Gurren Lagann : Mecha Emperor

Chapter 26: Littner Village 6

Despite Viral's taunts, Goro's focus sharpened as he searched for a solution. He couldn't let Viral harm Yoko. He needed to outsmart him.

"Yoko!" Goro called out urgently, trusting that she would be ready to take the shot. "Prepare to fire. I'll give you the opportunity."

Yoko tightened her grip on her rifle "Got it. Just make sure you don't get yourself killed!"

Viral lunged towards Lagann once again, his twin blades slicing through the air. Goro stood his ground, using Lagann's drills to parry and deflect Viral's relentless attacks.

"You're only delaying the inevitable, Goro," Viral sneered, increasing the intensity of his strikes.

"You can't protect everyone."

But a small smirk appeared on Goro's face. "Just watch me."

Pretending to stumble, Goro made Lagann appear off-balance. Viral saw this as an opportunity and moved in for what he thought would be the final blow.

"Now, Yoko!"

Without hesitation, Yoko took aim and fired. The bullet flew through the air, shattering Viral's blade into pieces.

"What?!" Viral growled, caught off guard by the sudden counterattack.

Goro didn't waste any time and seized the moment, activating Lagann's drill and driving it straight towards Viral's armor. The spinning weapon struck with force, sending Viral flying across the battlefield until he crashed into a large boulder.

"It's time to put an end to this!".

Lagann's drills spun faster and radiated a blinding golden light. The mech crouched down, its arms stretching outward as energy surged through its body.

Yoko stood in awe from her viewpoint, marveling at the sight.

"Lagann... Spiral Barrage!" Goro shouted.

The mech catapulted into the sky, its drills detaching from its arms and spinning rapidly in mid-air.

As they multiplied, they formed a swarm of glowing, rotating projectiles that encircled the mech

the glowing, spinning drills shot through the air like a meteor shower. Viral was caught off guard by the immense scale and speed of the attack, so he raised his remaining blade in an attempt to deflect the incoming projectiles.

"You think flashy tricks can stop me?!"

But the relentless Spiral Barrage proved otherwise. The drills swarmed around him, each one striking with explosive force.

Despite managing to deflect a few, Viral was soon overwhelmed by the barrage. One drill shattered his shoulder armor while another knocked his weapon out of his hand.

"AHHHH" Viral struggled against the relentless assault. Sparks flew as his body took a beating from the drills. Finally, a larger one slammed into his chest, sending him crashing to the ground with a loud thud.

the Spiral Barrage tore through Viral's gunman, causing it to sputter and groan as its armor cracked and sparks flew from its joints. Desperately fighting with the controls, Viral tried to stabilize the failing machine, but the damage was too severe.

"This can't be happening!" Viral growled in frustration, slamming his fist against the console as the systems of his gunman shut down.

With a loud metallic groan, the machine sank to its knees, smoke billowing from its frame. With no other choice, Viral activated the eject function.

The cockpit burst open and Viral leapt out, landing on the rough terrain with a grunt. He reached for his cleaver, ready to continue fighting on foot.

Suddenly, as he stood and turned, Viral found himself face-to-face with the figure of Lagann. Goro had positioned the massive mech directly in front of him, its menacing drill spinning just inches away from his face. The glowing spiral weapon was at full power and ready to strike.

"Don't move," came Goro's voice through Lagann's speakers. "You're finished."

Viral froze, his eyes locked on the deadly drill. His sharp teeth clenched in frustration and his hands hovered near the hilts of his blades.

"Do you really think I'll surrender?"

From a nearby ridge, Yoko's voice rang out over her rifle aimed straight at Viral's head. "Unless you want to find out what happens when that drill meets your face, I suggest you think twice."

Viral's eyes darted between Lagann and Yoko. He was a proud warrior but even he knew when the odds were close to none.

Goro emerged from Lagann and cautiously approached Viral, their weapons ready. Goro stopped a few feet away and looked down at the defeated Beastman. "It's over, Viral. You lost."

Viral snarled weakly, showing his sharp teeth. "Then kill me. I won't beg for mercy."

Yoko lowered her rifle. "no" she said. "You're worth more alive than dead."

Viral's eyes glared at them. "You think I'll talk? You humans are fools if you believe I'll betray my kind."

Goro knelt beside him and spoke calmly but firmly. "Maybe you won't talk, but capturing a commander like you is a big victory for us. We'll learn a lot just by having you in custody."

Viral's body tensed but he was too injured to resist as Goro tied his hands with reinforced cables salvaged from the debris.

"You think capturing me will stop anything? You humans are fools if you believe this is over."

"You know, for someone who just lost everything, you're awfully cocky."

Viral smirked, despite his situation. "You'll understand someday, human. You can't win against the Beastmen forever."

Yoko rolled her eyes, turning to Goro. "Do all Beastmen talk this much, or is it just him?"

Goro chuckled, grabbing Viral by the arm and guiding him toward Lagann's storage compartment. "Let's just say he's special."

With Viral captured, Goro and Yoko turned their attention to the remaining Beastmen forces. Those who were not caught in the Spiral Barrage were attempting to regroup, but their morale was shattered.

"Take them out quickly," Goro instructed Yoko. "We can't let them rally."

Yoko nodded and began firing precise shots with her rifle, taking out the enemy gunmen one by one. Meanwhile, Goro returned to Lagann and used its drills to destroy the remaining enemy machines.

The battle ended with most of the Beastmen defeated, while a few managed to escape into the shadows of the canyon.

"Should we go after them?" Yoko asked, reloading her rifle as she glanced towards the fleeing figures.

Goro shook his head. "No, we've done enough. Our mission was to stop the raids. We've accomplished that and captured Viral. Chasing them now would be reckless."

Yoko hesitated before nodding in agreement. "You're right. And after what we've done, they'll think twice before returning here."

As the sun started to set, Lagann reached the gates of Littner Village, its shape highlighted by the warm orange light of the sky. Behind Lagann, the broken remains of Viral's gunman, Enki, were dragged along by makeshift ropes.

The once-mighty Beastman war machine now seemed like a damaged relic, with its armor shattered and weapons cut off, showing the fierce battle that had happened.

Goro and Yoko rode atop Lagann, with Viral securely restrained inside the storage compartment.

The villagers gathered at the gates, their faces a mix of anticipation as they spotted their returning heroes.

"They're back!" someone shouted, and a cheer erupted from the crowd.

Lagann halted, and Goro and Yoko climbed down. Dayakka, the village leader, pushed through the crowd of excited villagers to meet them.

"You did it!" Dayakka beamed, a broad smile lighting up his face. "I knew you'd pull it off, but this... this is amazing." His eyes landed on the captured Enki.

"And you brought back one of their machines? That's going to be a big help for us."

"Yes, we'll need to fix and modify it, but it should be useful for humanity now."

Yoko pointed towards Lagann's storage compartment, her expression turning serious. "We also brought back something or rather, someone else."

The compartment opened with a hiss, revealing Viral, his hands bound and his face set in a defiant scowl. The crowd fell silent as the villagers stared at the captured Beastman.

"Is that... a beastmen?"

"Yes," Goro said, stepping forward to stand beside Viral. "This is Viral. He's one of the Beastmen commanders, and now he's our prisoner."

The villagers froze, eyes locked on Viral. Nervous whispers flowed through the crowd.

One man, hands shaking, pointed at Viral, his voice trembling, "You brought one of them here? What if he escapes? What if he–"

Yoko cut him off, resting her rifle on her shoulder. "He won't escape," she said, meeting the man's restless gaze. "We've secured him tight."

A younger villager stepped forward. "You captured one of their leaders!" His voice, rising with hope, turned to the crowd. "This changes everything. we can really start pushing back."

Dayakka raised his hands to calm the crowd. "Listen up, everyone. I understand your concerns, but this is a victory for us. Viral's capture means we can learn more about the Beastmen's plans and strategies."

The villagers started to nod, their faces slowly relaxing

As the celebration of Goro and Yoko's return carried on, the crowd around Enki began to part, and a familiar voice rang out.

"Well, well, well! Looks like you brought me a new toy to tinker with!"

Leeron, or as they all knew him, Ron, strode confidently into the scene.

"Ron!" one of the villagers called out. "Took you long enough to show up. Thought you'd be all over this the second it rolled in."

Ron waved a dismissive hand, grinning. "Please, I had to finish tuning the hydro-generator first. Can't have us running out of clean water, now can we?"

He turned his full attention to Enki, his expression becoming one of awe. "But this... oh, this makes it worth the wait!"

Ron practically skipped over to the battered Beastman gunman, his fingers already tracing its damaged exterior.

"Oh, the design! The lines! The raw power just waiting to be unleashed. And this—" he tapped a piece of exposed wiring "this is what I live for."

Dayakka shook his head "You're drooling over a broken Beastman gunman, Ron. It's almost embarrassing."

Ron waved him off, already pulling tools from his belt. "Broken, yes. But useless? Not in the hands of a genius like me."

He looked over his shoulder at Goro and Yoko, who were watching the scene unfold. "You two brought this back intact? Impressive. I didn't think anyone would bother with salvage."

"Oh, I can already see it. Reinforced plating, upgraded targeting systems, maybe even a Spiral Energy converter if you can power it. Enki's going to be a force to be reckoned with when I'm done with it."

Yoko raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms. "You really think you can rebuild this thing? It looks like scrap to me."

Ron scoffed, placing a hand on his chest dramatically. "Sweetheart, when it comes to machines, there's nothing I can't fix or improve. This isn't just salvage; it's a blank canvas."
