Chapter 16: Chapter 16 -Reunion
A few months passed, and Hinata was leaving a classroom where several students could be seen taking some kind of written test.
"Man, this one was really tough... at least it's finally over, now I can have my rest time and focus on myself during the break!" Hinata thought while walking through the corridors toward the exit until he heard a voice and turned around.
"Hey, Hinata!" said Izumi with Sekimukai by his side.
"Hey, how are you guys?" asked Hinata.
"HOW AM I? WHO DO THESE TEACHERS OR PRINCIPALS OR WHOEVER MAKES THESE TESTS THINK I AM? SOME KIND OF GENIUS?" said Sekimukai desperately.
"It's not that bad, it was difficult but you could do well if you studied enough," observed Izumi.
"It couldn't have been that bad," said Hinata looking at Sekimukai.
"WHAT? I'm doomed, I'll have to take supplementary classes and waste my vacation time," sighed Sekimukai.
"You know what, screw it, let's stop talking about school, we need to have our farewell, we might never see Izumi again!" the boy continued.
"Calm down, I'm just moving to a different prefecture, not leaving the country or planet Earth," said Izumi.
"But the occasion calls for a farewell," said Sekimukai.
"What should we do? Play volleyball?" suggested Hinata.
"No, we've been playing volleyball since the beginning of the year, this time we're going to do something much more competitive," said Sekimukai.
The three boys met at Izumi's house and could be seen in the living room while Hinata and Sekimukai held video game controllers.
"Stop this crap, that's unfair!" said Sekimukai while being endlessly comboed by Hinata in a fighting game. "Just take the beating and be quiet, no crying!" Hinata taunted while making a sadistic face.
The three boys kept playing video games for the rest of the day until Hinata and Sekimukai returned to their respective homes, and this was the beginning of the break before high school.
It had been two days since the start of the break, and Hinata knew he had a lot to do. It wouldn't help if he was tall now and still had his agility and jumping ability if he kept overexerting his body while doing it, so he had to put his plan into action. Besides the physical therapy he had been doing for three months, it was time for him to join a gym.
"Since my height growth, I've gained very little weight for my new stature, I'm only 72KG, and according to my physical therapist, I need to be at least above 80KG for it to be acceptable and healthy, so I have to gain weight gradually while doing weight training," Hinata thought while taking a card from a gym his mother had shown him and headed to the location to sign up.
"I'll need a good diet too..." thought the boy while returning home.
"I'll go to a nutritionist later," he continued.
And so the flow of vacation continued, with Hinata going to the physical therapist to treat his knee, working out at the gym, and following a diet his nutritionist gave him while from time to time testing jumps along with his new way of landing softly on the ground. In the blink of an eye, the three months of vacation passed, and it was time for Hinata to start high school classes.
So he put on the classic black suit uniform with a white shirt underneath and headed to Karasuno, which wasn't very far from his house. Upon entering the gate, he looked for any instructions saying where each classroom was.
"Let's see... I need to go to the first-year room, class 1," he thought.
"It's this way," he said while climbing stairs and entering the room. "There doesn't seem to be anyone I know in this class," Hinata thought after sitting in the last chair near the window.
He attended the first two classes and was then released for break.
"Right, I'm not sure how to join the volleyball club, but I should probably talk to an upperclassman," he thought.
"So okay, now I have to find where the third-year classrooms are... let's try this way," he said, walking randomly through the corridors and luckily finding a familiar face - it was the team manager, Kiyoko Shimizu.
He went in her direction and said:
"Good morning, I'm Shoyo Hinata, first year," he said.
"Good morning, I'm Kiyoko Shimizu, third year... how can I help you?"
"Well, I'd like to try joining this school's volleyball club and wanted to know how," said the boy, shrugging.
"Another one, huh..." she said quietly.
"What?" asked the boy.
"No, nothing... it's just that we recently had some people wanting to join," said Shimizu.
"Anyway, I'll tell the rest of the team that you want to join, so after class, go to the gym," she continued.
"Okay," said Hinata, waving and heading back to his classroom, and had the rest of class until it was time, and then he put on sports clothes and went to the location.
After entering the gym, he could see Kageyama standing there, who immediately looked at him after he entered and was extremely surprised.
"What are you doing here!" he said.
"No, the question is what are YOU doing here!" said Hinata, feigning surprise.
"Your performance in that championship should have guaranteed you entry into an elite school!" said Kageyama, confused.
"You still haven't realized that could be said about you too?" Hinata retorted.
"I wasn't accepted," he said while looking at the floor.
"And you?" he asked.
"Well, I... I... I think their uniforms are very nice!" said Hinata, pointing to his chest after coming up with only that excuse.
"...You're more stupid than I thought," said Kageyama seriously.
"There are the wonderful newcomers! Already feeling important, aren't you?" said Tanaka while making a threatening face as he walked toward the two until being pulled back by Daichi.
"Leave them alone," said Daichi to Tanaka.
"No way, they need to learn to respect their seniors," said Tanaka.
"It's good that you came, we couldn't believe that last year's two great newcomers would join our school," said Daichi.
"You know me?" asked Hinata.
"Of course! The rookie who appeared out of nowhere and completely dominated the Junior High Athletics Meet until that tragic injury, we watched your match against each other," said Sugawara.
"But what's your deal, you look taller and slightly better built but not by much," said Tanaka accusingly.
"Well, I grew 4cm and gained 3kg since then, I'm 192cm and 75kg." Note: Sorry Americans but I'm sticking with this type of measurement.
"And you Kageyama?" asked Daichi.
"I'm 180cm," he said.
"Looks like we might have a powerful duo this year," observed Sugawara.
"So, we still need to talk to some other members, but we plan to have a game between members, so be here," said Daichi.
"And you'll be on the same team, so it would be good if you two got along in the next few days."
"Right!" said Kageyama, who was excited to be Hinata's teammate because he respected his abilities.
"Alright," answered Hinata.
