Fun In Highschool DxD World

Chapter 93: Questions

Izashi smiled faintly as he listened to Sirzechs' words. The Devil King spoke with a calm authority, his voice carrying the weight of countless decisions made for the betterment of their race. "Even if the Maou isn't here," Sirzechs began, "the devils must move forward. To continue our species, we cannot afford to stagnate. If another war begins, we'll be annihilated—down to the very last devil."

Internally, Izashi couldn't help but scoff. 'Speak for yourself,' he thought, his crimson eyes glinting with a faint trace of contempt. 'If it ever comes to that, I'll do whatever it takes to survive. A sea of blood isn't a high price if it ensures my women and I endure.'

Azazel, the leader of the fallen angels, chimed in with his characteristic seriousness, though there was a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "Even without God, the world keeps spinning. The factions must find a way to coexist, or we'll all end up repeating the same mistakes."

Everyone present seemed to agree silently. Heads nodded, and a quiet understanding filled the room. Even without God, even without the Maou standing at their helm, the world had not fallen apart. Instead, it was moving forward. Perhaps not toward the brightest future imaginable, but this newfound peace among the three factions offered a glimmer of hope. It wasn't far-fetched to believe that this future might outshine the blood-soaked past.

The conversation began shifting to other topics, ones Izashi found dreadfully dull. The war potential of each faction, contingency plans, and defensive strategies. It was almost laughable to him. They had just agreed to peace, and here they were, practically counting soldiers like paranoid neighbors. He noted Serafall's enthusiasm as she joined the discussion, her vast knowledge of devil-kind's military capabilities surpassing even Sirzechs'.

'Typical,' Izashi mused, resisting the urge to yawn. Serafall's cheerful demeanor belied her sharp intellect, and it wasn't surprising to see her taking an active role in such discussions.

Eventually, the meeting shifted gears. Michael, the leader of the angels, turned his attention toward Izashi and Issei, addressing them both in a calm but authoritative tone. "Now that we've covered these matters, how about we hear the opinions of Izashi-dono and Sekiryuutei-dono?"

Izashi narrowed his eyes slightly, his expression guarded as he met Michael's gaze. "Before I answer, Michael-san," he began, his tone carrying a hint of challenge, "I'd like to ask you something. Why are you so interested in my opinion? I understand why Sekiryuutei's perspective might be relevant, but why me?"

Michael's serene expression didn't waver, though there was a flicker of intrigue in his eyes. "There are two reasons," he began, his voice calm and measured. "First, your connection to Sirzechs-dono. It's said that your talent surpasses even his at your age. And second, you possess a unique ability—one that allows you to interact with, or perhaps bypass, the system created by God. I cannot see you within the framework of that system. It's as if you exist beyond it entirely. Whether it's due to a secret technique, or if your power truly surpasses mine, it's a phenomenon that demands attention. Each possibility is terrifying in its own right."

Izashi nodded, his expression thoughtful. 'So, he doesn't know about the specifics of my bloodline,' he mused, his lips twitching into a faint smirk. 'He's just being polite, offering respect where he feels it's due. I suppose that's not too bad, coming from the leader of the angels.'

Turning to Issei, Izashi gestured with a slight nod. "You go first. I already have an idea of what you're going to ask."

Issei, still processing the weight of the meeting, straightened up and asked Michael the question that had been weighing on his mind. "Why did you make Asia leave the church?"

Michael let out a soft sigh, his expression growing heavier. "The system God created places immense strain on those who use it. Only God himself could wield it without consequence. After His death, the system has become unstable, and its effects are far weaker. Asia's Twilight Healing is a Sacred Gear that interacts directly with the system. Its presence in her body created complications, ones we couldn't resolve at the time. It left me no choice but to excommunicate her."

Issei frowned, his fists clenching at his sides. "You're saying she was forced out because of something she couldn't control? That's just… unfair."

Michael bowed deeply, his tone sincere. "You're right, Sekiryuutei-dono. It was unfair. There was simply no other option at the time. For that, Asia-san, I offer my deepest apologies."

Asia, who had been silent until now, stepped forward with a gentle smile. "Please, Michael-sama, don't bow your head. I've found so many wonderful people here. Even as a devil, I feel truly happy."

Michael straightened, a small smile softening his features. "I'm relieved to hear that. Sirzechs-dono's family has a reputation for treating their servants as equals, as family. I trust you'll be well cared for."

Asia nodded firmly, her bright expression dispelling the heavy atmosphere. "I'm sure of it. I've never felt this cared for before."

With Issei's question resolved, Michael turned his attention back to Izashi. "And what about you, Izashi-dono? Do you have a question?"

Izashi met Michael's gaze squarely, his voice steady and firm. "I do. If this peace agreement holds, would it be possible for devils—selected individuals, of course—to visit Heaven? In return, we'd allow angels to visit the Underworld, with proper security measures in place to ensure their safety."

Michael's brow furrowed as he considered the request. Izashi continued, his tone measured and persuasive. "If we're serious about peace, there has to be trust. My proposal is simple: we're willing to trust you by stepping into your territory, surrounded by your angels. Do you trust us enough to do the same?"

Michael's expression shifted to one of contemplation, his honesty apparent. "I agree that trust is vital. Personally, I have no desire to visit the Underworld, but I won't stop you from visiting Heaven."

Izashi's lips curved into a satisfied smile. "Thank you. I've always been curious about the residence of God. After this meeting, I'd like to see it for myself."

Michael nodded, a touch of surprise in his expression. "You're welcome to visit. To ensure your safety, I'll assign one of the strongest Seraphs to guide you. With her by your side, no angel will dare to attack you."

The room fell silent, stunned by Izashi's unexpected request. Even Sirzechs and Serafall exchanged surprised glances. Azazel, however, smirked knowingly.

"Didn't expect that from you, Izashi," Azazel remarked, his tone light. "You've got a curious side, huh?"

Izashi shrugged, his expression calm. "Curiosity can lead to understanding. If we're serious about this peace, we need more than words—we need action."

Michael smiled faintly, his respect for Izashi deepening. 'This generation of devils is different,' he thought. 'Perhaps there's hope for true unity after all.'

As the conversation continued in the grand hall, the air shifted slightly with the arrival of a new presence. Vali Lucifer walked into the room, his steps calm but purposeful, his usual smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. Azazel, lounging casually as always, raised an eyebrow and greeted him with a tone that barely concealed his amusement.

"Oh, Vali, look who decided to join us," Azazel said, his arms spread in mock surprise. "You're late, you know. We've already made some major decisions, including agreeing on peace between the factions. What's left now is to hear the opinions of those with enough power to shape the world."

Vali frowned slightly, crossing his arms. "And who exactly are you referring to, Azazel?"

Azazel leaned back and gestured lazily toward Issei and Vali. "That would be you and Issei, the wielders of the Heavenly Dragons' Sacred Gears. The White Dragon Emperor and the Red Dragon Emperor—your opinions carry weight, whether you like it or not."

Vali raised an eyebrow, the faintest hint of confusion flickering across his face. "You want my opinion on peace? Why me? And why Issei?"

Azazel shrugged as if the answer should have been obvious. "Because the two of you represent forces that have historically been at odds for centuries. If the Heavenly Dragons themselves can embrace peace, it sends a strong message to everyone else. So, I'll ask plainly—do you want peace, Vali?"

Vali didn't respond immediately. His gaze shifted, landing on Issei for a brief moment before flicking to Izashi, who was leaning back against the wall with an air of disinterest. Something didn't sit right with Vali, and he narrowed his eyes. "Why aren't you asking Izashi Gremory?" he questioned, his voice sharp. "If anything, his opinion matters more than mine or Issei's."

Azazel tilted his head, his expression turning mock-thoughtful. "I won't deny that Izashi's strength and potential are noteworthy. He might even have the power to become a Maou someday. But right now, this discussion is about the Heavenly Dragons. You two are the ones carrying that legacy."

Vali stared at Azazel, clearly unimpressed with the answer. His voice took on a sharper edge. "Are you serious? Do you not realize the kind of power Izashi wields? He killed Kokabiel on his own. Tell me, Azazel—doesn't that qualify him as someone whose opinion carries weight?"

The casual atmosphere in the room froze for a moment. Everyone, save for Rias's peerage, seemed to stiffen at the unexpected revelation. Sirzechs exchanged a glance with Serafall, while Michael's eyes narrowed in quiet curiosity. Azazel straightened slightly, a rare moment of seriousness crossing his face. "Wait," he said, his voice lower now. "Are you telling me Izashi killed Kokabiel? Alone? I thought you helped him in that fight and that he found an opening during your battle with Issei."

Vali crossed his arms, his expression firm. "No. He fought Kokabiel directly, even while Kokabiel was being boosted by the fused Excalibur. Izashi overpowered him completely and killed him."

All eyes turned to Izashi, who had been quietly observing the unfolding drama. The crimson-haired devil casually whistled as if the conversation had absolutely nothing to do with him. His feigned innocence only added to the tension in the room.
