Food Truck Owner Inside the Dungeon

Chapter 3

**Dungeon Food Truck Owner – Episode 3**

As Ji-eun opened the cabinet under the sink, she was greeted by a set of knives neatly arranged by size in the knife holder attached to the door.

Familiar with the tools, She picked up a knife and placed a few tomatoes on the cutting board that she had prepared in advance.

She picked up a tomato, rinsed it under water, and removed the stem. Then, she laid it horizontally on the board and cut it into even slices without a moment’s hesitation.

With each slice, the tomatoes were cut to a uniform thickness.

Tap, tap, tap.

The sound of the knife hitting the wooden cutting board was rhythmic.

After cutting the tomatoes into quarters, she trimmed the ends to make the top and bottom flat, ensuring that two pieces would fit perfectly on half a slice of bread.

Ji-eun carefully stacked the cut tomatoes into a large, airtight container, making sure they wouldn’t get squished.

The taste was important, but the appearance was crucial too.

She sliced them with a bit of thickness, so they couldn’t be bruised.

“I like tomatoes that are neither too soft nor too hard.”

Making a sandwich was simple.

Just cut the ingredients and stack them layer by layer on the bread, then press down slightly, and it’s done.

While it was a bit tedious to stack each cut ingredient by hand, it was far simpler than many other dishes.

Moreover, sandwiches were popular with people of all ages.

In particular, they were optimized for busy office workers who wanted a quick meal with milk or coffee for breakfast or lunch.

That’s why she originally planned to start her business in Yeouido.

She aimed for the quick made things for the busy office workers, and sandwiches were the simplest menu option for a food truck.

Her truck was set up not just for B.L.T. sandwiches but also for various other sandwiches and burgers to sell during lunch.

Once the short lunch hours of office workers were over, she would need to focus on dinner sales, which should be suitable for takeout rather than just a full meal.

The menu needed to provide a sense of “Ah, I’ve had a meal” while also being easy to pack since many people would be taking food home after a busy evening.

‘Packing food was tough, so I practiced a lot.’

While thinking about this, her hands continued to move swiftly.

Without even looking much, she kept cutting, and the pile of tomatoes quickly diminished.

In less than 20 minutes, she successfully cut all the tomatoes into quarters and closed the lid on the fourth airtight container, finishing the tomato preparation.

Four containers filled with tomatoes were placed in the vegetable compartment of the showcase refrigerator.

Tomato preparation is complete! (50/50)

As Ji-eun looked at the system window, she turned her attention to the lettuce next.

Holding a fairly large, vibrant head of lettuce, she tapped the stem with her palm and twisted it to remove it.

The core of the lettuce popped out easily from her hand.

She then turned on the water gently in the sink and began peeling off the layers of lettuce, keeping the core side up.

She peeled off the outer leaves, washed them under the weak stream of water, and placed them in a large bowl.

The leaves that came off were the perfect size for a sandwich. After soaking the peeled lettuce in cold water, she took a bottle of vinegar from her inventory.

She opened the cap of the vinegar, which appeared with a bright light, and sprinkled a little over the lettuce soaking in cold water. The lettuce, soaked in the vinegar-infused water, began to swell slightly, becoming even shinier.

After placing all the prepared lettuce in a colander with a little water, the system notification chimed.

Lettuce preparation is complete! (20/20)

In less than 30 minutes, she finished the preparation of lettuce. She wiped her hands dry with a kitchen towel and then stood on her tiptoes to open the cabinet above the gas stove.

“Hey! I’m not that short!”

I’m exactly 160 cm tall. That’s not a short height, but because she was so thin, she appeared smaller than she really was.

As Ji-eun reacted angrily, the spirit, who had been chuckling, suddenly raised the countertop beneath her feet, allowing her to reach the pot without standing on tiptoe.

“Wow, what’s this?”

“That’s amazing… It feels like the truck is alive. You’re a good truck spirit, aren’t you?”

“Yeah, you’re the spirit of the truck!”

“Just a food truck? This is my first shop!”

<…Thinking back, it’s not so bad.>

“Now you say that?”

Feeling a bit sorry for her, the spirit suddenly started playing sweet classical music from inside the cooking area.

“Your song selection isn’t great. Play something more upbeat.”

The soft classical music was quickly replaced by energetic club music with a lively synth beat.

It wasn’t long before the frantic music began streaming automatically, starting from the top of the charts.

It was time for the eggs to finish cooking in the large pot filled with water. As the salted water began to bubble, Ji-eun sprinkled a little water on the heated iron plate.

Sizzle—!

As the temperature of the iron plate rose, the sound of the water bubbling could be heard.

At the same time, a ping sound occurred.

Ji-eun opened the oven and took out the halved rye baguette and bread. After removing her baking gloves, she gently pressed on the surface of the bread.

Crisp.

The perfectly toasted outer layer of the bread made a pleasing sound. Since the sauce and lettuce would be added, the bread would get soggy over time, but toasting the outside would help delay that.

Moreover, the crispy outer layer would enhance the texture of the sandwich.

Setting the warm bread aside, Ji-eun struggled to lift the pot and carefully moved it to the sink.

After successfully placing the pot in the sink, she turned on the cold water and emptied out all the hot water.

The eggs needed to be placed in cold water immediately after boiling. This made peeling the shells easier. Adding a bit of salt while boiling served a similar purpose.

Otherwise, the whites tended to come off in chunks along with the shell.

Since the eggs took longer to cook than expected, Ji-eun lowered the temperature of the iron plate, lightly touched an egg, and began peeling it without hesitation.

The shells came off, revealing the perfectly cooked white inside. Without realizing it, Ji-eun popped one of the peeled eggs into her mouth.

“So delicious…”

The soft egg white melted in her mouth.

And the yolk was perfectly cooked—not too runny and not overcooked.

It didn’t take long for Ji-eun to finish peeling all the eggs as she busily worked with her hands. After placing the eggs in a plastic bowl, she began to chop them finely.

The whites and yolks crumbled into small pieces. She didn’t grind them completely, leaving some small chunks.

This way, the soft texture of the egg would be felt, providing a greater sense of satisfaction when placed in her mouth.

Ji-eun generously poured mayonnaise over the perfectly chopped eggs.

Eggs and mayonnaise create a combination that can’t possibly taste bad. Wearing plastic gloves, she mixed them well until the egg filling for the sandwich was complete.

The cheese came in a block rather than individually wrapped slices, so she needed to cut it into appropriate thicknesses and sizes.

After adding the cut cheese to the egg mayonnaise filling, the signal indicating that the iron plate was at the right temperature chimed.

Sizzle!

It was always a pleasant sound to hear.

After wiping the surface of the iron plate with a towel, Ji-eun picked up a square of butter.

She applied the butter generously on the plate, and as it melted, a fragrant aroma filled inthe air. The enticing scent of the melting butter made Ji-eun hum a little tune unconsciously.

Now it was time for the most important ingredient: the bacon.

Holding a large knife, she peeled back the packaging of the bacon, revealing its glistening surface as it slipped out of the wrapper.

“I have to be generous with the meat.”

Even if it meant raising the price a bit, she wanted to add plenty of bacon. She believed that a sandwich should be packed with a rich variety of ingredients in every bite.

Since she was little, Ji-eun enjoyed seeing others eat the food she made with delight and satisfaction.

While her profit margins might decrease, her goal was to sell generously filled sandwiches. With top-quality ingredients provided for free, she felt happier as she poured all the bacon onto the iron plate without holding back.

Sizzle!

The sound of bacon sizzling on the butter-coated iron plate was heavenly. If cooked too crispy, the bacon would become hard, so it was essential to cook it just right.

Swish! Swish!

Ji-eun’s hands danced over the iron plate.

Using a spatula, she flipped the bacon with a serious demeanor, making her look almost reverent.

Once the bacon was perfectly cooked, she placed it on several layers of paper towels to drain the excess grease, pressing it gently with the towels.

The smell of the perfectly cooked bacon was fantastic.

Just as she finished cooking the bacon, a system notification appeared, even though she hadn’t cooked all 15 kg yet.

[Quest: All ingredient preparations for opening are complete!]

“Huh?”

Ji-eun’s worries about the bacon drying out and losing flavor were suddenly alleviated.

Looking at the amount of bacon sufficient for two sandwiches, she realized that she had finished preparing all the ingredients.

At that moment, applause echoed, a sound effect played by the spirit through the speakers, acknowledging her accomplishment.

“Should I make one to taste?”

With the ingredient preparations complete, it was time to reward herself for her hard work. It was just about lunchtime.

She spread a little sauce made of honey, mustard, and mayonnaise on the crispy bread. On top of that, she layered lettuce, bacon, tomatoes, and cheese.

Adding another strip of bacon over the cheese, she placed the egg filling and lettuce on top before finally covering it with the other slice of bread.

As she wrapped it in paper, the sandwich puffed up as if the wrapping might tear. To prevent the paper from ripping, she gently pressed down on the sandwich, allowing the lettuce and tomatoes to settle slightly.

Using a well-sharpened knife, she precisely sliced the wrapping in half and carefully separated the paper with both hands, revealing the perfect cross-section of the sandwich.

“It’s done!”

Ji-eun smiled with satisfaction.

Thanks to her generous use of ingredients, the sandwich looked incredibly appetizing.
