Chapter 11: Week 2 : Day 2-2 (Evening to Tomorrow) : Yamamoto : True Element (1)

"You're so exhausted," Yamamoto said as he pedaled his bike with Saya riding on the back. Though the sun had already set, they weren't returning home as late as they initially thought. The reason? Hibari had cut baseball practice short today.

The chaos at school had left Saya drained. After finishing the bento boxes, she had to wait for Hibari to taste them.

Hibari even came to sit in the home economics clubroom, causing everyone to feel uneasy. Some were so frightened they trembled, viewing the girl as both a troublemaker and a lifesaver at the same time.

When it was time to serve the food, everyone was on edge, wondering if Saya's cooking would pass or fail. When Hibari used his chopsticks to pick up some yakisoba, someone even fainted on the spot.

"…Delicious." Then, Hibari finished the entire plate.

"I'm in a good mood today, so I'll let this slide," Hibari remarked before getting up and leaving, throwing one last comment to Saya as he went.

"Tomorrow… I want katsudon."

"Understood, Hibari-san," Saya replied. With that, Hibari exited the room along with Tetsuya, and peace returned to the home economics clubroom once again.

"Well… it couldn't be helped," Saya said, tightening her grip slightly on Yamamoto's shirt. "But… this isn't the way to my house."

"Yeah… Reborn told me to take you to Tsuna's place today."

"…Because tomorrow's Sky Flame training, right?" Saya guessed.

"That's part of it… but Reborn's called a meeting for everyone today. Not sure if Hibari or Chrome will show, though."

Saya didn't know who Chrome was, but she felt they were probably a decent person. However, someone else who made her uneasy came to mind. "What about Mukuro?"

Yamamoto paused before answering, "He won't be coming."

"…Really?" Saya felt a bit relieved upon hearing that.

"Yeah," Yamamoto replied with a gentle tone. "So, don't worry, Saya-chan."

"Okay."

After a while, they've arrived at Tsuna's house. When they arrived and Saya dismounted the bike, something embarrassing happened.

Growl...

Saya's face flushed red as her stomach growled, prompting Yamamoto, who had parked the bike, to ask with a soft smile, "Hungry?"

Saya nodded. "Well… I did use a lot of energy today."

"Let's head inside. Can you walk, okay?" He raised his hand to steady her without making contact. Saya, feeling genuinely lightheaded from hunger, slowly made her way to the door. When they rang the bell, a cheerful voice answered before someone came to open the door.

"Good evening, Miss Sawada. Sorry to bother you," Yamamoto greeted.

"Oh, Yamamoto-kun! Come in, come in!" Sawada Nana, Tsuna's mother, a lively woman with short brown hair, wearing a green apron over a striped shirt, welcomed them warmly. She turned her gaze to Saya. "And who's this? Are you Yamamoto's girlfriend? You're so cute!"

"Ah, no, ma'am. I'm a friend of Sawada-kun and Yamamoto-kun. My name is Saya Tomoe." Saya bowed politely, feeling a bit dizzy but forcing herself to maintain decorum. Yamamoto quickly steadied her, catching Nana's attention.

"Oh! Tomoe? Are you the daughter of Mikasa Tomoe?" she asked excitedly. "She was so stunning in her modeling days! Even though she's retired now, she was gorgeous. And her wedding dress last month was absolutely beautiful!"

"…Yes, that's my mother," Saya replied with a strained smile. Yamamoto noticed her discomfort and quickly changed the subject.

"Miss, we're starving," he said with a wide grin.

"Oh, my, where are my manners! Come in, come in," Tsuna's mom exclaimed, ushering them inside.

Once inside, they saw Tsuna, Ryohei, Lambo, I-Pin, Reborn, Fon, and a few others dressed in Kokuyo school uniforms. Among them were two boys and a girl Saya didn't recognize.

One boy, with short hair and glasses that made his eyes appear narrow, wore a beanie and had a reserved demeanor, giving him a nerdy vibe. The other boy, with spiky blond hair and a long scar across his nose, looked rather rough and rebellious.

As for the girl… there was something about her that reminded Saya of Mukuro. She was slender and elegant, with one eye covered.

"Glad you could make it, Saya-chan," Reborn greeted her from the floor with a smile.

"Good evening, Reborn-san," Saya replied.

"I've called you here today for something important. But first, let me introduce the others you haven't met yet. This is Chrome Dokuro, the Guardian of Mist."

The purple-haired girl who resembled Mukuro stepped forward, her bright and sweet smile putting Saya at ease. "H-Hello, I'm Chrome Dokuro, the Mist Guardian of the Vongola Family."

The warmth of Chrome's smile was so infectious that Saya couldn't help but smile back. "I'm Saya Tomoe. You can just call me Saya."

For some reason, a faint aura of lilies seemed to surround the two as they exchanged smiles, causing the boys around them to twitch in irritation.

"Ahem," Gokudera cleared his throat, breaking the atmosphere. Tsuna turned to Reborn and asked, "So, what's this all about?"

"Oh," Reborn began but suddenly went silent as a bubble of snot appeared from his nose. Veins throbbed on Tsuna's temple as he yelled, "If it's important, stop falling asleep!"

"Sorry, sorry," Reborn replied, the snot bubble popping as he sat up. "First of all, this."

He held up a capsule that looked like a rainbow-colored candy. "Gokudera, explain."

Gokudera adjusted his stance and began, "Janini and I analyzed several components in the medicine Future Me developed, along with Saya's blood. The results showed that her elemental flames are distributed unevenly. Despite the intense events she's been through, none of her flames stand out as dominant because their strengths are too close in balance.

"So, before starting full treatment, we need to determine Saya's true elemental attribute. This capsule will temporarily force her original flame to manifest at full power. For example, if Saya's true element is Wind, a strong storm might occur."

This time, Reborn continued speaking. "It seems risky, but after calculating several factors and reviewing Jhang Ni Ni's research, I think that if a guardian of the same attribute is nearby, there shouldn't be any problems.

Considering the sequence of flames, which repeated twice last week, it's unlikely that the elements will randomly shift. If nothing major changes, we should seize this opportunity—it might be one of the better treatment options."

"For today, it's Yamamoto's turn, so I'll have Saya go to his house. Tomorrow, the Sky Flame should appear, so I'll have Saya stay at Tsuna's house. If anything happens, they can assist her in time."

"In that case… does that mean I'll have to stay at Hibari's house on the day the Cloud Flame erupts?" Saya asked, a shiver running through her body. "And Mukuro too…"

"I'll handle the matter with Hibari myself. As for Mukuro, if the Mist Flame reappears, I'll have Chrome take care of you. However, they might need to stay at your place."

"No problem. The more, the merrier," Saya said with a smile.

"In that case, you can count it on me" Chrome replied, smiling back. It felt as if a field of lilies bloomed beautifully around her, bathed in radiant sunlight. If left any longer, it seemed one might even catch the scent of flowers wafting in the air.

Yamamoto gently pulled Saya a little closer and gave her a soft smile. The dreamy atmosphere disappeared instantly, replaced by a serene calm like a still pond. "You're hungry, aren't you, Saya-chan?"

"…Yes," Saya replied, still slightly puzzled. Nonetheless, she nodded obediently. Dinner began shortly after, and Saya seemed to particularly enjoy chatting with Chrome, Nana. With woman the same, they naturally had many shared topics of interest.

Yamamoto found himself watching her now and then. He couldn't quite understand why he had been so drawn to looking at her lately. But before he knew it, his gaze had already settled on her once again.

After dinner, Reborn told Nana go buy to something and she go.

"I'm going to the bathroom first," Gokudera said as he walked out. Reborn waited for Tsuna's mother to clear the dishes before heading upstairs with Rambo and Yiping, then spoke up. "Now, take this medicine."

Reborn handed Saya a rainbow-colored capsule. She took it without hesitation and stared at it for a moment before swallowing it.

Ten minutes passed.

Nothing happened yet...

"It might take a little while," Reborn commented.

"It's pouring rain outside," Gokudera entered, soaked through. At that moment, Saya felt a strange sensation as if her body were about to drown. Suddenly, bubbles emerged from beneath her skin, and before she knew it, the water in the room quickly rose, causing everyone to be submerged. Only Reborn, wearing a green diving mask, seemed unaffected—obviously Leon.

Saya could swim, but in this situation, she wouldn't be able to hold her breath for long. Yamamoto quickly swam over to Saya, igniting a flame before holding her hand. However, the phenomenon didn't settle down easily. The girl's face started to show signs of suffocation, so Yamamoto made the decision to hold her close and pressed his lips to hers, sharing air.

For two to three minutes, the water level gradually started to drop. Everyone was drenched, but there were only two people who remained in that position. When Yamamoto finally pulled away slowly, his worried expression showed a hint of regret.

Everyone around them was stunned and embarrassed by the scene. Even the two of them were equally awkward and slowly pulled apart.

"What the hell just happened?!" Ken shouted, shaking off the water like a wet dog, causing Jinguza next to him to raise her hand to shield herself.

"What the hell did you just do?" Jinguza yelled before turning to Saya. "So… this is why we needed Chrome to look after you, right?"

"It looks like the effect of the medicine might have been stronger than expected," Reborn commented. "It's a good thing we have a guardian nearby."

"So… if other elemental fires appear like this, will it be the same?" Tsuna asked.

"No, Tsuna," Gokudera explained, "Only the element that has already been inside her from the beginning will cause a clear eruption like this."

"Then it's possible her native element has a rain attribute too," Reborn added.

"Seems that way."

"In that case, we should let Kyoko know beforehand," Ryohei said thoughtfully, suddenly recalling something disturbing. "And what will happen if the sakura blossoms again?"

"Bad luck, obviously," Reborn replied simply, but Saya smiled nervously, recalling the last time the sakura bloomed.

"Looks like for safety's sake, we'll need to have Yamamoto stay here for the time being," he nodded, still holding Saya's hand, with his hand still emitting rain flames.

The warmth mixed with a chill that sent a shiver through Saya, making her glance at Yamamoto's face, which met hers in return.

"And though it's a bit rude, I think Saya and Yamamoto should sleep close together tonight, and we'll meet in the morning for a briefing," Reborn instructed.

That night, after everyone was ordered to rest, they began tidying up until the room was dry enough to be usable. Saya and Yamamoto were told to sleep in Tsuna's room, with Tsuna joining them.

Yamamoto and Tsuna slept on the floor, with the tan-skinned boy keeping the rain flame lit, holding Saya's hand as she lay on the bed, while Tsuna slept soundly. Before they slowly drifted off, Saya felt something.

The cool and calm blue flame beside her, like the stillness of water, was undoubtedly Yamamoto's. But farther away, she sensed another blue flame, burning fiercely and brightly. It was a dark blue flame, like the depths of the sea—deep and consuming.

But that sensation slowly faded, replaced by the warm gentleness of an orange flame. The lightness of it reminded her of the embrace of the sky—a sky full of kindness.
