Genshin Impact: Glutinous Path To Godhood

Chapter 3: Survival Instinct

The situation was critical.

Haruka Yasugano bolted, his breath ragged, as crossbow bolts and stones whizzed past. He dove behind the wide trunk of an ancient oak, narrowly avoiding the hail of projectiles from the Hilichurls pursuing him.

His left arm throbbed with pain, courtesy of a makeshift club from earlier. His shirt, once pristine, was now a shredded, mud-streaked mess.

This can't be happening. How did I end up in this mess?

The events of the last twelve hours felt like a fever dream. Yesterday, he'd been binge-watching survival videos on his phone. Now, he was dodging arrows in the middle of a forest teeming with Teyvat's most infamous creatures.

Haruka clenched his fists and forced himself to think. Okay, calm down. I remember yesterday's task in Genshin Impact was to communicate with the Hilichurls. Maybe I can use what I learned.

Peeking around the tree, Haruka swallowed hard. His legs trembled, but desperation fueled his actions. Plastering on what he hoped was a non-threatening smile, he stepped out into view.

"Ya yika!" he called, his voice wavering.

The Hilichurls paused, their guttural chatter fading into confused silence.

It's working! Maybe they think I'm one of them! Encouraged, Haruka tried again. "Nini zido!"

The forest fell eerily silent, save for the faint rustle of leaves in the wind.

Haruka's heart pounded. Something about the way the Hilichurls tilted their heads unnerved him. Their confusion twisted into something more hostile.

A low growl escaped one of the Hilichurls, who stepped forward, brandishing its club.

"Oh no, that wasn't right," Haruka muttered, panic rising. He scrambled for another phrase, his mind a jumbled mess of syllables.

"Biadam!" he shouted in a harsh tone, hoping for a miracle.

Instead, chaos erupted.

The Hilichurls roared in anger, hurling stones and firing crossbows with renewed vigor. Haruka dove back behind the tree, clutching a stick he'd picked up earlier.

"Great job, Haruka. You just told them to die."

Adrenaline surged through him as he sprinted down the steep slope. He zigzagged, ducking and weaving to avoid the projectiles raining down around him. A rock smashed into his back, and a bolt grazed his arm, but he pressed on.

Behind him, a wooden shield Hilichurl launched a Grass Slime high into the air. Haruka barely registered it before—

BOOM!

The slime exploded in a burst of green mist, throwing Haruka off his feet. He hit the ground hard, his ears ringing as toxic fumes spread through the air. His skin burned, and his vision blurred.

"Elemental attacks… great," he groaned, dragging himself behind a tree. His body screamed in protest, but he knew the toxins weren't fatal—at least, not right away. He gritted his teeth, recalling the lore of Teyvat. As long as I don't stay exposed too long, I should be fine.

Stumbling forward, Haruka eventually left the Hilichurls' pursuit range.

---

The forest grew quieter as Haruka's pace slowed. His lungs burned, and his legs felt like lead. Spotting a small pond ahead, he collapsed by the edge. The clear water reflected the late afternoon sunlight, and vibrant lotus plants dotted the shoreline.

"Lotus heads…" he muttered, recognizing them from the game. He plucked one, sniffing it cautiously.

Without hesitation, he bit into the plant. Bitter, astringent flavors assaulted his taste buds, but after a few chews, a faint sweetness emerged. It wasn't much, but it was enough to keep him going.

"Disgusting," he mumbled, taking another bite. Hunger drove him to pick several more, devouring them as he scoured the area for more food.

His eyes fell on the pond's blackback bass, swimming lazily beneath the surface. His stomach growled at the sight.

Splash!

Haruka dove into the water, his makeshift plan to catch one quickly unraveling. The fish darted away effortlessly, their tails flicking in mockery. Within minutes, exhaustion overtook him.

Dripping wet, he dragged himself back to the shore. "Stupid fish," he muttered, collapsing onto the grass.

---

As evening approached, Haruka scavenged the area, collecting what little he could find. Mushrooms, Sunsetias, and more lotus heads filled his makeshift bag. Each bite of food gave him just enough strength to press on.

Smoke rose in the distance, and Haruka's heart leaped. Maybe it's an adventurer camp!

Hope drove him forward, but as he neared, dread set in. The camp wasn't filled with humans—it was another Hilichurl settlement.

Frustration bubbled inside him. "This is Mondstadt! What are the Knights of Favonius even doing?" he hissed under his breath.

---

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the forest. Haruka leaned against a tree, exhaustion weighing him down. His wounds ached, and his stomach growled despite the food he'd consumed.

"I need to find someone—anyone," he murmured.

But for now, survival was his only priority. With one last glance at the smoke-filled sky, Haruka trudged deeper into the wilderness, determined to see another day.
