Harry Potter The Unseen Heroine

Chapter 48: A Trip to the Library

"I found them in a room full of smoke Professor. If I hadn't been there, the cauldron would have exploded."

"Is that all Miss Clearwater?"

"Yes Professor."

I sat between Anthony and Lisa at Professor Flitwick's desk. After we'd thrown stuff in the cauldron began producing much more steam, and almost exploded. I was both terrified and thankful when Penelope had opened the door noticing the steam.

The Prefect and Head of House turned there attention to us. The girl looked annoyed, but relieved, while our head of house just sighed and smirked.

"I guess we have are first incident of the year. I have to admit I wasn't expecting it to be you three." Penelope told us sternly.

"Quite the contrary, Mr. Goldstein is the least bit surprising." Flitwick told her shaking his head.

"Really?" Penelope asked.

"His parent's were constantly in Detention." He said giving Anthony a knowing look.

"I'm well aware." Anthony replied rubbing the back of his head.

As for this one." He then turned to me. "Her father was also constantly causing mischief. Though for far different reasons...The stress he caused Professor McGonagall." He said smirking.

"As for Miss Turpin." He said turning to Lisa. " I have no previous information to rely on, so her behavior is the most surprising. Still..."

"Sir?" Penelope asked.

"Sorry, just reminiscing." Flitwick shook his head and appeared far more serious. "I'll take it from here Miss Clearwater." He told her. She nodded and left. Leaving just us and our Head of House.

"What where you three doing?" He asked us seriously.

"It was my fault Professor." Anthony said instantly. "I wanted to test the effect's of Chimaera tears with a Bezoar egg."

"How did you obtain those ingredients?" He asked.

"I got a seventh year to get me the Bezoar Egg, while paying for the Chimaera tears." He answered.

Professor Flitwick nodded then turned to Lisa.

"Why where you involved?" He asked her.

"Um..."

"Miss Turpin."

"He helped me with some homework. I felt like I owed him. But I volunteered, he did not ask me." She said the last part firmly.

Professor Flitwick nodded then turned to me.

"Miss Potter?" He asked.

I thought for a moment. I wasn't the mastermind like Anthony, nor did I have a reason for helping like Lisa. I really had no reason for helping, other than.

"I was curious Professor." I answered. He sighed and shook his head.

"This is the Twenty Third year in a row a group of rambunctious first years have tried to self experiment during there first week. " He began then turned to Anthony. "Including you're parents." Anthony went a little red.

"I will give you the same speech I always give. I know you want to learn, I know you're curious. But you have just barely started to learn magic. You are not prepared to combine ingredients just to see what happens. Now I'm not going to take any points as to not punish the house."

We all looked at each other relived.

"However." We all turned our attention back to Professor Flitwick nervously. "You will each serve Detention. And though I don't want to, if there are any more dangerous activities, point's will be subtracted, more Detention served, and letters sent home. Am I understood?"

"Yes Professor." We all replied.

"Good, I'll send you letters at breakfast tomorrow for the time of your detentions. Now I would suggest enjoying the rest of this weekend doing something less..."

"Stupid?" Lisa asked.

"Yes."

We all filed out of Flitwick's office. While upset about detention, I knew it could have been a whole lot worse.

"No more experiments?" Lisa asked Anthony crossing her arms.

"No more experiments." Anthony replied.

"Promise?" She asked him.

"Yes, I promise."

Lisa took a deep breath. Then nodded.

"Good, what do you guy's want to do now?"

"Well, I'm heading to the library to help Ron and Harry with Binn's assignment." I said.

"Good luck. That was a chore to get through, and I usually love homework assignment."

"You don't have to remind me." I replied before turning back to the pair. "By the way, could you two keep this from Harry. Don't want him having to worry about me?"

"I don't think any of us are going to spread our...failed experiment." Lisa said firmly. I nodded.

"I'll see you two tonight." I told the pair, then turned and headed down the hall.

I made my way to the library and found Ron and Harry. I began helping the pair with Binn's assignment. Finally they finished and I headed back to the common room. After all that had happened the past two days I felt exhausted, and decided to call it an early night. As my head hit the pillow I made a promise to myself.

Next weekend I was actually going to relax.
