**Chapter 7: Dungeon: Ancient Cultivator's Tomb (4)**

Knowing there was an unknown danger beyond the stone door, Su Chen became hyper-alert after resurrecting, prepared to counter any sudden attack.

As expected, the moment he stepped out of the stone door, a gust of cold wind blew from above. Su Chen, ready for this, instinctively swung his magic sword upward.

Bang!

The vibrating blade collided with sharp claws in mid-air, sending a shower of sparks across the dim corridor. The power of Water Dragon Roar forced the assailant to retreat, its form darting back into the shadows.

At last, Su Chen saw his attacker. It was a horrifying creature with sparse hair, a dry, decaying body, and glowing scarlet eyes. The thing clung to the wall like a grotesque predator.

There was no mistaking it—the creature was a magic corpse, likely the one responsible for his earlier death.

---

[Qi Gathering Stage Magic Corpse]

[Cultivation]: Fifth Level of Qi Gathering Stage

[Features]: Bloodthirsty and violent; afraid of sunlight

---

Su Chen maintained a calm demeanor, but inwardly, his nerves were taut.

Even though he had lived two lives and could resurrect infinitely, the sight of the monstrous zombie before him stirred an instinctive fear. No amount of preparation could erase the visceral terror of facing such a hideous foe.

His fear felt oddly familiar—like being trapped in a horror game, a genre he had always avoided in his past life. But before his thoughts could spiral, the magic corpse launched another attack.

With shocking speed, the creature became a black blur, its claws aimed at Su Chen's chest. Startled by its swiftness, Su Chen activated the Purple Cloud Divine Light for protection.

"Roar!!!"

The moment the glowing barrier enveloped him, the magic corpse recoiled as if struck. Mid-air, it twisted its body to avoid the light, landing more than ten meters away. Crouched low, it hissed at Su Chen, its scarlet eyes filled with fear.

Su Chen's mind raced. He recalled the information panel's description:

[Afraid of sunlight]

The Purple Cloud Divine Light, formed by absorbing the essence of newborn purple clouds, was akin to true sunlight. For a low-level magic corpse, sunlight was a natural nemesis.

"Perfect," Su Chen muttered. "Let's end this while I've got the advantage."

Seizing the opportunity, Su Chen charged forward, but the corpse reacted faster than expected. Without hesitation, it turned and fled into the dark passage, disappearing in seconds.

Su Chen halted, frustration clouding his expression. This wasn't just any mindless zombie. It had retained a degree of intelligence, enough to retreat when the situation turned against it.

Chasing the creature seemed unwise. The labyrinthine passages of the underground palace, combined with the magic corpse's speed and familiarity with the terrain, gave it the upper hand. Worse, Su Chen's Purple Cloud Divine Light was limited in duration. If it dissipated during the chase, he could easily fall into another ambush.

"A thief can steal for a thousand days, but you can't guard against thieves for a thousand days," Su Chen muttered. Pursuing the corpse would give it control over the battlefield—a dangerous prospect.

After some thought, Su Chen decided on a bold strategy: lure the creature out.

He extinguished the Purple Cloud Divine Light and stood motionless in the center of the passage, feigning vulnerability.

Sure enough, within moments of the light vanishing, faint noises echoed from the shadows. Su Chen smirked. The magic corpse, like a predator, couldn't resist the lure of easy prey.

Magic corpses were driven by a primal bloodlust, an instinct deeply ingrained in their existence. Su Chen was confident it wouldn't flee for long. But as minutes passed with no attack, he began to grow uneasy.

Five minutes later, the creature still hadn't struck.

"Stubborn thing," Su Chen muttered. "If you won't take the bait, I'll make it impossible for you to resist."

Magic corpses had another weakness: the scent of blood. Su Chen raised his sword and slashed his palm, allowing crimson drops to splatter onto the ground.

Tick-tock. Tick-tock.

The metallic scent of fresh blood filled the air, wafting into the dark corridor. Almost immediately, Su Chen heard labored breathing echoing in the distance.

Scarlet eyes glinted in the shadows. A rush of cold air heralded the creature's approach, and Su Chen barely had time to raise his sword.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Three sharp icicles, conjured from nowhere, hurtled toward him. Su Chen deflected them, his arms vibrating from the force.

Magic corpses earned their name for a reason. Unlike ordinary zombies, they retained fragments of their past lives' magical abilities.

As Su Chen fended off the ice attack, the corpse lunged at him, its claws outstretched and bloodlust fully awakened.

Su Chen's lips curled into a grin. The trap was set, and the prey had walked into it.

Purple Cloud Divine Light!

"Roar!!!"

The dim passage lit up as the divine light flared to life. The magic corpse screamed in agony, covering its face with clawed hands. Its body instinctively tried to retreat, but Su Chen wasn't about to let it escape again.

He dashed forward, activating his Sharp Technique to coat his blade in invisible energy.

Sword Technique: Water Dragon Roar!

The vibrating magic sword struck the corpse's neck in one swift motion. The creature's head separated cleanly from its shoulders, rolling to the ground with a dull thud.

As the headless body collapsed, Su Chen exhaled deeply, his heart pounding.

Kneeling beside the corpse, he noticed glowing fragments scattered on the ground. Picking them up, he saw a notification flash before his eyes:

---

[You killed a Qi Gathering Stage Magic Corpse and gained 70 experience points. Acquired: Soul Crystal Fragment (White) x1.]

---

Su Chen inspected the mysterious white fragment in his palm.

Soul Crystal Fragment? What is this?

Curiosity burned in his chest as he stared at the object, its surface faintly shimmering. He couldn't shake the feeling that this fragment held significant importance.
