**Chapter 15: Beginning of Turmoil**

"Xiao Chen, come back with me tonight. Lao Lu wants us to have dinner together," Lu Xiaoye's text message popped up on Su Chen's phone.

"OK," he replied briefly.

After sending the message, Su Chen opened "Cultivation of Immortality" to check on his progress.

"Fifty experience points per in-game day. With the high-grade spiritual root, my cultivation efficiency has improved significantly," he noted, satisfied.

"This way, I don't need to waste time on sect missions anymore. The character can stick to meditation and cultivation."

Adjusting the idle mode to prioritize cultivation, Su Chen stood up and left the training room.

"Lao Lu, I'm back!"

"Wow, Lao Lu, did you win the lottery? You've made so many dishes today!"

As Lu Xiaoye burst through the door, the aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air. Excited, she kicked off her shoes, ignored her slippers, and bolted to the dining table, chopsticks in hand.

Before she could take her first bite, a figure appeared silently behind her and delivered a swift chop to the back of her head.

"Ow!"

Clutching her head in pain, Lu Xiaoye turned to protest. "Lao Lu! Why did you hit me?"

Uncle Lu, wearing an apron, stood behind her with a frown. "The guests haven't even touched their chopsticks yet. Why are you eating first?"

"And stop calling me Lao Lu! Have some respect for your elders."

"Xiao Chen isn't an outsider, so why make such a fuss?" she grumbled but obediently put her chopsticks down.

Unlike his strict demeanor toward Lu Xiaoye, Uncle Lu's attitude toward Su Chen was warm and kind.

"Xiao Chen, you're here! A few more dishes and we'll be ready to eat."

"Thank you for having me, Uncle Lu," Su Chen replied politely.

"Of course! If you weren't here, I don't know how much trouble that hot-headed girl would've caused at school."

"Hey! What do you mean? I'm the genius of No. 1 High School, protecting Xiao Chen at school!" Lu Xiaoye interjected from the living room.

Uncle Lu rolled his eyes. "You? Without your random awakening of innate magical power, what could you do? Get lost in your own neighborhood again?"

"Ugh, that was one time!" she snapped, turning red.

"Oh? Wasn't that you crying on the ground because you couldn't find your way home?"

Lu Xiaoye huffed. "I'm not talking to you anymore. You're boring." She stormed off to the living room to watch TV, leaving Uncle Lu and Su Chen laughing.

In the kitchen, Su Chen rolled up his sleeves. "Uncle Lu, let me help."

"Alright, then you handle the two-spirit fish I just bought. I'll make pickled fish to replenish your energy," Uncle Lu said, stirring a pot of stewing meat.

As Su Chen cleaned the fish, Uncle Lu asked, "How's school? Has Xiaoye been causing you trouble?"

"Not at all. Everything's fine," Su Chen assured him.

"Well, that girl sure knows how to stir things up. She even got into a fight in her first year of high school! What does she think she is—a devil?"

Su Chen chuckled. "With her talent, there won't be many people who can stand against her in the future. She won't suffer any losses."

Uncle Lu's frown softened into a proud smile. "You're right. After all, she's my daughter."

But as his smile faded, his tone grew serious. "Xiao Chen, I need to tell you something. It's important that you and Xiaoye don't wander too far from school for now."

Su Chen paused. "Why? Did something happen?"

After a moment of hesitation, Uncle Lu explained, "There's been some movement in Jiangnan City recently. It's connected to the events of ten years ago."

Su Chen's expression darkened. "The Black Lotus Cult?"

Uncle Lu's silence spoke volumes.

Memories of that fateful night a decade ago surged back to Su Chen.

Jiangnan City had been engulfed in chaos—fire, screams, and blood. Demons swarmed the streets as boundary markers failed, turning the city into a living nightmare.

The Black Lotus Cult's followers had orchestrated the destruction, their madness leaving scars on all who survived.

"Uncle Lu, if this is related to the Black Lotus Cult, you have to tell me when the time comes," Su Chen said, his voice steady but cold. "It's been ten years. Those rats are finally surfacing again."

Uncle Lu sighed but didn't respond.

"I won't act recklessly," Su Chen added. "I know I'm not strong enough yet to settle the score from back then."

He returned to cleaning the spirit fish, though his movements were mechanical, his mind elsewhere.

The Black Lotus Cult—one of the three major evil sects in the Kyushu Immortal Alliance—was a chaotic amalgamation of defected monks, alien races, and demons. Their leader, Holy Mother Black Lotus, was a Spirit Transformation Stage cultivator, one of the most dangerous figures in Kyushu.

Ten years ago, Black Lotus followers had ravaged Jiangnan City in search of something. Though the Kyushu Immortal Alliance intervened in time to prevent total annihilation, the scars remained.

Su Chen didn't care what the cult sought. What mattered was the chance to confront them—especially the Golden Core Stage guardian, White Bone Taoist, who had been instrumental in the city's destruction.

Bang!

Su Chen placed the cleaned spirit fish on the chopping board, grabbing the knife with a firm grip.

A decade ago, he and the Black Lotus Cult had been worlds apart. He had been powerless, a victim of their whims.

But with the help of "Cultivation of Immortality", that dynamic had begun to shift.

While he couldn't challenge the cult's foundations yet, Su Chen believed time was on his side. One day, the roles of the blade and the fish would reverse.

With a decisive stroke, he severed the spirit fish's head.

"Okay, go call Xiaoye for dinner."

"Got it," Su Chen said, setting down the knife.

Some things must come to an end. Until that day, I'll keep pushing forward—stronger, smarter, and unrelenting.

It is never too late for a gentleman to take revenge... even ten years later.
