God Level Farmer In Another World

Chapter 134: Chapter 134: The "Mountain God"

Chapter 134: The "Mountain God"

Accompanied by the village chief, Sophia took a tour around the village. This place seemed like a paradise, with no signs of demonic beasts wreaking havoc.

Sophia pointed at the terraced fields halfway up the mountain, astonished. "You've even developed farmland on the mountainside? Is this mountain free of demonic beasts?"

The village chief gave a mysterious smile. "Indeed, great writer, our Mang Village is protected by the Mountain God. No demonic beasts dare to cause trouble here."

Sophia was stunned. "Mountain God?"

The village chief smiled warmly. "It's a long story. Let's head to the village committee building, and I'll explain everything."

It was the dead of winter, bitterly cold. Shivering, Sophia agreed and followed the village chief to the committee building.

The village committee building was a large tile-roofed house. Inside, two heavily made-up women were adding wood to a roaring stove. The women stood up immediately when the village chief arrived, lowering their heads respectfully.

Their attire, however, didn't resemble that of typical village women; they looked more like nightclub workers. The village chief's expression darkened, and his tone turned severe. "You two wretches, don't you see we have a guest? Go make some food! Kill the old hen!"

The two women flinched, casting fearful glances at the chief before leaving with heads bowed. Outside, in the sub-zero temperatures, they wore only black stockings, seemingly unaffected by the cold—perhaps long accustomed to such conditions.

Sophia watched their retreating figures with a puzzled expression. The village chief chuckled. "They're my wives. Please, sit down, great writer, and I'll tell you about the Mountain God."

Sophia nodded thoughtfully. If not for the absence of demonic beasts, those attractive women likely wouldn't have settled for a rough man like the chief. But in a world fraught with danger, survival was paramount, and Mang Village was free of demonic beasts. As long as one could provide safety, it didn't matter if they were a village chief or even a beggar; many women would willingly submit. This wasn't a slight against women—after all, how many men had willingly become subservient dogs just to survive in this world?

Sophia sat on an old sofa, took out her notebook, and smiled. "So, what's the story of this Mountain God?"

The village chief grabbed a wooden stool and sat across from her, pride evident on his face. "I'm not a local; I came here by chance. But luckily, I encountered the Mountain God and became its messenger. As long as I'm here, the Mountain God will protect Mang Village forever."

According to the chief, he was once the leader of a private exploration team. Lost in the dense fog of the Northern Mang Mountains, and on the brink of starvation, he encountered the Mountain God. To survive, he made a pact with it. The team then settled at the mountain's base, forming a village and regularly offering tributes to the Mountain God. In return, demonic beasts were kept at bay.

Initially, Mang Village consisted only of the exploration team members. Over time, more people sought refuge in this safe haven, and the village grew.

Sophia became increasingly curious about the Mountain God, asking the chief numerous questions about it. Her inspiration for writing flowed like a clear spring. She eagerly jotted down the chief's words in her notebook.

Suddenly, she asked, "As an exploration team leader, you must have earned a decent salary before. Why not return to your former employer?"

The chief paused for a moment. "It's too far. Returning is nearly impossible." He glanced at the two glamorous women working by the stove outside, then smirked meaningfully. "Here, I'm like a local emperor. Everyone listens to me. Without me, the Mountain God wouldn't protect Mang Village. Why would I go back to being someone's employee?"

Sophia nodded. The chief's reasoning was sound. Though life in the city might be better, here he ruled unchallenged. Better to be the head of a chicken than the tail of a phoenix.

The chief continued, "I hope, great writer, that you'll spread the word about Mang Village when you return. This place, blessed by the Mountain God, is a sanctuary. I want more people to join Mang Village and escape the chaos caused by demonic beasts." Sophia paused, her gaze toward the chief becoming increasingly peculiar.

At that moment, a panicked villager burst into the committee building. "Chief! Chief! Something's wrong!"

The village chief frowned at the villager. "Can't you see I have a guest here? What's with all this panic?"

The villager, face pale with fear and trembling, stammered, "It's John's wife at the village entrance… she's having a difficult labor!"

The chief's expression changed instantly as he shot to his feet. "What did you say? John's wife is having a difficult labor? Take me there immediately!"

Sophia looked at the chief in surprise. This chief seemed to involve himself in everything. Could it be that John's wife's unborn child was his?

The chief, halfway out the door with the villager, suddenly remembered Sophia and turned back with a sheepish smile. "Great writer, please make yourself comfortable. Ensuring the continuation of life in the village is a big deal—I have to go check on this."

Sophia quickly responded, "Don't worry about me. Take care of it first."

After instructing the two women busy at the stove with a few hurried words, the chief rushed out.

As the chief left, Sophia fell into contemplation. There was something off about this village chief. His stories sounded too fantastical. As a novelist, she prided herself on spinning tales, yet she couldn't shake the feeling that this man's words rang hollow.

"A Mountain God? Could there really be such a deity?" Sophia murmured. If the Mountain God didn't exist, how could the village, situated at the foot of Northern Mang Mountain, remain unscathed by demonic beasts for so many years?

Suddenly, a sharp scream came from the kitchen. Startled, Sophia jumped to her feet and hurried in the direction of the noise.

Inside the kitchen, a red-haired woman lay sprawled on the floor, a bloody gash on her head. Standing nearby, a blonde woman gripped a fire poker in her trembling hands.

The blonde woman's wide eyes fixed on Sophia as she pointed the poker at her. "You—you have a car, don't you?!"

Ignoring the threat, Sophia knelt to check the red-haired woman's injuries. Thankfully, she was only unconscious.

The blonde's expression twisted with desperation, her voice shrill. "I'm talking to you! Do you have a car or not?!"

Sophia nodded cautiously. She was a healing-type Awakened and had little confidence in her ability to fight the armed blonde. Keeping her tone calm, she tried to soothe her. "Yes, I have a car. It's parked at the village entrance. Don't get too agitated."

The blonde's eyes lit up with manic excitement. "Quick! Take me away!!"

"Wait," Sophia said, her tone steady as she summoned a soft white glow to her hands and began healing the red-haired woman's head wound.

The blonde stared, the fire poker slipping from her grasp. She muttered, "You… you're an Awakened?"

In an instant, the blonde collapsed to her knees, her forehead slamming against the concrete floor in desperate bows. "Take me with you, please take me away! You're an Awakened, you can save me!"

Her forehead split open from the repeated impacts, leaving blooming red stains on the concrete like plum blossoms. Alarmed, Sophia quickly pulled the clearly unstable woman to her feet. "Calm down. Tell me what's going on!"

The blonde's unblinking stare bored into Sophia, her terror spilling from her eyes. "This place… this place is a hellhole! That invader—he's a devil!"

Sophia's brow furrowed tightly. "Invader?"
