Chapter 109: Trusting Loki
Harry and Padfoot had managed to sneak into the cavern where Thor wanted to meet, once they got inside they saw it was perfectly empty apart from Heimdall, Thor, Fandral, Volstagg and Sif. Harry greeted everyone before they all sat down, apart from Heimdall who had chosen to remain standing.
"Thor," Harry spoke. "what the hell is going on here? And could you perhaps explain your reason for why we are having a meeting here and not in the perfectly nice palace that we just left?" Harry asked, raising an eyebrow at Thor.
"It's my father," Thor sighed. "I tried speaking to him, convincing him that we needed to do something about the dark elves, that they could attack again at any time. I tried to convince him to let me take Jane and leave Asgard, to draw the elves away from here by removing the Aether, but he has refused. I fear his anger has blinded him, he wishes to enter full scale war with them, hoping to kill them all just like my grandfather was supposed to have done."
"Oh for fuck sakes." Harry rolled his eyes as he let out a deep sigh. "I have had it with crazy ass rulers, if I ever take over the world I will insist that all rulers take monthly mental evaluations."
"You will take over the world?" Fandral raised an eyebrow.
"Even Mother could not convince him to change his mind," Thor said before anyone else could reply. "she is trying but he is stubborn and is refusing to listen. What I am about to ask of you all is treason of the highest order, success could bring us exile while failure would result in our death. Malekith knew that the Aether was here, he could sense its power. If we do nothing then he could come for it again but next time he could win, he could bring waste to all of Asgard."
"Well that does sound likely," Harry agreed. "this time I think he was simply hoping to quickly get in, kill as many as possible, take the Aether and escape. Next time he might decide it's easier to just kill everybody."
"We must move Jane off world." Thor said.
"And how are we supposed to do that?" Sif asked. "The Bifrost has been shut down on the orders of the Allfather, the tesseract is locked away in a secure vault, also on the orders of the Allfather."
"There are other paths off of Asgard, ways known only to a few." Heimdall replied.
"One actually." Thor replied. It took everyone no less than two seconds to work out who Thor was referring to.
"No." Volstagg said, disbelief heavy in his voice.
"Woof!" Padfoot barked.
"What he said," Harry agreed. "please tell me that you are not referring to that son of a bitch who attacked New York."
"He is my brother." Thor reminded.
"I'm not insulting Frigga because he is still adopted," Harry reminded him. "though if he really is your brother then just direct my last comment to Odin. Now, are you seriously telling me that you want to trust something this important to Loki?"
"Yes, I do." Thor nodded.
"Hasn't he stabbed you? And tried to kill you? Like multiple times?"
"Harry is right," Sif agreed. "Loki is a traitor, not just to Asgard but also to you and your family, Thor."
"That is not to mention the amount of destruction and death he left the last time he was on my world." Harry added with Padfoot barking in agreement. "What makes you think you can trust him?"
"I don't," Thor spoke in a quiet voice after a few moments of silence. "in the past I hoped that the old Loki might still be there, I no longer have that hope in me. If he tries something then I will not hesitate."
"Then why do you think that he will help us?" Sif asked.
"A few different reasons," Thor replied. "firstly is obviously the fact that he plans to use this as a chance to escape. Secondly I will promise to help either free him or reduce his sentence, imply a reward, thirdly because the elves nearly killed Frigga. Loki, may say what he likes, but I fully believe that he still cares for her. The fact that the elves nearly killed her will stoke Loki's desire for vengeance."
"He will betray you." Fandral replied.
"He will try." Thor agreed, as if he expected nothing less.
"Undoubtedly." Harry nodded. "If he does try something then I will kill him, last time you and Steve stopped me, this time I'm only giving him one chance, if he steps over the line then I will put him down." Harry said calmly, Thor looked pained for a second before he eventually nodded.
"And if he doesn't do it then I will." Sif added.
"So what then?" Fandral asked Thor. "Your lovely mortal is guarded by a legion of Einherjar who will see you coming from a mile away." Fandral reminded him.
"It's a good thing then that I won't be the one who comes for her." Thor replied. "Sif? Harry? Which of you two are willing to do it?" He asked. Harry and Sif looked at each other for a few moments before Harry turned back to Thor.
"Get Sif to do it." Harry said.
"Why Sif?" Volstagg asked.
"When it comes to stealth and sneaking I'm as good as death itself, but I'm also good at causing trouble." Harry smirked. "Sif's capable of getting Jane out, meanwhile I will cause a major distraction."
"Just make sure nobody get's hurt." Thor said, mostly because Harry's smile worried him.
"What of the Allfather?" Sif asked.
"Am I going to have to fight your dad?" Harry asked Thor, half-serious.
"No, while we're on that topic, please never do that, ever." Thor responded, fully serious.
"It is my sworn duty to notify the King of crimes against the throne." Heimdall spoke. "Though of course it is entirely possible for me to notify him far later than I should."
"Assuming that you can get Loki's help and free this mortal, what good would it do?" Volstagg asked. "We would all be dead the minute we stepped one foot outside the palace."
"That my friend is why we won't be leaving by foot." Thor responded. "There is a dark elf ship left behind from the attack, it is still in working condition, we can use that to get out of Asgard."
"It sounds like you have an actual plan instead of just making this up on the spot," Harry said approvingly. "let's hear the rest of it." Harry and the others spent the next hour or so discussing their plans for tomorrow, a few changes were made to Thor's original plan by the end of it but everyone was satisfied by the end of the night.
...
Sif was constantly looking around, in case she would stumble upon a group of Einherjar. If they were going to go through with Thor's plan then the last thing they needed was unnecessary, time wasting fights. Sif enjoyed them as much as the next Asgardian warrior but this was not the time for it.
"Where is Harry?" Jane asked as she followed Sif, who had taken out two guards before taking Jane out of the room and telling her a few basic details about their plan.
"Creating a distraction." Sif answered.
"What is he doing for a distraction?" Jane asked.
"I'm not sure," Sif admitted with a shrug of her shoulders. "I'm sure it is nothing to worry about." She said, only for her and Jane to suddenly stop in their tracks upon hearing a large boom followed by the sound of an alarm. "I could be wrong." Sif said quietly before she continued walking with Jane who hurried after her.
"Hey." Harry said as he appeared alongside them a minute later, Padfoot with him.
"Do I want to know what you did for your distraction?" Sif asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Nobody died." Was Harry's response.
"Fair enough." Sif said before putting her focus back on the task at hand. The group stopped when they saw Loki standing with Thor.
"Is that…" Jane temporarily lost her speech upon seeing Loki, the man responsible for the attack on Earth.
"I'm Loki," Loki said upon seeing Jane. "you may have heard of…" Loki found himself cut off by a strong slap from Jane.
"That was for New York." She glared at him.
"I like this one." Loki grinned, only to stop when Harry stopped in front of him.
"Long time no see Loki," Harry said calmly. "I'm sure Thor has already threatened you but I just want to let you know that this time nobody would stop me from killing you. Give me a reason, even a half-good one and I will cover the walls with your blood."
"Right… well… it's good to see you too." Loki responded after a short pause. Any further response was cut off by the sound of Einherjar coming down the hallway.
"Padfoot," Harry said, "keep them busy, don't kill them. We'll meet you later." Harry said as he and the others began walking away.
"Woof." Padfoot nodded before he shifted into his battle mode and roared at the approaching Einherjar.
