Happry Potter: The New Player

Chapter 29: The Return of Malfoy

Evan, Harry, and Hermione were the most popular figures at the Dead Man's Party, surrounded by countless ghosts.

"Incredible, I have never seen such passionate ghosts before," said Hermione.

"Yes, they are truly captivating," remarked Evan as he strolled down the corridor, "I am famished, I hope they haven't devoured all the pudding."

"Wait, we should find Ron first," suggested Harry, "I wonder if he succeeded in apologizing to Moaning Myrtle."

"It shouldn't be easy, so let's head to the girls' bathroom and check, as I have something to inquire about," stated Evan, gently caressing his belly, "the party will end soon, perhaps Colin and Ginny remembered to bring us some refreshments."

The trio ascended the stairs, but Harry abruptly halted.

"What's the matter, Harry?"

"Did you hear a voice?" Harry inquired, his expression deeply troubled.

"What voice?" Hermione inquired, fixing her gaze upon him.

"It was a cold and murderous voice, I heard it also in Lockhart's office a few days ago," Harry explained, "... so hungry... for so long..."

"Curse it, it's the basilisk!" Evan realized, his heart pounding, "The Chamber of Secrets has been opened, hasn't it, Ginny?!"

"I smell blood, it's going to kill someone," Harry whispered, eyes scanning the ceiling, "It's moving, hurry, follow me."

Soon after, Harry raced upstairs, the echoing laughter from the Halloween party in the Great Hall trailing behind them.

"Harry, where are we going?" Hermione panted, trying to keep up.

"Shhh," Harry shushed her.

He heard the voice repeatedly.

"Harry, let's hurry, where is it?" Evan urged, wiping sweat from his brow anxiously.

"What are you looking for? I haven't heard anything," Hermione, exhausted and breathless, replied, suddenly pointing down a corridor.

"Look!"

Something gleamed on the wall before them. They cautiously approached the wall, squinting in the darkness to discern what it was. Nestled between two windows and a meter off the ground, words flickered under a burning torch.

"THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS HAS BEEN OPENED. ENEMIES OF THE HEIR, BEWARE!" Evan read, feeling like he was going to faint.

"What hangs beneath the words?" Hermione asked, gripping Evan's shoulder.

"I do not know, let's move closer and find out."

Approaching cautiously, they noticed a large puddle of water on the ground that nearly caused Harry to slip.

The tree loomed closer and closer, but when they saw what it was, they recoiled, causing the water to splash.

Although Evan knew the plot beforehand, seeing Mrs. Norris hanging on the wall was still chilling. Her tail dangled from the torch bracket, her body rigid as a board, eyes wide as if in terror.

Suddenly, they heard someone coming down the corridor, startling the three children, prompting them to hastily turn around, their hearts almost leaping out of their chests.

It was Ron, emerging from a room at the end of the corridor, eyeing the trio with wide eyes and a pale face.

"Harry, what's going on?" Ron was clearly frightened, "What did you do to Filch's cat?"

"It wasn't us, we just arrived," Harry explained.

"Why are you here?" Evan asked Ron suspiciously.

"Apologizing?" Evan noticed that Ron had been in the girls' bathroom with Moaning Myrtle, so he hastily inquired, "Was there anyone else in the bathroom besides you?"

"I don't know, I was locked in with Myrtle the whole time; she was crying so much that water splashed everywhere, it took a lot to get her to listen to me," Ron wrinkled his nose, disgusted and said, "It's the dumbest thing I've done, and if Percy finds out that I sneaked into the girls' bathroom, I don't know how to explain that it was to apologize to a weeping ghost."

"Ron, reflect again, when you apologized to Myrtle, was there anything unusual, it is imperative," Evan said with a stern tone.

"Well, I think I heard a hiss, but I'm not sure," Ron said, swallowing hard, "Why do you ask? The girls' bathroom is out of order, and besides Myrtle and me, who else would be there or could there be anyone else?"

"Yes," Evan replied, nodding stiffly, but now Evan was even more concerned.

Someone opened the Chamber of Secrets when Ron was in the stall, but he didn't notice anyone, so he wasn't sure who had done it.

Although Ginny made it clear she had never seen Tom Riddle's Diary, she could have been lying. If she was under Tom Riddle's control at that time, Tom Riddle would become suspicious, which is the worst-case scenario.

But at the same time, he was fortunate that Ron was in the stall, because if he had come out, he would likely have been killed.

"Evan, Ron, can you stop going back and forth for a moment?" said Harry, "We should see if we can still rescue the cat."

"I don't think it's a good idea," said Ron, "Since we haven't harmed the cat, it's better to leave here, so as not to be blamed."

But it was too late, he had just finished speaking when he heard people coming down the hall, the party was over. They could hear the sound of hundreds of feet on the stairs, and the cheerful laughter of the people.

The students crowded in the hallway.

When the people leading the groups saw the cat hanging upside down, they all stopped, the cheerful chatter soon disappeared too.

Evan, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were alone in the middle of the hallway, the students fell silent, people tried to see the terrible scene. Evan saw Ginny and Colin standing perplexed, it seemed like they wanted to approach, but they dared not.

Someone suddenly spoke loudly, breaking the silence.

"ENEMIES OF THE HEIR, BEWARE! You are next, mudblood!"

Draco Malfoy was already at the front of the crowd, his cold eyes scanning them, and his usually pale face was flushed.

He looked at the hanging cat and then at Evan with a huge grin.
