Laxus raised a finger. "Don't be so hasty—enjoy this festival sideshow."

A bright flash from Laxus's fingertip forced people to shield their eyes with their arms.

"Fairy Tail free-for-all, begin!!"

When everyone looked again, Laxus and his companions were gone.

"They vanished!!"

"Are they planning to play hide-and-seek around town?!"

"Damn it!! We gotta save our sisters!!"

"Those bastards—!"

"Let's go get Laxus!"

"Yeah, beat 'im up!"

Fairy Tail members burst out of the guild in anger. They'd once held back since Laxus was the Master's grandson, but they were all mages—fierce at heart. Being looked down on only made them madder.

Makarov stomped toward the door. "I'm gonna sort them out!!"

Duang—!!

He smacked into something invisible at the threshold, as though hitting a wall of air.

Gray frowned. "Master, what're you doing?"

"There's… an invisible wall here! I can't get through!" Makarov pressed on empty air, but it wouldn't budge.

"Huh? There's no wall, old man." Gray walked out just fine. Others also hurried through without problem, feeling no barrier at all.

Makarov tried again, but to no avail.

"What's going on?!"

"You mean there's actually an invisible wall for just the Master?!"

At that moment, glowing text appeared in the air.

"Is this Freed's enchantment script?"

Makarov nodded grimly. "Yes. A trap-based barrier set around the guild. If you step into it, you either obey its rules or you can't leave. Look here."

Words floated in the air:

[Rule: No one 80 years old or above, nor any statue, may exit.]

One of the guild members grumbled. "Why do we have to obey Freed's random conditions?"

Makarov explained, "Constructing these scripts is time-consuming, so it's unsuited for high-speed combat. But it's ideal for setting traps. If you try to break it, you'll need tremendous force, and you might end up destroying the entire guild. I never imagined Freed had gotten so powerful."

"So their plan was to keep you from participating right from the start?" Gray concluded. "Well then, it's up to the rest of us."

"Oooh!"

Gray and most of the others rushed out to search for Laxus.

Meanwhile, Su Yan remained in the guild, staring grimly at the petrified girls. Laxus's actions were utterly unacceptable—he was attacking his own guildmates, crossing a line that no one should cross.

"Su Yan…" Makarov fretted upon seeing Su Yan stand silently on the stage.

Su Yan glanced at the Master with a half-smile. "Don't worry, old man. They'll be fine. But Laxus has crossed the line."

"I won't kill them, but I'll give them a lasting lesson—they need to learn what can and can't be done."

Makarov sighed. He could tell Su Yan was genuinely furious. He also knew Laxus had grown strong, but he doubted Laxus could beat Su Yan. Now only Su Yan could stop him.

"Su Yan, you—"

"Master, don't be angry. It's just a few bratty kids making trouble. I'll finish them off soon."

With that, Su Yan activated his Haki to heighten his senses. Though not as advanced as foreseeing the future, it greatly expanded his detection range.

"All right. I'm off." Su Yan strode out of the guild, intent on finding Evergreen to reverse the petrification, then dealing with Laxus.

As he left, more text appeared on the barrier by the door:

[Fairy Tail Free-for-all: Latest Battle Results]
