Chapter 22: Chapter 21: The Solution to the Fermi Paradox
Alfred calmed down only minutes later because Lu Yuanming had asked him a question.
"Can you still contact the material world?"
Alfred fell silent, and after quite a while, he even began to sob uncontrollably.
Once Alfred settled down, Lu Yuanming called over the management personnel of the organization...
It seemed odd to him that these Caucasians, along with a few African Americans, who wouldn't normally submit to anyone except through guns and violence, would instantly follow those who claimed to be their disciples once they joined the organization. And now, apart from the original disciples, Charlie was the only exception among the management staff.
At that moment, Lu Yuanming brought the disciples and Charlie face-to-face with Alfred in the vault.
Alfred was eating and drinking at the time, alternating between bites of bread and sips of mineral water. After gulping down two loaves of bread and an entire bottle of mineral water, he patted his chest and said, "Almost starved to death... Damn MXG people, Nad's wall should have been completely erected!!"
Father Edward said with a smile, "Mr. Alfred, would you like some more?"
Alfred shook his head and said, "No, resources are hard to come by... So now, are you willing to tell me what that charade was all about? Let me guess... You went beyond the city, didn't you!? Then you came back alive from the outside? And you were lucky enough to find the graves of other civilizations, from which you obtained devices that can be used in the Dark Matter World, right!?"
The amount of information in his words was so vast that everyone looked puzzled, turning their gaze to Lu Yuanming, who just helplessly spread his hands. He had no idea what Alfred was talking about.
To Alfred, the bewildered look on everyone's faces seemed like deception. He immediately said discontentedly to Father Edward, "Father, we've been old friends for over thirty years. You wouldn't hide things and lie to me too, would you?"
Father Edward immediately put on a wry smile, made the sign of the cross over his chest, and then said to Alfred, "Mr. Alfred, I swear by my faith, by the Father in heaven, by Jesus Christ, by the Messiah, that my words are what I witnessed with my own eyes, and they are indeed true. The person beside me, he is the Messiah of these end times, and also..."
Alfred waved his hand and interrupted him, saying, "Regarding faith and religion, we have discussed them far too many times over the past decades. You know my family has been Protestant for generations, and I am a devout believer who goes to church every week. But we have come to a conclusion about the existence of Deity. Deity exists on a spiritual level, as does faith. It gives us morals and a sense of belonging, so there is nothing wrong with it. However, we're discussing something that concerns the survival of all humanity and civilization!"
Then, Alfred turned directly to Lu Yuanming and said, "Asian kid, I know they pushed you out as the front man, but the decisions are definitely not up to you. Uh, I suppose they pushed you out because you're tall and strong, looking intimidating, right? But now, please let whoever's behind the scenes come out and have a proper talk with me about what comes next. I'm not joking with any of you; this is about the survival of our humanity and civilization."
Lu Yuanming gave a bitter smile, stopped the disciples who were getting angry, and the Charlie who was about to draw his gun. Taking a couple of steps forward, he said, "Sir, please allow me to introduce myself. Lu Yuanming, a Z-country national, not Chinese-American, nor Asian-American. Just a Z-country national."
Alfred paused for a moment, then replied subconsciously, "Undocumented... no problem, a green card is easy to arrange, as long as you can..."
Upon saying this, Alfred gave a wry smile and said, "Nowadays, these things don't matter anymore. Continue, please."
Lu Yuanming then told Alfred all about his origins and abilities, everything he had told Father Edward and the others before.
The more Alfred listened, the stranger his expression became. After hearing everything, he said directly, "Impossible, you're lying. How could this be? Time travel, really? What time period are you originally from?"
"I became a vegetative state in July 2023, and then I was trapped in darkness, struggling for at least five or six months. I don't know the exact date I traveled through time," Lu Yuanming said earnestly.
"No... wait a second, five or six months after July 2023..."
A solemn expression crossed Alfred's face, and he examined Lu Yuanming carefully. Lu Yuanming continued to look back at him with an open and sincere gaze. Alfred then asked, "So, Mr. Lu, the next time you return to the material world, may I watch the process in person?"
"Of course," Lu Yuanming said with a smile.
At this, Father Edward stepped forward and said, "Mr. Alfred, is it time for you to answer our questions now? Or do you think those are so-called state secrets, that speaking about them would cause social unrest or something, and you still won't speak up here?"
Alfred shook his head and said, "There are just over a hundred people here, what social unrest... It happened in late January 2024. I remember when I found out the news, it was already January 31st..."
Upon hearing this, Lu Yuanming's heart skipped a beat. He instinctively felt that what Alfred was about to say was of great importance to him.
"In the Super Kamiokande detector in little Japan, they discovered dark matter," Alfred continued.
