Haikyuu: Nah, I'd Adapt!

Chapter 14: Chapter 13: Back to School

Holyshit, I just realized y'all literally doubled the power stones in a single night! That's crazy work, goddamn!

Y'all really like to work me to death, huh? Well, whatever, I'm preparing another bonus since I'm sure we're gonna hit the 2nd milestone (250 power stones) today since we're only 45 off by the time I write this message.

Anyway, enjoy the chapter!

I lov-hate you! 🥵💦

"That's why I'm telling you right now..."

Ichiro nodded solemnly. Then he suddenly pulled something from under the desk and placed it in Tsuna's view.

Tsuna blinked at the glaring title that read Why You Should Invest in Your Dad.

His dad continued, "You've got plenty of cash that's not working, so I'd like to propose an idea to make it work and give you more money."

"...So you're saying I should invest in your career as a rapper?"

Tsuna chewed on the burnt bacon speechlessly, nudging the file that was surprisingly well-made for what seemed like a joke.

"Yes!"

"Rapper..."

Tsuna massaged his forehead in exhaustion and said, "So what are you gonna call yourself? Central Lee? Ling Mabu? Or what was it again, NLE Chopstick?"

"Hey! This is not a joke, son!"

"I know, that's why I asked. What about 50 Yen?"

"...50 Yen actually sounds good, but no!"

"Oh, don't get me started, Dad. Do you even see what you're doing with the restaurant business?"

Tsuna pointed at the small ramen shop visible through the window, which also belonged to them, and added, "We're barely making a profit, and now you want to take on more work? Why don't you try fixing that first and getting the revenue higher?"

"...That's because the place is not strategic," Ichiro mumbled as an excuse.

Tsuna rolled his eyes. He had grown up enduring his dad's notoriously burnt breakfasts.

Just having the ramen taste average was already a miracle to him.

Just thinking about it all made him sigh, "If you wanted me to invest in a similar business to what you've done before, I would definitely do that since you have credibility. But rapping? You must be joking, Dad..."

"..."

Seeing his dad remain completely unfazed and shamelessly smiling made Tsuna feel even more speechless.

He added, "Whatever. If you bring me something good, sure, I'll consider investing."

"Haha, deal!"

Ichiro laughed heartily as he scooped a mouthful of food into his mouth.

Tsuna thought that was the least he could do as a son. He would definitely support his dad, just like his dad had supported him, but only if he was serious.

"Yo, aniki! Are you there?"

As they were finishing their breakfast, a voice suddenly called from outside. Tsuna saw his dad's face light up in excitement as Ichiro shouted, "Yeah, give me a second!"

"Since when did he hang out with people around here...?"

Tsuna shook his head as he grabbed the dishes and placed them in the sink. He glanced at the clock—it was 7:15 a.m. He mumbled, "Shit, I'm running late..."

Tsuna was about to start washing the dishes but immediately changed his mind. Grabbing his school bag, he quickly put on his shoes and rushed out.

"Yaa, I'm not used to waking up this early, Aniki. Are you sure the fish are gonna bite in the morning?"

"Haha, of course! You can always trust your Aniki for this..."

"You said they'd bite at night last time, but what did we get? Nothing."

"...This time, you can count on me."

As Tsuna stepped outside, he saw his dad pulling out a fishing bag and sorting through the gear like a pro fisherman.

"...Are you going out to fish, Dad?"

"Yeah, you want to—oh, you've got school. Never mind..."

Hearing that, Tsuna mumbled, "...What a classic unemployed activity."

"Oh, come on! I run a ramen shop, you know that!"

Looking at the guy calling his dad "big brother," Tsuna noticed a blonde man with piercings in his ears. He remembered him as the only regular customer at their ramen shop. Their eyes met before the blonde guy greeted him cheerfully.

"Oh! You must be Tsuna, right? Aniki told me a lot about you..."

"I hope he didn't talk shit about me."

"...?"

"Yo, I wouldn't! Just how low must your trust in your dad be, Tsuna!"

The blonde guy looked a bit baffled by their banter. It wasn't exactly common for a Japanese father and son to talk this way. Ichiro shook his head before introducing the blonde man.

"Anyway, this is Keishin Ukai. He's our neighbor."

"...Must be unemployed too."

"Hey, I'm not! I run that dagashiya store over there!"

Keishin grumbled, clearly dissatisfied with the remark, while pointing at a small shop just around the corner. It was a small, family-owned store that sold a variety of items like snacks, drinks, and household goods.

Classic small shop that was available only in countryside Japan.

However, Tsuna seemed unimpressed and retorted, "Still not a real job..."

"...!?"

A vein bulged on Keishin's forehead at the remark. His mouth twitched as he turned to Ichiro and asked, "Aniki, can you at least let me smack your kid once?"

"Hahaha! Come on, Keishin, he's just a kid."

"...Yeah, an annoying one."

Ignoring Keishin's grumbling, Tsuna turned to his dad and started jogging away, shouting, "I'm running late, Dad! See you later!"

"Yeah, take care!"

Ichiro shouted back as Keishin blinked in confusion. "Uh, he's running to school? Isn't that almost an hour's walk from here?"

There was only one school nearby, Karasuno High. Considering the distance, even Karasuno High was a bit far for walking.

Most students rode bikes or took the bus down the street.

"Well, he considers it his morning run," Ichiro shrugged, smiling proudly.

Keishin scratched his head. "Why? Is he an athlete or something?"

He had noticed Tsuna's well-developed body.

Since he was running, Keishin assumed he might be a runner.

But something didn't add up. A runner's physique was usually leaner, and since Keishin himself played sports, he could tell the difference.

Tsuna's build was too big for a runner, yet not bulky enough for a bodybuilder.

"Yeah, he is an athlete, sort of," Ichiro laughed. "Something happened a year ago, and he's been working hard to get in the best shape he possibly can."

"Oh? What sport does he play?"

"Ah, I remember you said you used to play volleyball, right? My kid plays the same sport!"

"...!"

Keishin's eyes widened as he nodded in understanding.

It all made sense now. Tsuna's physique wasn't built for running—it was perfect for volleyball, a sport Keishin himself had played.

As these two unemployed individuals went out to find a good spot around the river, Tsuna was on his way to school.

Running through the rice fields on the side road, he tightened his school bag, which weighed about 5 kg, as he maintained a constant pace throughout his run, keeping his breathing steady.

It had been a year.

Not only had he gotten used to using his left hand for daily activities like writing, eating, showering, and jerkin—wiping his eyes, but he had also improved all aspects of his body.

He had always relied on his right hand, and losing its use made him realize its value.

Since he couldn't use it anymore, Tsuna decided to compensate for this massive blow to his overall capability on the court by putting all his effort into increasing his other stats: strength, durability, and agility.

However, he knew his technique was lacking.

He had never bothered to learn the complicated aspects of volleyball and had just swung his right arm when needed. Now that he was allowed to use his right hand as long as he didn't spike with it, Tsuna was determined to improve his technique too.

'I wonder how everyone's doing...'

Tsuna thought quietly, his pace unintentionally getting faster and faster. He was about to finally return to the club, and he was looking forward to seeing Shimi—meeting everyone again.

As he picked up his pace, the school finally came into view.

However...

"Whooaaaa…!"

"Ohhhhhh…!"

Two students wearing the same uniform as him were running from the other side of the road, heading straight toward the school.

Tsuna blinked, observing the two "runners," and thought, 'Are they freshmen?'

They must be freshmen since he didn't know anyone else who ran in the morning besides himself.

Tsuna had come on the first day of the opening ceremony to inform his homeroom teacher that he'd be away in Tokyo for a while. Since this was only his second day back at school, that was the only plausible explanation.

His eyes glanced curiously at the short student with orange hair and the tall student with dark hair.

The orange-haired student seemed faster, which made the dark-haired student grit his teeth and grab at his opponent's uniform.

"Hey! That's cheating, stupid Kageyama!"

"We didn't set any rules, idiot Hinata!"

Their competition grew more heated as they started pulling on each other and playing dirty. Tsuna chuckled, his eyes gleaming with interest. "Too bad. I hate losing too…"

His pace, already too fast to be called jogging, began to quicken as the school gate drew near.

"I'm gonna win this, you dirty bastard!"

"Ha! You wish!"

Both Hinata and Kageyama's breathing grew ragged as they pushed themselves to their limits. Their eyes locked onto the school gate, completely ignoring the other students who stared at them in confusion.

'This is it…!'

Hinata's eyes gleamed as he noticed Kageyama trying to pull his uniform again. He slapped Kageyama's hand away, gaining the lead.

A wide smile spread across his face as he shouted, "This is my win, Kageya—"

"No, it's not."

"Huh?"

Both Kageyama and Hinata let out confused voices as a shadow flashed past them in the blink of an eye, crossing through the gate before either of them.

They both stared at Tsuna in disbelief as he turned back and chuckled. "It's mine."
