Healing to Kill

Chapter 9 – Heal many more lives

Returning to the Novice Village.

The surroundings were brightly lit.

"Brother Mortal Dust, I'll go turn in the quest first. I'll come find you once I'm done."

Qing Ying said in the team voice chat, while also sending a friend request to Jiang Chen.

"Alright, let's stay in touch."

Jiang Chen accepted the friend request.

Qing Ying turned around with a happy face and disappeared from sight.

Before long, Jiang Chen noticed the team buff disappearing.

When teammates move a certain distance away, they leave the team.

"I need to max out intimacy soon!"

Muttering to himself, Jiang Chen opened the game's marketplace.

In towns and villages, players can directly access the marketplace.

There are two listing modes in the marketplace: "Buyout Mode" and "Auction Mode."

For successful transactions, the former charges a 1% fee, while the latter charges a 2% fee.

The marketplace allows transactions using either in-game gold or real-world currency.

Currently, most of the equipment for sale in the marketplace were basic whiteboard items, with a few pieces of Bronze equipment.

Jiang Chen checked the transaction records for level 3 whiteboard equipment.

In the past half hour, the prices ranged from 2 gold 90 silver to 3 gold 40 silver, with 1 gold equaling 100 silver.

Some players opted for real-world currency transactions, with prices ranging from 220 to 255 yuan.

It was clear that the current exchange rate was about 1 gold = 75 yuan.

This rate was quite low.

Soon, as the demand for gold increases, the price will spike to a high ratio of 1:120.

Then, it will slightly drop and stabilize at around 1:100, meaning 1 gold = 100 yuan.

Jiang Chen chose the buyout mode and listed three whiteboard items on the marketplace, each priced at 3 gold.

This was almost the lowest price.

He sold them cheaply because he needed gold to unseal a skill book and didn't want to waste time.

Within seconds, Jiang Chen received game notifications:

[Your listed "Exquisite Longsword (Whiteboard)" has been sold, earning you 2 gold 97 silver.]

[Your listed "Exquisite Longbow (Whiteboard)" has been sold, earning you 2 gold 97 silver.]

[Your listed "Peachwood Staff (Whiteboard)" has been sold, earning you 2 gold 97 silver.]

A total of 8 gold 91 silver.

"That's enough gold to unseal the skill book. I can auction this dagger and let the highest bidder win!"

Jiang Chen listed the Sharp Dagger (Silver) for auction.

Starting bid: 100 gold.

Auction duration: 4 hours.

Then, he exited the marketplace.

***

Crossing the Novice Village square, Jiang Chen arrived at a white domed building with two floors.

This was the Village Manor, the iconic building in the Novice Village.

The village chief, guard captain, church clergy, and other NPCs were inside.

Likewise, the class trainers Jiang Chen needed to find were also there.

Entering the manor, he walked to the room of the novice Priest trainer.

The door bore a class symbol:

A cross-shaped Judicator's sword, but the guard was not a sword hilt, but a pair of large, outstretched wings.

The cross sword symbolized the Judicator path for Priests.

The winged emblem represented the ultimate skill of another Priest path: Resurrection!

"Resurrection, huh..."

Jiang Chen's eyes revealed a hint of longing.

He walked into the room.

Inside, everything was white—the marble floor, the plaster ceiling, the tables and chairs—all seemed to emit a holy glow.

Soft and bright.

However, when Jiang Chen saw the person sitting at the white long table, the scene took a sharp turn!

It was a muscular man in a tight vest!

He was flexing his arm, admiring his bulging biceps, with chest muscles so broad they could hold a cup.

Wow, this Priest trainer is wild!

Jiang Chen was stunned; it was his first time seeing the novice Priest trainer.

"Ahem..."

Jiang Chen interrupted the muscle man who was admiring himself.

"Adventurer, welcome to my Healing Sanctuary. I am the novice Priest trainer, Roth."

Muscle man Roth flashed a bright white smile and said, "How can I help you?"

"Hello, Trainer Roth. I want to unseal a skill book."

Jiang Chen got straight to the point, handing over the "Sealed Skill Book (Two-Star)."

"A two-star skill book!"

Roth's eyes lit up.

He brought the book to his nose and sniffed it with a blissful expression, saying, "Ah, it has a wonderful scent."

This trainer is so damn gay!

Jiang Chen felt numb.

Roth continued, "Adventurer, you know, unsealing a skill book consumes my energy."

Consumes energy?

Isn't that just asking for money?

Jiang Chen pursed his lips and joked, "I didn't know that."

This left Roth dumbfounded.

This kid doesn't play by the rules?

"Ahem..."

Roth coughed to cover his embarrassment.

Then he said seriously, "The energy consumption requires nutritional replenishment. Unsealing a two-star skill book costs 5 gold for nutrition."

Damn nutrition fee!

"Here!"

Jiang Chen's mouth twitched as he resisted the urge to complain and paid 5 gold.

After receiving the gold, Roth waved his hand over the skill book, and it glowed faintly.

"Done."

Roth smiled slightly and handed the skill book back to Jiang Chen.

Here it comes!

Jiang Chen eagerly looked at the skill book.

[Healing Ray (Two-Star): Emits a healing ray, restoring Health Points equal to 100% of Spell Power per second to targets within 20 meters, up to 3 targets, for 5 seconds. Cooldown: 20 seconds. Mana Cost: 100. Priest Skill.]

Each player starts with four skill slots.

This means they can learn up to four skills.

At certain levels, players can spend gold to increase skill slots or forget learned skills.

In the early stages, skill choices need to be considered carefully; not every skill should be learned.

"Healing Ray is a must-learn god-tier skill for early-stage Priests!"

Without hesitation, Jiang Chen learned the skill and applied his talent, Yin-Yang Reversal, to it.

[Healing Ray (Two-Star) (Reversed): Emits a healing ray, reducing Health Points equal to 150% of Spell Power per second to targets within 20 meters, up to 3 targets, for 5 seconds. Cooldown: 20 seconds. Mana Cost: 100.]

"I have 130 Spell Power now, so I can reduce 195 Health Points per second. Over 5 seconds, that's 975 Health Points!

Plus, with the blessing buff, the cooldown is reduced to 10 seconds. This is...

So OP! I love it!"

Jiang Chen's face was full of smiles; he felt like he was about to soar.

"A healer's smile is always the warmest. May you heal many more lives!"

Roth, seemingly moved by Jiang Chen's smile, couldn't help but say something poetic.

"Indeed!"

Jiang Chen nodded happily.

He would indeed "heal" many more lives!
