Fated to My Enemy

Chapter 15: Chapter 15 She's Courting Death

The voice wasn't unfamiliar.

This person often visited their home as a guest in the past.

Although their administrative levels were the same, in terms of power, Lian Xinying's father was above him.

Lian Xinying didn't have much fondness for him because she was prejudiced.

Her father had died, and this man was probably cheering inside because he might smoothly take the top position for himself.

"I'm okay," Lian Xinying had intended to open the package, but now that she was on the phone, she had to put it aside.

"About your father's matter, I'm afraid it's a big blow to you. If you want to understand more about this incident, you can come to my office to find me," Zhao Qitian paused here, "I have found out that before your father's death, he had someone send you a package. Have you received it?"

Lian Xinying's heart took a heavy hit.

Uncle Zhao was very impressive.

She'd just received the package, and his phone call immediately followed.

He said he had been too busy to call her until now, but actually, he must have known that she'd received the package and called her specifically because of that.

Was he afraid of something?

"Yes, I received it. I was just about to open it when Uncle Zhao's call came," she said.

"Oh, why don't you open it now and tell me what it is. Regarding your father's matter, I will do my best to find evidence to prove his innocence. I hope you can cooperate," Zhao Qitian sighed deeply, his words carrying a sense of gravity.

Lian Xinying's eyes flickered, not daring to completely trust his words.

She found scissors to open the package and took out an exquisitely crafted box from inside.

And there was a handwritten letter.

Zhao Qitian's brow furrowed with agitation when he heard the sound of sobbing coming through the phone.

"Xinying, stop crying for a moment and tell me, what did your father send you?"

"...A birthday gift. A music box and a letter. The letter had no explanations, just an apology," Lian Xinying bit her teeth, forcing herself to stay calm.

"Oh, and the music box? Is there anything special about it?"

"Nothing."

"Are you sure?"

"Sure."

Lian Xinying's tone was certain, showing no signs of lying.

After calming his emotions, Zhao Qitian's voice became a little lighter, "Xinying, don't cry anymore. I have some of your father's belongings here, so you should come over. Also, about your father's matter, I'll tell you the cause and aftermath in person."

Lian Xinying responded sullenly.

She packed up the items and then left the house.

In the evening, when Yan Ye returned home for dinner and didn't see the young lady's silhouette, he asked accusingly, "Where did she run off to?"

"She went out in the afternoon and hasn't come back since," replied the Steward.

"Did she seriously study painting as I told her to?"

The Steward shook his head, "She refused to learn, and the teacher asked me to apologize to you."

Yan Ye's gaze turned frosty, and as his eyes unintentionally swept to a spot, his jawline tightened, "What the hell is that on the coffee table?"

"This…" The Steward shook his head and sighed, "This is what the young miss painted."

The drawing paper was handed to Yan Ye.

Yan Ye only gave it a glance, his expression filled with disdain and contempt; the damage dealt could be lethal.

"Who did she draw this of?" Yan Ye questioned with a mysterious cold smirk curling at his lips.

The Steward didn't dare to hide anything, "You…"

With several 'hiss' sounds, the drawing paper was torn to shreds and neatly thrown into the trash bin.

"She's asking for death!" Yan Ye guessed the outcome as soon as he saw the drawing. Before leaving the house, he changed his mind and ordered the servants, "Piece the drawing back together!"

Oh, he seemed to be planning to keep the evidence for a reckoning.
